코린토 전·후서에 나타난 사도 바오로의 신비신학 (St. Paul’s Mystical Theology according to the 1 and 2 Corinthians)

초록

가톨릭교회 내에서 신비 체험은 경험적이고 실천적인 측면과 사변적이고 인식론적인 측면으로 구분된다. 사도 바오로의 신비신학을 연구하는 적합한 방법 중의 하나는 사변적이고 인식론적인 측면에서 접근하는 것이다. 그리고 그 접근법의 하나가 바로 부정신학의 방법론이다. 가톨릭교회 역사 안에서 부정신학적 방법론을 가지고 신비 체험과 신비신학을 연구한 사람은 많다. 예를 들어, 니싸의 그레고리오, 위-디오니시오, 『무지의 구름』의 익명의 저자, 십자가 요한 등이 있다. 물론 그리스도교 이전에 활동했던 ‘동굴의 비유’와 함께 부정의 방법으로 신비철학을 전개하였던 플라톤의 영향도 무시할 수 없을 것이다. 사도 바오로가 1코린 13,12와 2코린 3,18에서 신약성경 상에서는 유일한 단어를 사용하여 하느님에 대한 간접적인 인식을 언급한 것은 그가 이미 부정신학의 관점에서 신비신학을 전개하는 방법을 알고 있었다고 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 사도 바오로는 자신의 신비신학을 부정신학적 관점에서 전개한다고 말할 수 있다.
한편, 현대 신학자들이 자주 사용하고 있는 역사-비평적 성경 주석 방법론은 성경 본문을 신비적으로 해석하려는 경향을 강하게 배제한다. 하지만, 가톨릭교회 역사에서 성경을 해석할 때, 영적이고 신비적인 의미를 살피면서 해석하던 방법은 특히 교부들에 의해서 오랫동안 광범위하게 사용되었다. 오늘날 교회 문헌에서도 교회 전통적인 해석 방법을 재확인하고 있다. 사도 바오로를 열심히 연구했던 아우구스티누스도 자신의 신비 체험을 통해 얻게 된 하느님과의 합일의 지식을 설명할 때, 자신의 주장의 근거로 코린토 전·후서를 자주 인용하였다. 그러므로 오늘날 성경을 이해하는 데 있어서, 특히 영성신학 안에서는 영적이며 신비적인 해석의 전통에 따라서 신비신학적인 관점으로 사도 바오로를 연구할 수 있다고 말할 수 있다.
결론적으로, 신비 체험은 꼭 경험적인 측면에서만 설명할 수 있는 것이 아니다. 하느님에 대한 올바른 지식을 깨닫는 것이 곧 하느님과의 합일의 길인 것이다. 그리고 이렇게 하느님에 대한 올바른 지식에 다다르기 위해서는 하느님의 사랑을 우리 신앙인들도 온전히 실천해야만 한다. 이것이 코린토 전·후서를 통해 살펴본 사도 바오로 신비신학의 가르침이다.

영어초록

In the Catholic Church, the Mysticism has been viewed with the experiential and practical point and the speculative and cognitive one. Among two of them, the speculative and cognitive methods are more appropriate for studying St.Paul’s mystical theology. And the apophatic theology is one of those methods. In the history of the Catholic Church, there were many scholars to study the mystical experience and theology by the apophatic theology such as Gregogy of Nyssa, Pseudo-Dionysius, the author of The Cloud of Unknowing, and John of the Cross. Before Christianity, of course, there was Plato who described the allegory of the cave with the apophatic approach, and whose influence might be important in Christian period, too. It seems that St.Paul already recognized the apophatic method to study the mystical theology since he mentioned indirect awareness of God with the word, hapax legomenon in 1 Cor. 13,12 and 2 Cor. 3,18. Therefore, we can say that St. Paul explained his mystical theology with the apophatic method.
On the other hand, many modern theologians who have tendency to use historical-critical method, a popular one today on interpreting the bible deny the mystical exegesis of the biblical texts. Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, however, there has been many other methods to find a spiritual and mystical meaning in the Bible. And also many Church Fathers often used those methods, which are emphasized in the contemporary documents of the Church, today. St.Augustine, who studied intensively about St.Paul’s thoughts, cited the first and second Corinthians as a proof while he mentioned ‘seeing God’, namely a knowledge of the mysticism, acquired from his own experience. Therefore, we can interpret St.Paul’s Epistles with the viewpoint of the mystical theology in the field of the spiritual theology.
In conclusion, the mysticism can be explained not only by the experiential viewpoint, but also by the cognitive one while we understand completely about the true knowledge of God. For understanding God as a whole, it is necessary to practice the true love like His love. This is St.Paul’s instruction on the mystical theology according to the first and second epistles to the Corinthians.
