律呂로서의 詠歌舞蹈의 心身治癒에 관한 硏究 (A Study on Younggamudo(詠歌舞蹈), Chanting Dance Meditation)

초록

본 논문은 詠歌舞蹈의 사상적 연원과 수행방법, 그리고 현대적 전개와 전망을 조명한 글이다. 영가무도는 正易을 지은 金恒(1826-1898)이직접 수련한 것으로부터 비롯되었다. 정역사상과 영가무도는 김항의 철학을 이해하는 두 가지의 핵심 축이다.
정역사상이 의도한 중요한 목적의 하나는 인간의 가치의식을 전환시키는 것이라면, 영가무도는 인간본성을 회복하는 수행론이다. 영가무도의 특징은 천지부모와 하나 되는 마음으로 宮商角徵羽의 發聲法으로 노래부르고 춤추는 매우 간단한 수행법으로 누구나 쉽게 접근할 수 있는장점이 있다.
영가무도는 기본적으로 五行과 五臟에 배당된 5음(궁ㆍ상ㆍ각ㆍ치ㆍ우)의 소리인 ‘吟ㆍ哦ㆍ唹ㆍ咿ㆍ吽’의 다섯 가지 소리를 돌아가면서 느린 속도로 소리를 내고 점차 빠르게 손과 발을 움직여 자연스러운 동작까지 이어지는 수련 방법이다. 그렇다고 해도 영가무도는 단순한 놀이의유희가 아니라 일종의 天人合一을 위한 심신단련법이다.
특별한 가사나 언어가 필요 없는 ‘詠歌’는 사람의 마음을 조화롭게 하는 인류공통 음악이라 할 수 있다. ‘舞蹈’는 흩어지고 분열된 인간의 마음과 몸을 하나로 모으는 역동적인 춤이다. 영가무도는 마음의 상태와우주의 율동상을 조화시키는 동작으로서 모든 사람에게 개방된 평등의수행인 것이다. 영가무도는 생명의 율동상을 본받아 몸소 실천궁행하여인간의 실존적 삶의 방식으로 삼는다는 것으로 요약할 수 있다.
김항에 의해 새롭게 창안된 영가무도는 새로운 음양오행론과 율려관에 근거한 수행론이다. 하늘의 몸짓인 율려를 바탕으로 자연과 사람이한데 어울리는 영가무도의 기상은 한국춤의 독창성을 돋보이게 하는 개방형 예술이다. 극도로 양극화된 사회, 대화의 단절의 어려움을 겪고 있는 인류가 원활한 소통으로 함께 같이 살아갈 수 있는 대안이 영가무도에 있다.
현대를 살아가는 우리의 몸과 마음은 너무나 분주하고 복잡하다. 단순하고 평화로운 삶은 자취를 감추고, 마음은 외적 조건과 환경에 끊임없이 마모되며 휘둘린다. 그리하여 심신은 황폐화되고, 사회 질서가 무너진지 오래다. 영가무도는 생명의 율동상을 본받아 몸소 실천궁행하여 인간의 실존적 삶의 방식으로 삼는 것이다.
그렇다고 본 연구가 영가무도의 실체를 모두 드러냈다고 할 수 없다.
필자는 지금 전국에 흩어져 있는 영가무도들을 수집하고, 그 특성들을분석 종합하여 재현하는 일이 가장 시급한 과제라고 제안한다. 이러한작업에 발맞추어 영가무도의 원형을 되살려 보존하는 일은 더욱 중요하다. 영가무도는 이론의 영역이 아니라, 노래부르고 춤추는 실제상황이기때문이다. 영가무도의 전모를 밝히기 위해서는 정역의 현대적인 해석과적용에 관한 연구를 비롯하여 수련법으로서의 영가무도의 프로그램 개발과 그 효과 및 성과에 대한 연구, 대체의학의 가능성과 대중화 방안에대한 모색, 마지막으로 김항의 꿈인 360일 정역세상에 의한 琉璃世界의건설에 관한 연구 등이 뒤따라야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This dissertation discusses the theoretical origin of Yeonggamudo(詠歌舞蹈)-chanting-dance meditation-and the method to practice with it, in addition to its modern development and prospects. Yeonggamudo is based on the meditation practiced by Hang Gim(金恒, 1826-1898) who is the author of The Right Change. The theory in The Right Change and Yeonggamudo are two wings to reach understanding the philosophy of Hang Gim.
If transformation of human’s spiritual value is one of important purposes that the theory of Right Change intended, Yeonggamudo is the theory that insists on restoring human’s true nature. However, Yeonggamudo suggests a very simple and easy to follow meditation that allows one to chant “gung, sang, gak, chi, wu” with the distinctive vocalization and the mind set of becoming one with heaven and earth parents.
Yeonggamudo meditation is basically chanting “gung, sang, gak, chi, wu”which represents five elements in nature and the five viscera in human body. The meditation starts with slow chanting and as it progresses one gradually moves his hands and feet rapidly and then eventually the naturalmotion follows later. Yeonggamudo is not an entertainment to pursue mere amusement but it is the training to cultivate one’s mind and body to become one with heaven.
‘Youngga’ is the paramount and universal song that harmonizes human mind and transcends all lyrics or languages. ‘Mudo’ is the dynamic dance that makes dispersed human body and mind become united.
Yeonggamudo recreated by Hang Gim is the theory of meditation that was rooted in newly reinterpreted principle of yinyang & five elements and the theory of yulleo. The spirit of Yeonggamudo is to unite nature and human being based on yulleo, the motion of heaven, and is the open art that enhances the originality of traditional Korean dance.
People in modern society are exceedingly preoccupied with their own matters and have severely complicated life both physically and psychologically. Simplicity and tranquility have long been disappeared from their lives, resulting in worn out and confused mind by external conditions. Yeonggamudo can be summarized as the way of existential human life that can be accomplished by resembling rhythmic movement of life.
It cannot be said that this dissertation has unveiled the true nature of Yeonggamudo completely. I insist that analyzing and gathering the characteristics of Yeonggamudo sects and reproducing them is the most urgent task. Keeping pace with such tasks, since Yeonggamudo cannot be just understood as a theory but rather a practical chanting-dance meditation, it is even more essential to restore the original form of Yeonggamudo and preserve it. To give the entire picture of Yeonggamudo, it is required to put efforts on modern interpretation and application of the Right Change, developing a Yeonggamudo program as a way of meditationand proving its effectiveness and achievements, seeking the potential of alternative medicine and its popularization followed by the endeavor to realize Hang Gim’s dream that is to establish the paradise of splendor and brilliance (琉璃世界) in accordance with the theory in The Right Change which embraces the understanding of 360 days a year.
