모더니즘-해체주의 척도의 디자인 양식기술 가능성 (The Possibility of Design Style Description by the Modernism-De-constructivism Scale)

초록

본고에서는 디자인 양식 체계의 한 척도로 해체주의 차원(척도)을 제안했다. 그러기 위한 전 단계로 의미표현 모형에 기초한 양식기술연구, 지각이론에 기초한 거시적 양식기술 연구, 정보미학에 기초한 영상 매트릭스의 순으로 관련 연구들을 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 필자가 개발한 지각이론에 기초한 미시적 양식기술체계를 검토하며 이 체계 속에 있는 윤곽과 관련된 양식척도들이 해체주의 양식과 잘 들어맞는다는 사실을 파악했다.
해체주의 양식은 윤곽의 해체를 주요한 특징의 하나로 삼고 있다. 이는 필자의 양식기술체계의 토대가 되는 지각이론이 윤곽을 핵심적인 시각 정보로 간주하고 있다는 점과 일치한다. 이런 맥락에서 해체주의가 양식전반의 중요한 특징을 다루고 있다는 가능성을 찾을 수 있었다. 시각의 중요한 속성을 건드리고 있기 때문이다.
이런 추론을 토대로 하되 시각적 양식에만 국한했을 때, 모더니즘과 해체주의가 길항적인 성격을 갖고 있으며 단일한 양식차원의 양극단이 될 수 있다는 점을 이론적으로 탐색했다. 그 다음 디자인 양식에서 해체주의 차원의 타당성, 신뢰성을 이론적으로 탐색하기 위해 몇 기업의 심볼마크 디자인을 해체주의 차원 위에 위치시켜 보았다. 경험적 검증을 거친 것은 아니지만 해체주의 차원 위에 손쉽고 고르게 분포되었으며 그 양상이 해체주의 혹은 포스트 모던 양식과 모더니즘 양식에 대한 미술학적 상식과 들어맞는 것으로 보였다.
마지막으로 모던-해체주의 차원이 디자인 양식사를 기술할 수 있는 토대가 될 수 있으며 미술사나 산업사와 디자인사를 구별시켜주는 양식변화의 하나의 동인일 수 있다는 가능성을 논의했다. 이와 더불어 국가 및 시대별 양식 분석, 디자인 교육에 어떤 유용성을 갖는지도 살펴보았다.

영어초록

As one of the description systems of style for describing the style of design, the scale of deconstructionism has been proposed. As the phase prior to that, related studies were analyzed in the order of the research of style technology based on the meaning-expressive model, macroscopic research of style technology based on the theory of perception and image matrix based on the information aesthetics. Finally, the style description system based on the theory of perception developed by Sang-Hyun Ji was reviewed and identified that the style scales related to the outline in the system matches the deconstructionism style.
The deconstructionism style takes the deconstruction of outline as one of the major characteristics. This corresponds with the point that the theory of perception, which becomes the foundation of the style technology of Sang-Hyun Ji, considers the outline as the core visual information. In such context, the possibility that the deconstructionism is dealing with the important characteristics of overall style could be found. That’s because it handles the important properties of vision.
Based on such inferences, the point that modernism and deconstructionism have the antagonistic nature and they can be the two extremes of the continuum of single stylistic feature was theoretically investigated. After that, the designs of some corporate symbol marks have been placed over the scale of deconstructionism in order to investigate the feasibility and reliability of the level of deconstructionism in the design style. Even though they did not go through the empirical verification, they were easily and evenly distributed over the level of deconstructionism and their patterns seemed to match the common knowledge of art on the patterns of deconstructionism or post-modernism and modernism.
Finally, the possibility that the level of modern-deconstruction can become the foundation that makes it possible to describe the design history and be one of the drivers of pattern change which distinguishes art history, industry history or design history was discussed. In addition, the analysis of style by nation and period along with usefulness influencing the design education were investigated.
