    This research aims to examine how Sarim politics of 17th century was adapted and changed by exploring Jeongon's recognition of reality and his idea of the contemporary political situation. Jeongon grew up under the influence of the Gyeongsang U-do(Right wing) Sarim led by Jeong Yeo-chang and Cho Shik. He studied under Jeong In-hong who was a leading member of Nammyeong school and actively involved in political activities of the school. With King Gwanghae's assession to the throne, he joined in the ruling north-oriented political party but parted from it as the Gabin Bongsaso incident occurred. After the dethroning of King Gwanghae by King Injo, he was given a place in the government and shared the same political ideology with the Namin. But he had gradually been alienated as he had disagreement with the meritorious retainers in many political issues.
    Jeongon's method of practical cultivation was to internalize the Gyeong ideology. He set up Gyeong as the basic belief for his everyday life. And it was also the means to identify the 'justification and principle' which was the two basic beliefs the Sarim politics based on. He also emphasized the restoration of justice as a means to overcome political conflict among the cliques. This explains the reason why he made his utmost effort to establish Samgang Oryun ethics, instead of expanding his political power by executing the national law strictly in the cases of Gabin Bongsaso and Inseonggun. He refused to accept peace treaty with the Chinese during Byeongja Horan(Chinese Invasions in the 17th century), trying to maintain political ties with Myeong Dynasty. In addition, he did not go along with the financial security policies for the meritorious retainers, as he cared for ordinary people.
    In conclusion, Jeongon attempted to implement the 'justification and principle' by internalizing Gyeong ideology and as one of high royal officers he made a big contribution to maintain the Sarim politics through the establishment of the Samggan Oryun, the maintenance of cordial relationship with Myeong Dynasty, and the taxation policy favorable to common people.
