경남 서부지역 삼국시대 수혈건물지의 구들연구 (Study on Ondol of Residences during the Three Kingdoms Period in the Western Part of Gyeongnam)

초록

본 연구는 경남 서부지역의 삼국시대 수혈건물지 내 구들을 통해 수혈건물지의 특징을 파악하는 데 목적
이 있다. 삼한시대에서 삼국시대로 이행됨에 따라 구들과 부뚜막의 채용은 전국적으로 나타나는 보편적
인 현상이지만, 그 양상은 각 지역마다 상이하게 나타난다. 경남 서부지역 수혈건물지의 평면형태는 타
원형을 띠고 있으며,주로 평지에 입지한 유적에서만 구들이 확인된다. 구들은 형태적인 특징을 통해 크
게 I형과 II형으로 분류되는데, 구들 I형은 경남 서부지역에 한해서는 삼한시대 유적에서만 나타나는 형
식으로 사천 늑도 유적과 사천 방지리 유적에서 확인된 바 있다. 구들 II형은 삼국시대의 것으로 주로 원
형계 수혈건물지에 부가되며,특히 경남 서부지역에 집중되는 경향을 보인다. 구들 I형과 구들 II형이 구
조적인 차이를 보이는 것은 시기변화에 따른 구들 I형의 문제점을 개선하여,취사와 난방의 효율성을 높
이기 위한 기술적인 변화상을 보여준다고 할 수 있다.
경남 서부지역의 구들은 수혈건물지 내부에 일정한 정형적인 패턴을 가지고 설치되는 경향을 보이는데,
기후 환경과 유적이 입지한 지형에 따른 난방 효율성 극대화와 화재 예방을 위한 것으로 추정된다. 그리
고 구들은 수혈건물지의 구조와 직접적인 연관성을 가지는데,구들 II형은 타원형 수혈건물지의 분포 범
위와 궤를 같이 하고 있다. 타원형 수혈건물지의 분포범위는 주로 경남 서부지역을 중심으로 동으로는
낙동강 以西에서 서로는 지리산 以東까지이며, 북으로는 소백산맥 以南이 주 분포범위이다. 하지만 주
분포범위 밖으로 일정한 범위에서는 방형 및 타원형 수혈건물지가 혼재하는 양상을 보이는데,경남 서부
지역의 타원형 수혈건물지 문화와 인접한 방형 수혈건물지 문화의 점이지대로 파악된다. 타원형 수혈건
물지는 동일시기에 경남 서부지역에 집중적으로 나타나는 특징적인 주거양식으로,이를 주체로 하는 가
야 주거문화를 구체적으로 보여주고 있다.

영어초록

This study examines the regional characteristics through the features of
ondol (traditional Korean underfloor heating system) in residences of the Three
Kingdoms Period in the western part of Gyeongnam. The use of ondol and
cooking-ranges, which were passed down from the Samhan (Three Hans)
Period to the Three Kingdoms Period, is typically seen throughout the nation,
but its appearance together with the types of residences, are different in each
region. The plane of residences in the western part of Gyeongnam is oval
shaped and ondol can usually be found in flat lands. White internal
constructions materials during the Samhan Period used flagstones, clay was
most frequently used in the Three Kingdoms Period. This change of construction
materials is understood to have been caused and developed by not only ease of
extracting materials, but in order to express detailed ondol structures and to
prevent smoke leaking into the room.
Based on the formative features of the ondol, it is generally grouped as I
type or II type. ondol I types are types that appear only in remains of the
Samhan Period at the western part of Gyeongnam and they have been
confirmed at Sacheon Neukdo remains and Sacheon Bangjiri remains. ondol II
types are from the Three Kingdoms Period and are typically appended on
circular residences, showing a particular concentration on the western areas of
Gyeongnam. The ondol I-types of the Samhan Period are ‘가’ shaped and the
point in which the cooking-range and hypocaust connects is bent at almost a
right angle. On the other hand, II-types are normally added to the oval-shaped
residences and follows the curvatures of the residence to naturally connect the
cooking-range and hypocaust, giving the general plane the appearance of an
arc. Fundamentally, type I and type II are the same heating system, but the
detailed differences show the technological changes for enhancing cooking and
heating by addressing the problems of ondol I type with the passing of time. On
the other hand, the change of the structure for smooth ventilation and high
heating efficiency has a high possibility that it first took into consideration fire
prevention by moving the ondol to the edge of the building.
The above ondol II type has these features only when added to residences
built on an oval shaped plane and the II type has the same distribution range of
oval residences. The distribution range of oval-shaped residences were focused
mainly on the western part of Gyeongnam and to the east up to western
Naktonggang (Riv.), west up to the eastern part of Jirisan (Mt.) and to the north
up to Sobaeksanmaek (mountain range). However, in a certain range outside of
the main distribution range, a combination of square and oval residences are
apparent and it is recognized to be the crossing point of the oval residential
culture of western Gyeongnam and the nearby square residential culture. The
plane form of residences seen in ondol I types are almost all square typed, while
the residences confirmed in II types show a circular shape. This suggests that the
structure of ondol are directly related with the structure of the residences.
The oval shaped residences and ondol II types are a cultural belt centered
around the western part of Gyeongnam and can be said to show the actual
residential lifestyle of that period. As explained above, the oval-shaped
residences are the unique residential lifestyles concentrated on the western part
of Gyeongnam during the period mentioned and I believe that there is a high
possibility that it represents the Gaya residential culture subjected to oval shaped
residences.
