루마니아 상장요(喪葬謠) “전나무의 노래”에 나타난 물아일체(物我一體)의 세계관 (The World View of ‘Mulailche’ in Romanian Funeral Song, the Song of Fir)

초록

나무는 종교 신화적 상징에 있어 우주의 세 축, 즉 하늘과 지상 그리고 지하세계를 하나로 연결해주는 기둥, 세계수(世界樹)를 의미한다. 또한 나무는 자연과 시간의 재생 그리고 순환을 의미한다. 나무는 자연의 삶과 죽음에 연관되어 오래 전부터 루마니아인에게 출생이나 죽음의 실체로 인식되었고, 이후 제의적 가치와 신화적 실현을 통해 출생, 결혼, 죽음의 통과의례에 적용되어왔다. 전나무는 수목 숭배의 신성한 이미지를 통하여 망자의 분신이자 천국의 나무를 상징하는 장례나무가 되고, 또 결혼에 비유된 망자의 장례에서 신랑이나 신부의 역할을 대신하기도 한다. 루마니아의 상장요(喪葬謠) “전나무의 노래”는 ‘도입’, ‘주저앉힘과 이동’, ‘망자혼의 전의’, ‘대단원’이라는 네 개의 서사 단락을 통하여 이승에서 저승으로 넘어가는 생물계의 극복과 현실에서 신화의 세계로 들어가는 물질계의 극복을 보여준다. 여기에 ‘대구(對句)와 이분법’, ‘후렴구’ 그리고 ‘삼회화(三回化)’를 활용함으로서 구조적 완성도를 높이고 있다. 전나무를 구하러 떠나는 젊은이들의 이야기로 시작되는 이 노래는 자연과 인간의 관계, 전나무의 독백, 낯선 곳으로의 이동 그리고 ‘대장정’으로 정의된 망자제의를 함의한다. 특히 상반된 공간의 이동은 정상과 비정상, 이승과 저승 사이의 심화된 갈등의 무대를 만들어준다. 죽음을 형상화한 전나무는 상장요(喪葬謠)의 말미에 이르러 소멸과 죽음의 번뇌를 암시하며, 전나무 자신이 망자의 또 다른 자아라는 물아일체(物我一體)의 세계관을 보여주게 된다.

영어초록

The tree, in the religious mythological symbols, represents the pillar and the tree of world that connect the three axes of the universe like the sky, the earth and the underworld. The tree also means the regeneration and the circulation of the nature and the time. It has long been recognized as a tree of birth or a tree of death by the Romanians in connection with life and death of the nature, and has since been applied to the rites of passage like the birth, the marriage and the death through ritual values and mythological realizations.
The fir becomes the alter ego of the dead and at the same time a funeral tree symbolizing the tree of heaven through the sacred image of its worship, and it may even take the place of the bridegroom or bride in the funeral of the dead compared to marriage.
The Romanian funeral song, The Song of Fir, shows, on the one hand, the overcoming of the biological world from this world to the other world and, on the other hand, the overcoming of the material world from reality to mythical world, through the four narrative descriptions of ‘the introduction’, ‘falling and moving of fir’, ‘the shift of death likened to a wedding’ and ‘the denouement’. In addition, the structural maturity is being enhanced by utilizing of the distich, the dichotomy, the refrain and the narrative technique by three times (the effect of promoting the tension of the subject or the plot by repeating the main act or event three times).
This funeral song, which begins with the story of young people leaving for the tree, implies the relationship between nature and humans, the monologue of fir, the moving to an unfamiliar place and the funeral rite defined as ‘the great journey’. In particular, the moving to the opposite and heterogeneous space creates a stage of deep conflict between ‘normal and abnormal’ and ‘this world and the other’. At the end of this song, the fir tree symbolizing death suggests finally the disappearance of life and the anguish of death, and reveals the world view of ‘Mulailche’ that the fir himself is another self of the dead.
