초기 수도원의 영성에 나타난 종교적 함의 (Missional Implication in Monastic Spirituality of Early Peri)

초록

본 논문은 수도원이 형성되면서 그 속에서 수도사들이 살아온 삶들이 선교와 어떠한 관련을 맺고 있는가를 고찰하고 현대 교회가 선교적 삶을 살기 위해 수도사들로부터 배워야 할 영향력은 무엇인가를 찾는 것이 목적이다. 즉 수도사들이 말씀의 실천을 통해 체득된 영성이 선교에서 어떠한 의미를 갖고 있으며, 이를 어떻게 현대교회의 삶 속에서 구현해 내야 하는가에 관한 것이다. 필자는 선교를 복음을 말로 선포하는 것이나 어떤 행동이 아니라, 복음의 담지자를 통해 보여지는 삶으로 본다. 그리스도의 향기를 내며 그분의 편지가 되고 그분이 세상에 계시면서 가르치신 대로 사는 것이다. 수도사들은 예수 그리스도의 삶을 재현하기 위해 영성생활을 시작하였다. 이런 점에서 볼 때 수도사들의 삶은 바로 선교적 삶이라 할 수 있다.
수도원은 정치와 문화적인 문제로 형성되었지만 그 본질은 수도사들이 세속에 물들지 않고 하나님과 좀 더 깊은 관계를 맺기 위해 사막으로 향했으며, 기독교가 정치화되면서 고통을 당하던 서민들이 사막으로 가면서 수도사들과 서민들이 공동체를 이루게 되었다. 수도사들은 비록 세속을 피해 사막으로 향했지만 세속의 사람들을 속되게 바라보지는 않았으며, 항상 그리스도의 삶을 보여주고 실천함으로써 그들에게 신뢰를 얻었으며, 세속인들도 수도사들에게 도움을 청하고 기도를 요청하면서 수도사들이 선교에서 중요한 위치를 차지하게 되었다.
이 수도사들이 갖고 있던 영성을 본 논문에서는 세 가지로 정의하였는데, 영성의 기본인 기도와 수도사들이 중시하였던 금욕에 대한 부분을 자기부정의 관점에서 그리고 그들의 실제 삶 속에 나타난 영성이다. 세 가지는 한편으로 치우쳐서는 안 되며 균형과 조화를 이루어야 바른 영성을 가질 수 있다는 관점에서 전인적 영성으로 표현하였다. 즉 초대 수도사들이 갖고 있던 영성은 전인적 영성이었으며, 이 영성은 삶 속에서 나타나는 그리스도의 형상을 보여줌으로써 비그리스도인들에게 감동을 끼치는 것이었다. 초대 수도사들이 갖고 있던 전인적 영성은 일관성이 있었으며 지속적이었으므로 공신력을 획득할 수 있었다.
초대 사막 수도원의 영성은 미미한 시작이었지만 부패되어가는 교회에 정화의 기능을 하며 사회 하층민의 희망으로 그 위치를 확보하였다고 본다. 그 이유는 수도사들의 영성이 주는 감화력과 공신력을 갖춘 전인적 영성 때문이었다. 초기 수도사들은 사회의 변화를 도모한 것도 아니고, 사람들에게 어떤 영향력을 끼치기 위해 수도원으로 향한 것도 아니었다. 그들은 단지 하나님과의 깊은 관계를 원하여 욕심을 버리고 유혹이 없는 곳으로 간 사람들이다. 그러나 이들의 무욕의 태도나 삶이 주변의 어려운 사람들을 끌어 모았으며 그들에게 깊은 감화력을 줌으로써 복음을 보여주는 삶을 살았다. 이것이 초기 수도원의 영성이었다. 오늘날 기독교인들도 삶을 통해 보여줌으로써 그리스도를 증거해야 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to consider how the monks lifestyle was connected with the mission being formed of the monastery, and to figure out the influence that the church of the time have to learn through monks for missional life. That is, what mean has in the mission the monks spirituality had experienced in that had practiced of the Scriptures, and how embody it in the church of time.
The writer think of that mission is to show through the life of evangelist, neither just preach the gospel nor any action. It is that send forth fragrance of Christ, to became the letter of Him and to live Christlike. The monks started the spiritual life to reproduce the life of Christ. For this reason, the monks lifestyle was expected to be missional life.
The monastery constituted by the politic and cultural problems, and its essence was not infected with worldy life of them. They went to the desert to want to have relation with God more deeply. Therefore they go toward to the desert.
When the Christianity had become politicized, the humble classes who had gotten suffering of right to live went to desert. Then the humble classes and monks had made a village community together. Even though the monks left the world and toward desert, they did not think of people like a worldly man. They showed and practiced the Christian lifestyle, by doing so they had gotten the confidence of the people. Also the people asked to help and to prayed to monks, this causes the monks occupied an important position in the mission.
Spirituality that the monks had are defined three of it in this study. They are prayer that is essential of the spirituality, self-denial that the monks is considered and spirituality that is showed in their life. They cannot be partiality and have to have whole spirituality that balance and harmony meet each other halfway to have right spirituality. Namely, early christian monks had had whole spirituality and it showed in their life Christlike. For this reason, they had touched non-christians heart.
Whole spirituality had gotten public confidence because of having consistency and lasting, which early christian monks had. Although the spirituality of the early dessert christian monastery started very slight, it would make sure of it’s position of the hope in the humble classes. Because it was the whole spirituality of influence and public trust that the spirituality of monks had given. They went to the monastery in desert neither make a social change nor have a good influence. They abandoned their desire and went to the place that had nothing temptation so that they only want to have relation with God deeply.
However their manner of selfless and lifestyle had made gathered people around themselves, and had lived to show the gospel by giving influence them. That was the spirituality of the early monastery. Christian today have to show the gospel through their lifestyle and with this to become a witness for Christ.
