초록

이 글은 1955년 북베트남 방문과 문화교류의 결과물인 변희근의 기행문 「영웅의 나라, 월남」과 조학래의 시집 『한 줌의 흙』이라는 텍스트를 검토하고 있다. 이들 저작은 북베트남을 방문하여 창작한 우호친선의 결과물로서 탈식민 직후 베트남의 고양된 사회 분위기를 잘 담고 있기 때문이다. 이 글에서는 기행문과 시집에 담긴 베트남 인식의 특성과 의의에 주목했다. 두 텍스트는 1955년 외교관계를 공식화하고 건국 10주년을 맞이한 것을 계기로 북한-북베트남이 우호친선의 대의를 부각시키며 문화적 교류의 물꼬를 트는 가운데 베트남 현실 인식에 따른 구체적인 윤곽을 살필 수 있었다.
1950년대 북한은 중소를 포함하여 동유럽과 몽고와 문화교류에 나서면서도 베트남과는 매우 각별한 외교 관계를 유지해 나갔다. 프랑스로부터 독립을 쟁취했으나 외세에 의해 다시 남북으로 나뉜 베트남의 현실은 북한에게 동서 냉전구도와 열전의 전선이자 비동맹외교의 바로미터였다. ‘조국통일’의 군사적 결행을 관철시키지 못한 채 휴전체제로 돌입하게 된 북한의 현실에서 베트남의 과거-현재-미래는 식민의 기억을 환기하며 현재의 냉전체제를 통찰하며 미래의 통일과업을 진단할 수 있는 또 다른 원천이었다. 1965년 반둥회의로 대표되는 북한의 비동맹외교 활동이 동남아시아와 중동, 아프리카 권역에 걸쳐 있으나 그 시발점은 국교 수립에 따른 1955년 베트남과의 교류였다.
북베트남을 방문한 인민대표단과 인민군예술단의 문화교류는 앞서 살펴본 것처럼 양국이 각각 경험해온 식민과 탈식민의 상황의 유사성에 근거한 현실에서 역사적 경험의 공감과 공분을 거쳐 역사적 경험의 공유로 진전되는 것을 뜻했다. 변희근의 기행문에서 베트남을 ‘영웅의 나라’로 칭송하고 방문시초에서 ‘형제국가’임을 천명하는 것이 바로 구체적인 증거이다.

영어초록

This study reviewed the context in the travel essay titled 'Hero's country, Vietnam' which is written by Heeguen Byeon(변희근) and Hakrae Cho(조학래)’s the poetry book called 'Poems visiting to Vietnam, a handful of earth'. Those two books are the result of cultural exchange and North Vietnam visit in 1955. Also they are the result of friendship and created by visiting North Vietnam, thus it described well the heightened atmosphere of Vietnam society immediately after decolonizing. This study concentrated on the characteristic awareness and significance of Vietnam in these two books. Two books showed that Vietnam initiated cultural exchange with highlighted cause of friendship between North Korea and North Vietnam by giving an opportunity of 10th anniversary of the country and officially announced diplomatic relations in 1955. Therefore, the detailed outline by awareness of reality in Vietnam could be reviewed.
North Korea in 1950's maintained special relationship with Vietnam as well as kept cultural exchange with Eastern Europe, Mongolia, China and Russia. Although Vietnam achieved the independence from France, they were divided into North and South by foreign power. So their reality was the Cold War between East and West, Hot-War front and also it was barometer of nonalignment diplomacy for North Korea. North Korea had to do cease-fire agreement by not accomplishing reunification with military action. Therefore, the past, present and future of Vietnam reminded memory of colonial period, gave an insight of the Cold War and provided the source which could examine the reunification task in the future for North Korea. Bandung Conference in 1965 which represented as nonalignment diplomacy were for all over Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa but the beginning was the exchange with Vietnam. In that context, the cultural exchange act by diplomatic relations with North Vietnam in 1955 was one of exchange with nonaligned nations.
Visiting to North Vietnam and the cultural exchange of art company of North Korea meant that it was possible to be in condition to share the historical experience through sympathy and indignation by seeing that there were similar situation like colony and decolonizing as we have discussed earlier. This was proved in Heeguen Byeon's travel essay that complimented Vietnam is 'Hero's country' and 'Brother country' at the beginning of visit.
