接梨樹村 西溝結社 儒林의 망명 전 교유 양상 고찰 (A Study on the Pre-Exile Social Interactions of the Yulim Scholars in Jeop-risu Village and Seogu Gyeolsa)

초록

본 연구는 20세기 초 서간도로 망명을 떠나 安東(현 丹東) 接梨樹村에 기거하며 ‘西溝結社’ 조직에 가담한 유림의 망명 전 교유 양상에 대해 살펴본 것이다. 盧相益 주도로 조직된 ‘서구결사’에 참여한 13명은 ‘西溝結社錄’에서 확인된다. 노상익을 포함한 8명은 접리수촌에 함께 기거했던 인물들이고, 나머지 5명은 잠시 머물렀던 인물들이다. 그중에는 노상익, 이건승처럼 널리 알려진 인물도 있지만, 인적 사항조차 제대로 알려지지 않은 李慶一, 黃圭顯, 安蘅遠 등도 포함되어 있다.
13명의 망명 전 교유 양상을 살펴본 결과 이들의 망명 전 교유 양상은 출발지에 따라 크게 경상도 출신 인물들끼리의 교유와 강화도 출신 인물들끼리의 교유로 나누어진다는 사실을 확인했다. 이들 가운데 경상도 출신은 性齋 학파, 寒洲 학파로 나뉘고, 강화도 출신은 양명학파로 묶여 있고, 그밖에 華西 학파가 포함되어 있다는 사실, 이들은 대부분 망명 전부터 혈연, 지연, 학연 등으로 엮여 있어 교유 양상이 대부분 겹친다는 사실도 확인했다. 이에 더해 망명 전부터 교유가 전혀 없던 강화도 지역 양명학자 이건승과 경상도 지역 유림의 교유는 망명 전 이건승의 형 李建昌과 安孝濟와의 교유 관계로부터 시작되었다는 사실도 거듭 확인했다. 이를 통해 ‘서구결사록’에 이름이 오른 13명은 망명을 떠나 ‘서구결사록’에 이름을 올리기에 앞서 고국에서부터 유무형의 교유 관계가 있었고, 그 관계를 이어 망명지에서 ‘서구결사’까지 조직하게 된 것이었다.
이처럼 ‘서구결사록’에 등재된 13명의 망명 전 교유 양상을 살펴본 본 연구 결과물은 그들의 망명 전후 행적의 연관성 파악과 망명지에서의 교유 양상과 활동 반경 연구에 도움을 준다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.

영어초록

This study examines the pre-exile social interactions of the Yulim scholars who, after fleeing to the early 20th-century northern Manchuria, resided in Jeopilri Village (currently Dandong) and joined the "Seogu Gyeolsa" organization. The 13 members who participated in the "Seogu Gyeolsa," organized by Sang-ik Noh, are identified in the "Seogu Gyeolsa Record." Among these, 8 individuals, including Sang-ik Noh, resided together in Jeopilri Village, while the remaining 5 stayed there temporarily. This group includes well-known figures such as Sang-ik Noh and Geon-seung Lee, as well as lesser-known individuals like Kyung-il Lee, Kyu-hyun Hwang, and Hyung-won Ahn, whose personal details are not well-documented.
The study of the pre-exile social interactions of the 13 individuals revealed that these interactions were significantly divided based on their places of origin. Specifically, those from Gyeongsang Province interacted primarily with other Gyeongsang Province natives, while those from Ganghwa Island interacted primarily with others from Ganghwa Island. Among these, those from Gyeongsang Province are divided into the Seongjae and Hanjoo factions, while those from Ganghwa Island are grouped under the Yangming School. Additionally, it is noted that the Hwaseo faction is included. It was also found that most of these individuals were connected by blood, regional ties, or academic connections even before their exile, resulting in overlapping social interactions. Additionally, it was confirmed that the interactions between the Yangming scholars from Ganghwa Island, who had no prior connections, and the Gyeongsang Province scholars began with the pre-exile connections of Geon-seung Lee's elder brother, Geon-chang Lee, and Hyo-je Ahn. This indicates that the 13 individuals listed in the "Seogu Gyeolsa Record" had pre-existing tangible or intangible connections from their homeland before their exile and carried these relationships into their formation of the "Seogu Gyeolsa" in their place of exile.
The findings of this study, which examined the pre-exile social interactions of the 13 individuals listed in the "Seogu Gyeolsa Record," are significant in that they contribute to understanding the connections between their activities before and after exile, as well as the patterns of their social interactions and sphere of activities in the place of exile.
