세지마 가즈요 건축에 나타난 유기적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Organic Characteristics of Sejima Kazuyo Architecture)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 공간의 다원화에 따라 다핵구조의 형식을 갖지만 독립되지 않고 상호보완적 관계를 갖는 유기적 건축 방식은 연속된 흐름을 확보하는 구체적이고 실용적인 수단으로 활용되고 있다. 세지마 가즈요의 공간에 나타난 유기적 특성을 분석하는 것은 유기적 건축의 근본적 개념이 현대에 어떻게 적용되고 있는가를 확인하고 앞으로 현대사회에 적절하게 적용되어 효과적인 공간구성을 이룰 수 있도록 기초 자료를 마련하고자 한다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 유기성의 명확한 개념을 확립하고자 유기성 및 유기적 건축의 선행연구에 기반하여 이론적 개념을 자세히 분석하고 주요 키워드를 도출하였다. 또한 세지마 가즈요 건축의 공간구성 방식을 다루는 선행연구 분석을 통해 도출한 구조적 특성과 유기적 건축의 개념 및 특성과의 관계 요소를 추출함으로써 세지마 가즈요 공간에 유기적 특성이 표현된 공간을 분석하고 그 효과를 드러내고자 하였다. 분석 결과는 사례에 적용하여 세지마 가즈요 공간에 나타난 유기적 특성을 객관적으로 입증하였으며 사례분석의 범위는 최근 20년간 세지마가 참여한 작품 중 유기적 특성이 잘 구현되어있는 건축을 대상으로 하였다. (결과) 분석에서 나타난 세지마 가즈요 공간의 유기적 특성은 공간의 유연성, 생성적 관계성, 구조적 가변성의 세 분류로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있었으며, 각각의 세부 속성이 나타내는 효과를 통해 공간구성 방식이 갖는 유기성을 이해하고 적용할 수 있었다. 공간의 유연성은 확정적 사고를 배제하고 다양한 기능 및 경험을 제공함으로써 그 효과를 드러낸다. 이는 사용자의 사고에 따라 다르게 형성되는 공간에서의 사유를 반영하고자 하였다. 생성적 관계성은 다양한 요소와의 결합을 통한 관계 형성을 의미하며 세지마 가즈요 공간에서는 내외부가 교차하여 상호 작용하고자 하는 구조로 나타난다. 또한 구조적 가변성은 어떠한 조건 아래 변할 수 있는 성질을 의미하며 건축을 성장 가능한 유기성을 가진 구조체로 바라보는 특성을 갖는다. (결론) 현대에는 건축의 부분을 구성하는 각각의 요소들이 하나로 통합되어 전체로 인식되게 하는 유기적 건축에 대한 요구가 커지고 있다. 이러한 요구에 따라 세지마 가즈요 공간에 나타난 유기적 특성을 분석한 본 연구를 통해 공간의 부분들을 통합체로 인식하게 하는 유기적 특성에 대한 이해가 선행되어 현대의 무한한 공간의 창출에 적용되길 기대한다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) With spatial pluralization, architecture takes the form of a multidimensional structure. A non-independent, complementary, and organic architectural pattern is used as a concrete and practical means to secure continuous flow. This study aims to provide preliminary data on the Sejima Kazuyo space by analyzing its organic characteristics to identify how the fundamental concepts of organic architecture are adequately applied in contemporary society, which is necessary for establishing an effective spatial structure. (Method) This study analyzed theoretical concepts and presented keywords based on previous studies on organisms and organic architecture. In this regard, this study examines the organic characteristics and effects of the Sejima space by analyzing previous studies on how to deal with Sejima’s spatial structure to establish relationships between the structural characteristics, features, and concepts of organic architecture. The analytical results objectively verified the organic characteristics of the Sejima space based on relevant cases. The scope of the case analysis covered architectural works with the starkest organic characteristics that Sejima performed over a 20-year period. (Results) The organic characteristics of the Sejima space were divided into three factors—namely, spatial flexibility, generative relations, and structural variability—based on the analysis conducted above. Organisms with spatial structure patterns can be understood and applied based on the effects of their detailed attributes. Spatial flexibility eliminates stereotypical thinking and provides various functions and experiences to prove its effectiveness. This can be interpreted in the context in which thinking within different spaces formed by a user’s thinking is applied and reflected. A generative relationship is one established through associations with multiple elements. This is embodied in an interactive structure of interconnected internal and external Sejima spaces. Structural variability refers to the tendency of a material to change under certain conditions. One of its characteristics is that it views architecture as an evolving organic structure. (Conclusions) In the contemporary age, there has been a gradually growing demand for organic architecture to integrate each element of multiple architectural parts into a single one and consider it as a whole. Considering this, this study analyzed the organic characteristics of the Sejima space. It is anticipated that this research will provide a basis for understanding the organic characteristics that involve the integration of spatial parts and applying them to indefinite space in the contemporary age.
