백제 印刻瓦의 새로운 유형과 변천과정 (A new identify of Baekje stamped-roof tiles and its transformation process)

초록

본고는 최근 조사가 이루어진 공주 공산성 내 백제 왕궁관련유적에서 출토된 기와 중에서 새롭게 확인된인각와를 중심으로 백제 인각와의 변천과정을 살펴보고, 인각와에 시문된 三山文과 仙人文의 의미를 분석해보았다. 기존에 공산성에서 발굴조사된 인각와는 많지 않았으나, 최근 공산성 내 백제 왕궁관련유적에서 다수의 인각와가 확인되었다. 공산성출토 인각와는 인장의 유형에 따라서 방형과 원형인장으로 분류되며, 각인된 내용에 따라 문양인각과 명문인각으로 구분할 수 있다.
문양인각와는 방형과 원형인장이 확인되는데, 가로 8~10, 세로 5.5~6.5㎝크기의 장방형 문양판에 三山文 과 仙人文 등이 날인되어 있는 것과 지름 3.5~2.5㎝크기의 원형의 문양판에 기하문과 파문이 시문된 문양 인각와로 구분된다. 층위상 장방형 문양인각와는 웅진도읍기에 집중되어 확인되며, 이와같은 유형은 지금까지공산성에서만 출토되고 있다. 원형의 문양인각와는 3.5㎝내외의 크기와 2.5㎝내외의 크기로 구분되는데, 2.5 ㎝내외 크기의 인장은 사비도읍기 이후에도 지속적으로 확인되어 선후관계를 살필 수 있다.
명문인각와는 원형과 방형인장으로 확인되는데, 지름 3.3~4㎝내외 지름의 원형인장에 ‘王’ ‘久’ ‘下’ ‘古’ 자문이시문되어 있다. 특히 ‘古’ 자문은 右書로 반듯하게 날인되어 있는 반면에, ‘王’ ‘久’ ‘下’는 左書로 글자가 뒤집어져날인되어 있다. 인각와의 연대를 살필 수 있는 ‘大通’(527)명 인각와의 경우 우서로 반듯하게 날인되어 있고, 7세기 이후 사비 · 익산지역 출토 인각와의 인장이 대부분이 지름 2.5㎝내외의 소형에 우서로 날인되어 있는 것을감안할 때, 좌서의 인장이 3.5㎝ 내외로 큰 인각와가, 우서의 인장이 작은 인각와 보다 이른 시기에 제작되었을것으로 판단된다.
따라서 공산성 출토 인각와를 비롯하여 7세기 대에 사비 · 익산지역에서 집중적으로 출토된 인각와를 함께비교분석한 결과, 인장은 문양이 시문된 장방형의 문양인각에서 명문과 문양이 작게 시문된 원형과 작은 방형인각으로 변한다. 인장 내의 글씨는 바르게 양각하여 기와면에 글씨가 거꾸로 날인된 左書 형태에서, 인장에 글씨를 거꾸로 음각하여 기와면에 글씨가 바르게 양각 날인되는 右書 형태로 변화하여 7세기대에는 상하조합식 인각와가 성행하는 것으로 확인된다.
특히 공산성 백제 왕궁관련유적의 방형 석축연못지에서 집중적으로 출토된 삼산문 · 선인문 인각와는 문양의 특성상 무령왕릉 은제탁잔과 금동대향로, 산경문전 등에 시문된 삼산문의 형태와 비교가능하며, 신선사상의 道家的 표현일 가능성을 살필 수 있다. 이를 기초로 웅진도읍기 백제 왕궁 내부에 방형 연못 주변에 왕권의신성화를 위한 도교적 사유체제의 기원이 반영된 누각이 존재했을 가능성을 우선적으로 검토할 수 있다. 즉 三 山文과 仙人文이 시문된 인각와는 왕실건물 중심의 수요체계에 대한 공급자의 표현으로서의 문양인장과 더불어 왕실 건물의 상징성과 정치적 기원에 대한 목적이 함께 반영되었을 가능성이 매우 높을 것으로 판단된다.

영어초록

This paper examines the transition process of the Baekje stamped-roof tiles newly identified among the tiles in Baekje Dynasty period excavated from the Baekje royal palace ruins within the Gongsanseong Castle in Gongju, which have been subject to recent surveys and investigations and analyzed the meaning of ‘Samsanmun(三山文)’ and ‘Suninmun(仙人文)’ engraved in the stamped-roof tiles. There are not many stamped-roof tiles that have been excavated and investigated near the Gongsanseong Castle but, in recent years, quite a few stamped-roof tiles have been discovered and identified at the Baekje royal palace ruins. The stamped-roof tiles excavated near the Gongsanseong Castle are classified into the square tile and the circular tile based on the type of tensile with the engravings classified into the pattern the inscription.
The stamped-roof tiles with pattern come in both square and circular tiles, some of which are stamped with ‘Samsanmun’ and ‘Suninmun’ on the rectangular pattern plate sized 8-10㎝ in length and 5.5-6.5 in width while others are engraved with a short phrase. The stamped-roof tiles with the rectangular pattern on top layer are identified to have been massively excavated during the period of the capital of Woongjin, and the tiles with these patterns have been excavated at Gongsanseong Castle only. The stamp at the size of 2.5㎝ or so continued to be discovered following the period of the capital of Sabi, enabling us to make clear the order of events and their implications.
The stamped-roof tiles with quotes come in both circular and square shape and such characters as ‘王’ ‘久’ ‘下’ and ‘古’ engraved on the seal with a diameter of about 3.3~4cm. In particular, the character '古' is stamped straight in right hand writing, while ‘王’ ‘久’ and ‘下’ are stamped upside down in the left hand writing. Considering the fact that the ‘大通’(527) stamped-roof tiles that indicate the period of stamped-roof tiles are stamped straight in right hand writing and that most stamps on the stamped-roof tiles excavated in Sabi and Iksan regions from the 7th century come in small size with a diameter of about 2.5㎝, the stamped-roof tiles in the left hand writing are considered to have been produced earlier than the ones in the right hand writing.
The stamped-roof tiles with ‘Samsanmun’ and ‘Suninmun’ on them excavated at Gongsanseong Castle Samsanmun and Suninmun were extensively discovered near the square-shaped stone-walled pond as part the Baekje royal palace remains. The distinctive features of the pattern makes it possible to compare the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong with the form of Samsanmun inscribed in the cup with stand and to examine the possibility of expressing Taoistic expression. These indicate a possible existence of a pavilion around the square pond inside the Baekje palace during the period of the capital of Woongjin, reflecting the origin of the Taoistic philosophical system designed to sanctify the kingship. That is, it is highly likely that stamped-roof tiles inscribed with ‘Samsanmun’ and ‘Suninmun’ aimed to represent, through the patterns, the symbolism and political orientation of the royal building along with the supplier's expression as opposed to the demand system centered on the royal buildings.
