鄭玄 『『毛詩鄭箋』의 금·고문 종합과 그 정치적 의미 (Zheng Xuan’s Synthesis of New-Text and Old-Text Scholarships in the Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian and Its Political Implications)

초록

이 논문의 목적은 사회·정치적 프리즘을 통해 정현이 금·고문 종합을 지향한 이유와 정현 『모시정전』의 금·고문 종합 양태, 그리고 정현 『모시정전』의 중심사상을 탐구하는 것이다. 사실 기존 정현 연구에서 그의 경학 전체의 금·고문 종합을 다룬 논문은 있지만, 정현의 『모시정전』을 대상으로 그의 금·고문 종합을 탐색한 논문은 없었다. 그리고 정현의 『모시정전』을 그 당시의 사회·정치적 맥락 속에서 그의 『모시』 해석의 특징이나 양상 및 중심사상을 연구한 글은 아직 없었다. 이는 금문 삼가시(三家詩)가 모두 없어지고 정현의 『모시정전』만 남은 상태에서 그것이 지닌 가치에 비해 연구가 턱없이 부족한 것이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 후속연구를 가능케 할 기초가 될 수 있을 것인데, 본 연구 결과는 다음 세 가지로 정리할 수 있다.
첫째는 정현의 금·고문 종합에 관한 이유와 배경이다. 정현은 우선 학문적 관점에서 그 당시 경학이 가법과 사법을 고수함으로 발생한 학문적 동맥경화증과 금문 내의 학파적 논쟁 및 금·고문 양자가 대립하는 과정에서 발생한 경전 주석의 번쇄화를 해소하여 학자들이 쉽게 경전을 읽고 이해할 수 있게 할 필요가 있었다. 그리고 그와 동시에 서한 이래로 동한 정국에도 해결되지 못한 통치계급의 토지침탈로 야기된 계급대립을 해소해야 하는 과제와 동한대의 연이은 어린 황제의 등극으로 발생된 외척과 환관의 정권농단을 해결하여 황제를 중심으로 하는 일원화된 통치체계를 구축하는데 금·고문 양자가 모두 필요했다. 고문경학의 ‘명물훈고’는 경전의 정확한 뜻을 이해하는데 유용했고, 금문경학의 ‘미언대의 찾기’는 현실 정치의 필요를 충족시키는데 유용했기 때문이다.
둘째는 정현이 금·고문의 해경방법을 『모시』를 주석하는 과정에서 적용한 양태를 살펴본 것이다. 분명 정현은 『모시』를 주석하는 과정에서 모형처럼 고문경학의 ‘명물훈고’의 장점을 십분 활용하고 있었다. 자신의 「모시보(毛詩譜)」에서는 물론이고 자하의 「모시서」에 주석을 달거나 개별 시의 「모시전」 혹은 개별 시 그 자체에 주석을 달 때도 그 점이 두드러지게 발휘되고 있었기 때문이다. 그러나 정현은 단지 고문경학의 명물훈고 방식만 고집하지 않고 『모시』를 해석하는 과정을 통해 금문경학의 ‘미언대의 찾기’라는 해경방법도 동시에 사용하고 있었다. 그럼으로써 정현 당시에 문제가 되고 있던 각종 시대문제를 푸는 열쇠로 사용하고 있었다. 이것은 고문경학을 중심에 두면서도 금문경학의 장점을 수용함으로써 다변화하는 현실에 능동적으로 대처하고자 한 정현 경학만의 한 특징이라 할 수 있는 것이다.
셋째는 정현 『모시정전』의 중심사상을 살펴본 것이다. 정현이 『모시』를 주석하는 작업을 통해 금·고문의 장점을 활용하여 달성하고자 한 목적은 황제절대권을 구축하여 황제를 중심으로 하는 일원화된 통치질서를 확립하는 것이었다. 그래야 정현 당시의 환관과 외척 및 지방호족세력들과 군벌들에 의해 야기된 각종 정권농단과 그 폐해들을 제거하고 혼란된 동한 말의 정국을 안정시킬 수 있을 것이기 때문이다. 정현이 왕조 창건자의 태생을 신비화시켜 존군론을 펼치는 이유가 여기에 있다. 그리고 정현은 이에서 그치지 않고 군권신수설의 근거가 군주의 ‘덕’에 있음을 강조함으로써 군주의 덕에 기반한 덕치를 행할 때만 왕조도, 민생도 지켜질 수 있다고 주장했다.
정현이 보기에 만약 황제가 이렇게만 한다면 누가 보더라도 위망의 조짐을 드러내고 있는 동한 말의 위태한 정국도 정상화될 수 있을 것이었다. 정치는 결국 ‘윗사람이 이끄는 바에 달려 있다’고 정현은 믿었기 때문이다. 그러므로 윗사람이 제정신을 차리고 현신을 발탁하여 그와 함께 덕치를 실행하기만 한다면 경국지경의 국가의 운명도 유가의 이상처럼 대동·태평시대로 전이될 수 있다고 생각한 것이다. 따라서 정현의 『모시정전』은 그의 정론을 피력한 강력한 정치적 특성을 갖춘 텍스트라 평가할 수 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine the reasons why Zheng Xuan pursued the synthesis of New-Text and Old-Text Scholarships through a social and political prism, the aspects of the synthesis of New-Text and Old-Text Scholarships in Zheng Xuan's Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian, and The purpose is to explore the central ideas of Zheng Xuan's Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian. In fact, there is a paper on his synthesis of New-Text and Old-Text Scholarhips throughout Jing-Xue in the existing Zheng Xuan's study, but no paper has explored his synthesis of New-Text and Old-Text Scholarhips in Zheng Xuan's Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian. In addition, there has not yet been an article on Zheng Xuan's Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian to study the characteristics, aspects, and central ideas of his Mao-Shi interpretation in the social and political context of the time. This can be said to be a serious lack of research compared to its value, as all of New-Text Scholarship's San-Jia-Shi have disappeared and only Zheng Xuan's Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian remains. Therefore, this study could be the basis for enabling follow-up studies, and the results of this study can be summarized into the following three.
The first is the reason and background for Zheng Xuan's synths of New-Text and Old-Text Scholarships. From an academic point of view, Zheng Xuan first needed to resolve the academic arteriosclerosis caused by Jing-Xue's adherence to Jia-Fa and Shi-Fa at that time, the academic debate within the New-Text Scholarship, and the growing number of scriptures annotations that occurred during the conflict between the New-Text and Old-Text Scholarship so that scholars could easily read and understand the scriptures. At the same time, the task of resolving the class conflict caused by the land invasion of the ruling class, which had not been resolved even in the Dong-Han political period since Xi-Han, and the problem of Wai-Qi and eunuchs arising from the successive ascension of young emperors during the Dong-Han era Both the New-Text and Old-Text Scholarship were needed to resolve the regime's corruption and establish a unified ruling system centered on the emperor. Old-Text Scholarship's 'Ming-Wu-Xun-Gu(名物訓詁)' was useful in understanding the exact meaning of the scriptures, and New-Text Scholarship's Finding of 'Wei-Yan-Da-Yi(微言大義)' was useful in meeting the needs of real politics.
The second is to examine the aspects of Zheng Xuan's application of the New-Text and Old-Text Scholarships' scriptural interpretation method in the process of annotating the Mao-Shi. Obviously, Zheng Xuan was taking full advantage of Old-Text Scholarship's 'Ming-Wu-Xun-Gu' like Mao-Heng in commentating the Mao-Shi. This is because the point was remarkable not only in his Mao-Shi-Po, but also when annotating Zi-Xia's Mao-Shi-Xu or the Mao-Shi-Chuan of the individual poetry itself or the individual poetry itself. However, Zheng Xuan was also using the New-Text Scholarship's Finding of 'Wei-Yan-Da-Yi' method at the same time through the process of interpreting the Mao-Shi rather than sticking to the Old-Text Scholarship's 'Ming-Wu-Xun-Gu' method. As a result, it was used as a key to solving various problems of the times that were problematic at the time of Zheng Xuan. This is a characteristic of Zheng Xuan's Jing-Xue, which actively seeks to cope with the diversified reality by accepting the advantages of the New-Text Scholarship while placing the Old-Text Scholarship at the center.
The third is a look at the central thoughts of Zheng Xuan's Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian(毛詩鄭箋). Zheng Xuan's goal of using the advantages of New-Text and Old-Text Scholarships through annotating the Mao-Shi was to establish a unified ruling order centered on the emperor by establishing absolute power of the emperor. This is because it will be possible to eliminate various government manipulations and harms caused by eunuchs, relatives on the mother's side(外戚), A rich and powerful family's forces of the provinces, and warlords at the time of Zheng Xuan's, and stabilize the confused state of Dong-Han. This is why Zheng Xuan spreads the Zun-Jun-Lun by mystifying the birth of the dynasty founder. And Zheng Xuan did not stop there, but emphasized that the basis for the theory of the Divine Right of Kings lies in the monarch's 'De(德)' so that both dynasties and people's livelihoods can be protected only when rule by virtue(德治) based on the monarch's 'De' is performed.
In Zheng Xuan's view, if the emperor did this, the precarious political situation at the end of the Dong-Han era, which is showing signs of destruction, could be normalized. Because Zheng Xuan believed that politics, after all, depends on what the ruler guides. Therefore, it was thought that if the ruler wakes up and selects a wise servant and executes the rule by virtue with him, the fate of the state on the verge of collapse could be transferred to the era of Da-Tong and Tai-Ping, just like the idea of Confucianism. Therefore, Zheng Xuan's Mao-Shi-Zheng-Jian can be evaluated as a text with strong political characteristics that expressed his political ideology.
