가부장적 고전텍스트에 대한 문학교육현장의 고민과 모색 (The Issues of Patriarchal Korean Classical Literature Text in The Field of Literature Education)

초록

이 논문은 최근 한국사회의 여성주의 열풍 속에서 고전문학의 위상을 반성적으로 재검토하기 위해 마련되었다. 가부장제에 입각한 봉건시대의 산물인 고전문학은 현재의 여성주의적 문제의식과 충돌하는 지점이 많기 때문이다.
우선 고전텍스트는 전근대 시기의 역사적 산물로서 가부장제의 성차별적 내용을 담고 있으며, 그 생산과 향유 과정에서도 여성들이 소외된 경우가 많다. 뿐만 아니라 고전의 정전화에도 남성중심적 요소들이 크게 영향을 미쳤다.
이와 같은 특성을 지니는 고전텍스트에 대해 대학의 문학교육현장에서 제기되는 비판을 수용하면서 여성주의적 관점에서 새롭게 문학적 규범을 재사유화할 필요가 있다. 그러한 과정 속에서 시대를 관통하는 보편적 가치가 확인되어야 고전으로서의 위상을 확보할 수 있을 것이다. 이에 가부장적 고전텍스트의 한계를 딛고 문학교육현장에서 유의미한 논의를 생산해내기 위해서는 다음의 사항들을 고려해야 할 것이다.
첫째, 텍스트의 재해석과 정전에 대한 인식 전환이 필요하다. 고전텍스트 안에 내재된 성차별적 요소들을 반성하고 재평가하는 것은 비단 젠더적 문제에만 국한되는 것이 아니라 고전을 고정적 체계에서 해방시켜 미래지향적 가치들 속에서 재맥락화하는 작업이기도 하다. 따라서 이는 새로운 시대, 새로운 가치 속에서 정전에 대한 새로운 논의의 장을 마련하는 것으로 이어져야 한다. 이 때 여성주의적 관점은 평등에 기반한 미래지향적 가치 척도로서 유의미하다.
둘째, 문학 주체에 대한 성찰이 필요하다. 전근대 시기의 여성을 제대로 포착하기 위해서는 봉건적 가부장제 사회에서 남성에게 종속된 존재로서 타자화되었던 보편성과 더불어 신분제 사회의 계급적 차별성이 함께 고려되어야 한다. 따라서 고전텍스트 내부의 여성 주체를 평가하기 위해서는 당대 사회의 특수성을 바탕으로 한 다각적 접근이 요구되며, 생산 및 향유 주체로서의 여성을 파악하는 데 있어서도 교육과 문학 행위에서 소외되었던 여성들의 보편적 상황과 더불어 여성 내에서도 계급적 지위에 따라 생산과 향유의 방식이 크게 차별화되었던 정황이 함께 고려되어야 한다.
셋째, 문학교육현장의 학생들이 새로운 해석의 주체가 될 수 있도록 하기 위한 교육방법론의 모색이 필요하다. 젠더 문제는 비단 여성만의 문제가 아니다. 그 근저에서 작동하는 차별적인 권력체계는 성별 구도를 넘어서는 영역에까지 영향을 미친다. 따라서 여성주의적 관점에서 기존의 확립된 의미들을 해체하고 재사유하는 것은 억압적이고 차별적인 체계 전반에 대한 반성으로 확장되어야 하며, 그 점에서 평등과 해방을 가치화하는 교육현장의 중요 방법론이 될 수 있다. 이에 교수자의 권위를 최소화하고 젠더적 감수성에 민감한 학생들이 새로운 해석의 주체가 되도록 유도하는 다양한 수행 전략이 모색될 필요가 있다.

영어초록

This article is written to reflectively reexamine the status of Korean classical literatures since the feminism wave is spreading rapidly in recent Korean society. Korean classical literatures which are the creatures of the feudal ages based on patriarchism, are now necessary be revalued in current feministic views.
Above all, classic texts are containing misogynistic contents of patriarchism as a result of the pre-modern history and excluded women during its production and enjoyment.
Therefore, it is need to reconsider the literature roles of the classics in the feministic view, embracing the criticisms raised in the literature education fields of universities about its sexist contexts. After discovering the time-penetrating universal values through this process, the texts would be able to secure a footing as the classics. The following matters should be considered.
First, the reinterpretation of the texts and a shift of the canons are needed. Examining and revaluing the misogynistic factors in classical literature are not only about gender issues but also about recontextualization of the classics in future-oriented values by setting those free from fixed systems. Thus this process should lead to the recontextualization of the canon that the new era and new value ask. Feminism, on this occasion, is significant as a future-oriented value scale based on equality.
Second, examination of the main agents of literature is needed. To fully understand the women of pre-modern ages, the universality of women objectification in the feudal patriarchal society, and the difference between classes of hierarchical society should both be considered. Therefore, to estimate female subjects in the classics, it is necessary to approach various sides considering the specialty of the society at that time. Furthermore, the situation that females have been isolated from education and literature, and that there were differences between them based on their social classes should also be taken into consideration to understand women as the writers and readers of the classic literature.
Third, educational methodologies for students as being new evaluator should be sought. Gender issues and discriminative systems of power are not only the problems of women themselves but also the problems that affect the fields above sexual confrontation. Hence, dissolution and reconsideration of the existing meanings through feministic interpretation should be expanded as a repentance of the entire existing oppressive-discriminative systems. At that point, those could be the main educational methodology that values equality and liberty. Accordingly, various methods should be sought such as minimalizing authoritarianism of the educators and attracting participation from students who are sensitive to gender sensibility as new evaluators of the classics.
