초록

이 글의 목적은 남북한 전쟁 서사에 나타난 주체들의 이동 및 서사적 기법에 초점을 맞추어, 김남천의 「꿀」(1951)·황건의 「불타는 섬」(1953·1955)·정비석의 「간호장교」(1952)·황순원의 「목숨」(1951)·「너와 나만의 시간」(1958)·『나무들 비탈에 서다』(1960) 등 전방의 남성과 후방의 여성 간의 시간적 교차를 다룬 소설들을 비교 분석하는 것이다. 이를 통해 시공간에 대한 국가적 장악력이 극대화되었던 총력전 체제하에서, 남성과 여성이 각각 어떠한 시점(時點)에 배치되어 서사적 효과들을 산출했는지를 검토함으로써 전쟁 서사 속 젠더의 시간적 재편 양상을 규명했다. 나아가 이 글에서는 개개인의 시간 실천이 국가의 장악력을 초과하는 양상을 살펴보기 위해, 작품 속 여성들이 총력전의 성별분업 구도를 넘어 각자의 현재와 미래를 향해 이동하는 과정을 고찰했다.
1950-60년대 남북한 전쟁 서사에 관한 선행 연구들은 국가주의적 관점에 주목하여, 공간의 형상화 방식을 중점적으로 분석했다. 본 연구는 시간성이라는 연구 방법론을 활용함으로써, 한국전쟁기 성별분업에 입각한 국민화 과정이 남성-전방/여성-후방이라는 공간 재편뿐만 아니라 남성-현재-(미래)/여성-과거라는 시간 재편까지 초래했음을 논증했다. 이처럼 전쟁 서사의 시간성에 주목함으로써 본 연구는 한국전쟁기 시공간에 대한 국가적 장악력을 입체적으로 규명했을 뿐만 아니라, 국가적 질서를 넘어 다층적 시간성을 향해 “자율적으로 나아가고자” 했던 개별 주체들의 모빌리티까지 폭넓게 포착했다는 측면에서 의의를 지닌다.

영어초록

The purpose of this article is to compare and analyze fictions of South and North Korea set in the Korean War. Through this, this article examine the aspects of women represented in the 1950s and 1960s war narrative disappearing into uncertainty out of the war spectacle in connection with the transcendent past/divided present, or moving toward individual futures beyond the position granted by the state. In the inter-Korean war narrative, which used a spatiotemporal gender structure to build a wartime mobilization system, women are evoked and disappeared through flashback or fade-out techniques as an abstract medium to inspire and express private or national values that need to be separated to focus men on war performance. The timing and location of women's appearance/exit in the narrative are limited to the 'undifferentiated past', and they tend to be released from the glorious future of the coming male-state. But the inner will of women to perpetuate past timeliness by "watering past memories," or the movement of women to move toward individual futures by "transforming the universal purpose of government into private purposes," highlights the multi-layered timeliness that will come beyond the public reality of war or war.
Until now, previous studies on the inter-Korean war narrative in the 1950s and 1960s have analyzed the ideological acceptance pattern and the formulation of the spatiality of the wartime system such as forward and backward based on a nationalistic perspective. This article analyzed the relationship between men and women in the exhibition hall, including Kim Nam-cheon's "Honey" (1951), Hwang Geon's "Burning Island" (1953), Jeong Bi-seok’s "Nursing Officer" (1952), Hwang Soon-won's "Life" (1951), "Time for You and Me" (1958), and "Trees Stand on Slope" (1960), focusing on individual internal and narrative techniques surrounding the exhibition system. This study is significant in that it examines the difference in gender composition embodied in the inter-Korean war narrative from various angles by using the analysis framework of temporality, while also examining the spatio-temporal movement of women who wanted to give themselves "excessive" historicity.
