南陽州 興國寺 大雄寶殿 包壁畵 保存處理方法에 관한 試論 (Study of Conservation Method about wall paintings of DawongBoJun of Heungguksa Temple)

초록

대웅보전의 포벽화에 대해서는 현재 건물 뒤편 상단의 추녀에 걸려 있는 단청 기원문을 토대로 약간의 연대를 추정할 수 있다. 이 기문들을 살펴보면, 光武年間에 또 한 차례의 단청불사가 있었다는 기록이 걸려져 있다. 특히, 光武년 19C 후반의 단청불사에서는 상궁인 신씨가 왕과 왕비, 세자 및 대왕대비의 안녕을 기원하며 불사하다는 내용이 있어 주목 된다.
한편, 사찰의 포벽화에 그려지는 도상들은 불교에 관련 된 불경 내용을 이해하기 쉽게 그림으로 표현 되었을 뿐만 아니라 그 건물의 장식적인 의미를 갖고 있기에 매우 정성스럽게 그려져 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 건물의 자연적인 손상뿐만 아니라 보수를 할 경우에도 건물의 보수비는 책정되어 있으나 포벽화에 대한 예산이 책정되어 있지 않아 아름답고 정성드려 그려진 포벽화들이 보수라는 명분으로 존재감 없이 사라져 왔다.
포벽에 대한 보존처리는 건물을 보수하기 위하여 건축물을 해체 및 복원하게 되는 과정에서 벽화가 손상되지 않도록 해체한 후 다시 복원하는 과정이다. 따라서 벽화의 보존처리는 벽화를 해체하거나 원위치 복원 시 벽화에 가해질 수 있는 물리적인 손상으로부터 보호하고, 이미 손상되었거나 물리적으로 약화된 벽화를 보존처리 함으로써 벽화의 손상이 계속해서 진행되는 것을 막기 위함이다. 최근에는 건물의 보수 등이 이루어질 경우 전문가가 설계 당시에 해당 건물의 포벽화의 가치를 평가하여 학술보고서에 과학적 데이터를 기록하거나 모사도를 그려 놓거나 보존처리하여 보존하기 시작하였다. 지금까지의 보존처리 공사는 문화재보호법 제 18조의 규정에 의거하여 문화재청에 문화재 수리업체(보존과학업) 등록을 필한 업체에서 시행하는 것을 규정하고 있으나, 방법과 사용 제품에 대한 규준은 제안되지 않기 때문에 현장 보존처리자의 경험에 의존하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 흥국사의 대웅보전을 대상으로 물리적, 화학적, 생물학적 피해를 받는 벽화보존을 위하여 기존의 벽화 보존처리 방법과 사용 약품 및 보존처리 방법을 정리하여 효과적인 방법을 제안하는 의미가 매우 크다고 본다.

영어초록

With regard to the wall paintings of DawongBoJun, its age can be slightly estimated based on the Danchong optative sentence on the eaves behind the current building.
When the optative sentence is examined, there is a record there that in the late 18th century in the Gwangmu year, there had been another Buddhist service of Danchong.
Particularly, in the Buddhist service of Danchong of the Gwangmu year in the late 19th ∼20thcentury, the contents of Buddhist service that the court lady Miss Shin wished good health for the king and queen, crown prince, and the grandmother of the king are noteworthy.
Meanwhile, the statues painted on wall paintings of the Buddhist temple are not only represented with pictures so that the contents of Buddhist scriptures related to Buddhism can be understood easily but also have the decorative meaning of the building, so they are painted very elaborately. Nevertheless, due not only to the natural damage of the building but also to the justification of repair works, those beautiful and elaborately painted wall paintings have been disappearing because the budgets for the wall paintings were not appropriated although the costs of repairing the building were budgeted.
The conservation of the walls is the process in which the buildings are dismantled and restored so that the wall paintings are not damaged in the course of dismantling and restoring the structures in order to repair the building. Accordingly, the conservation of the wall paintings is to protect the wall painting from physical damage that can be inflicted on the wall paintings when dismantling and restoring the wall paintings and to prevent the wall paintingsthat have already been damaged or physically weakened from being continuously damaged.
Recently, when the building is repaired, the experts evaluate the value of wall paintings at the time of planning the applicable building and record the scientific data on academic journals or draw or retain the copy and in this way the conservation began to be conducted. The Cultural Properties Protection Law, Article 18, stipulates that the conservation work should be conducted by the companywhich is registered as the cultural properties repair company in the Cultural Heritage Administration, but the conservation works up to nowhave been dependent upon the experiences of the field conservation managers since there are no regulations regarding the methods and the use of products in the conservation work process.So this thesis is meaningful in that it organized the existing conservation methods and the use of chemicals and presented the effective methods to conserve the wall paintings of DawongBoJun of Heungguksa Temple that have suffered physical, chemical, and biological damages.
