南越國에서 해양교역의 역할: 南越王博物院의 전시소장품을 중심으로 (The Role of Maritime Trade in Ancient Nayue Kingdom: Focusing on the Exhibition & Collections of the Naye King Museum)

이 논문은 중국남부에 세워졌던 남월국(BC.204~BC112년)의 지속과 붕괴에 해외교역이 어떠한 역할을 했는지를 분석한 것이다. 南越王博物院에 전시된 전시(소장)품을 그 분석의 대상으로 삼았다. 해외교역의 점에서 볼 때, 남월국은 남방 육해상교역로에서 해양 실크로드로의 전환기에 위치해 있었다. 남월국은 진한의 체제와 상징으로 왕권의 귄위를 세우고자 했고, 그 양상은 묘의 구조와 부장품에 잘 드러난다. 그것은 남월국이 독자적인 왕조국가의 수립을 도모한 표상이다. 박물관에 소장 전시되어 있는 해외교역품은 상당수가 인도-미얀마-雲南의 남방육상교역로를 통하여 들어온 것으로 추정할 수 있다. 해외 교역품 가운데 남중국해를 통과하여 직접 番禹에 들어온 해양선박에 적재되었던 것은 많았다고 보기 어렵다. 해상교역은 남월국의 존립과 발전에 유용한 동력이 될 수 있었지만, 남월국은 아직 해양왕국으로서의 입지를 충분히 살리지 못했다. 북쪽으로 南嶺山脈이 둘러싼 지리적 조건은 남월국의 존립에 유용하였지만, 남쪽의 바다는 해상교역에 활용되지 못했다. 북쪽에서 내려온 남월왕권들은 월족과의 연합 위에 통치했고, 토착의 월족들은 해양항해에 일정한 경험과 지식과 정보를 보유하고 있었다. 남월국이 소멸된 전한 무제 이후 番禹는 남해물산을 입수하기 위한 거점 해양도시가 되었다. 남해물산은 중원과 동남아해역을 묶어주는 물자였다. 남월국은 남해물산의 중계교역으로서 국력의 발판을 만들 수 있었다. 그러나 페르시아 혹은 인도 해양상인들은 중국에 다다르기 어려웠고, 남월의 상인들도 동남아로 진출할 조건을 구비하지 못했다. 남월국의 단명은 해양 입지를 충분히 살리지 못한 탓이다. 남월국은 단명으로 끝났지만, 남월국의 영역은 왕국이 아닌 문화권 즉 羽人船紋銅鼓 문화권으로 지속되었다.

This paper analyzes the role that overseas trade played in the continuation and collapse of the Nanyue Kingdom (204 BC - 112 BC) established in southern China and Vietnam. The objects of the exhibition (collection) displayed at the Nanyue King Museum were the subject of analysis. In terms of overseas trade, Nanyue Kingdom was located in a transitional period from the southern land trade route to the maritime Silk Road. The Nanyue Kingdom sought to establish imperial authority through the system and symbols of imperial Jinhan, and this aspect is clearly revealed in the structure of the tomb and grave goods. It is a symbol of the Nanyue Kingdom's attempt to establish an independent dynasty. The overseas trade goods stored and displayed in the museum came through the southern sea-land trade route of India-Myanmar-Yunnan. The most trade goods brought in by ship were not loaded onto maritime vessels that passed through the South China Sea and entered Canton directly. The Nanyue Kingdom has not yet fully maintained its position as a maritime nation. The geographical condition surrounded by the Nanling Mountains to the north was useful for the existence of the Nanyue Kingdom, but the sea to the south was not yet utilized for maritime trade. The Nanyue royal family who came down from the north ruled on the basis of union with the Yue people, and the indigenous Yue people had certain experience, knowledge, and information in ocean navigation. Maritime trade could be a useful driving force for the kingdom's existence and development. After the extinction of the Nanyue Kingdom under Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Canton became a base maritime city for acquiring South Sea products. South Sea products were the goods that linked the Chinese Central Plains and Southeast Asia. The Nanyue Kingdom was able to establish a foundation for national power through transit trade of South Sea products. However, Persian or Indian maritime merchants could not reach China, and Nanyue merchants also did not have the conditions to advance into Southeast Asia. The short life of Nanyue Kingdom was due to the failure to fully utilize its maritime location. Although the Nanyue Kingdom was short-lived, the territory of the Nanyue Kingdom continued as a cultural sphere, that is, the cultural sphere of boat with feathered men motif’s Copper Drums rather than a kingdom.
