근대 초기 도시가족과 兒童 인식의 패러다임 - 光武 7년 漢城府 戶籍을 중심으로 - (A Study on Urban Family and Paradigm of Child Awareness in Early Modern Times - With focus on the Family Register at the Hanseong-bu in the 7th year(1903) of the Kwang-mu Era -)

초록

본고는 광무 7년 한성부 호적에 기재되어 있는 15세 이하의 호주 자녀를 대상으로 하여 근대 초기 도시가족 내에서 나타난 아동 인식의 내용과 특징을 살펴보았다. 광무 7년 한성부 호적의 전체 아동은 이전 시기 그리고 동시기 다른지역과 비교해서 기재가 충실히 나타나고 있었다. 이에 한성부 호적에 기재된 호주 아동이 가족 내에서 어떠한 위치와 성격으로 나타나고 있었는지를 파악하기 위해서, 아동을 동거친속 기재순위에 따라서 유형화하였으며, 아동기재순위의 유형 기준은 아동의 성별 그리고 동거친족과의 선후 관계 속에서 파악하였다.
아동기재순위에 따른 전체 유형에서 가족 내 아동의 위치는 남성과 친족 중심의 관계 속에서 파악되는 경향이 높게 나타나고 있었다. 그러나 일부 유형 속의 아동은 전자의 관점에서 벗어나 다르게 인식되는 모습을 보였다.
이에 아동기재순위에 따른 아동인식의 차이점을 호주의 계층문제와 관련하여 구체적으로 파악하기 위해서, 호적에 기재된 호주의 다양한 정보 (연령, 직업, 가택, 가족구성 등)를 활용하여 아동기재순위 유형과 연결지어 살펴보았다.
그 결과 아동을 남성과 친족 중심의 관점에서 이해하고 있었던 호주는 당시에 상위의 사회적 위치와 경제적 능력을 갖춘 50대 이상으로, 대가족 형태의 확대가족을 이룬 기득권 계층에서 집중적으로 나타났으며, 아동을 전자의 관점에서 벗어나 다르게 이해하고 있었던 호주는 전자의 호주에 비해서 상대적으로 낮은 사회적 위치와 경제적 능력을 갖춘 성내위주의 30~40대 일반 계층으로, 부모+미혼자녀 중심의 핵가족을 이루고 있었다.

영어초록

This study looked into the contents and characteristic of child awareness manifested within the urban family in the early modern times targeting the children under 15 of a family head who were entered in the family register at the Hanseong‑bu in the 7th year of the Kwang‑mu era.
The entry of the whole children in the family register at the Hanseong‑bu in the 7th year of the Kwang‑mu Era was found to be faithfully done in comparison with other regions in the previous & same period. Hereupon, this study, in a bid to grasp in what position and character a family head's children, who were entered in the Hanseong‑bu family register, were expressed within their family, typed children according to the entry ranking of cohabiting relatives, and grasped the typology standard of children entry ranking based on children's gender, and in order relations with cohabiting relatives.
As a result, it was found that the position of children in a family was represented as high from men & relatives‑centered traditional viewpoints in overall topology consequent on children entry ranking.
However, some children in partial topology were perceived as different, away from the traditional viewpoints mentioned in the former. Accordingly, in an effort to concretely grasp the difference in child awareness consequent on child entry ranking in relation to a family head's issue of social stratum, this study looked into it by establishing a link between the difference and child entry ranking topology through the utilization of various pieces of information(age,occupation, house, and family formation, etc.) of a family head entered in the family register.
As a result, the heads of a family, who understood children from men & relatives‑centered traditional viewpoints, were found to the people in their 50s, and to be equipped with the upper social standing and economic ability at that time, emerging intensively from the vested rights stratum who achieved an extended family in the form of big family, whereas the head of a family, who understood a child from a different perspective by escaping from a traditional viewpoint, was found to be the general stratum in their 30~40s having the social standing and economic ability enough to afford to live within the city, forming a parents & unmarried children‑centered nuclear family.
