전근대 문학에 있어서 생활과 문학의 交織 (Interweaves between Life and Literature in the Pre-modern Times)

초록

전근대 문학은 독립적으로 존재하는 것이 아니라, 인문학의 여러 분야와 연관되어 있었으며, 개인과 집단의 여러 생활과 복잡하게 交織된 상태로 존재하였다. 전근대 문학의 성격을 밝히기 위해서는, 작품이 존재했던 구체적 시공간에서 강제로 분리해 문학사에 억지로 배치하는 방식이 아니라, 존재했던 양상과 그것의 同時代的 의미를 먼저 밝혀야 할 것이다. 이것이 곧 작품과 생활과의 교직성을 밝히는 것이다.
생활과의 交織性을 밝혀야 한다고 주장하는 이유는 물론 과거에 대한 온전한 이해의 필요 때문이지만, 동시에 그것이 당연히 지금 - 이곳의 문제와 접속하기 때문이다. 근대에 와서 문학의 전문화와 독립을 중세의 속박으로부터의 해방이라 평가하지만, 그 해방은 진정한 자유를 가져온 것은 아니었다. 문학은 시장적 메커니즘 속으로 던져졌으며, 시장이 문학을 지배하게 된 것이다. 시장성이 희박한 작품은 독자를 잃고 발표되는 순간이 망각의 순간이 된다. 단 한 사람의 독자, 곧 작가와의 친분 때문에 작품집에 비평을 남기는 유일한 독자인 비평가를 제외한다면, 독자를 얻지 못하는 경우가 대부분이다. 근대화의 농도가 짙으면 짙을수록, 문학을 지배하는 자본의 규모가 커지면 커질수록 문학은 자유를 상실한다.
문학의 전문화와 독립은 동시에 상실을 수반한 것이다. 특히 문학의 전문화는, 창작자와 감상자(독자)를 날카롭게 분리하였다. 대부분의 사람은, 창작자의 지위를 잃고, 오직 전문가가 던져주는 작품에만 매달릴 수밖에 없었다. 이것은 결과적으로 글쓰기를 소수의 것으로 만들었으며, 인간의 일상에서 글쓰기 자체를 추방했던 것이다. 글쓰기의 쇠퇴는 아마도 인문적 가치의 쇠퇴와 그 궤적을 같이 할 것이다. 문학과 생활과의 교직성을 다시 복구하는 것은 이런 차원에서 유의미한 일이다. 다시 글쓰기의 시대로 돌아가자는 것이 아니다. 하지만 과거 우리에게 글쓰기와 생활이 일치했던 아름다운 장대한 시간이 있었음을 드러내어, 그것을 교육함으로써 인문적 가치 회복의 교두보로 삼을 수 있을 것이다. 한문학과 생활과의 교직성을 주장하는 이유가 바로 여기에 있다.

영어초록

In the pre-modern times, literature did not exist independently, but was associated with various fields of the humanities. It was also complicatedly interweaved with individual or group lives. To know the nature of the pre-modern literature requires examining the existential forms and contemporary significance of literal works of the pre-modern times, rather than forcibly separating the pre-modern literature from time and space, in which it existed, and integrating it into the history of literature. This indicates the need of determining how literature and life were interweaved with each other in the pre-modern times.
The reason why this study asserts that interweaves between the pre-modern literature and life need to be determined is not only because the determination can provide a full understanding of the past, but also it is directly related to some issues of the present or this moment. In the modern times, assumedly, literature became professional and independent. This was often said that literature was liberated from the restraint of the medieval times. But the liberation didn't bring the true freedom of literature. Literature was forcibly thrown into the market mechanism. In other words, literature got to be ruled by the market. Under this circumstance, now, little marketable works of literature are likely to be forgotten as soon as published, resultantly losing potential readers. Most literal works which are little marketable fail to get readers, except only one reader, that is, a critic who gives a critique just because of personal relations with writers. If modernization becomes deeper and deeper and if capital dominating literature become larger and larger, literature itself would get more and more unfree.
Both the professionalization and independence of literature were followed by certain losses. Especially, the professionalization of literature resulted in a thorough discrimination between creators and appreciators(readers). Most people couldn't avoid sticking to literal works just provided by professional writers, losing the possibility to become creators of their own writings. This forced writing to belong to only a few people. It forced writing to be expelled from human life. Presumedly, there's some coincidence between the fading of writing and the devaluation of the humanities. At this point, it would be considerably significant to restore past interweaving relationships between literature and life. This does not mean that we should return to the age of writing when anyone could be a creator of literal works. Rather, it intends to reveal the fact that in the past, there were wonderful, magnificent moments when writing and life were united into one and then make the fact widely educated and ultimately become the very basis of restoring the value of the humanities. This is the reason why this researcher insists that interweaves between literature and life in the pre-modern times should be determined.
