Literature Review on the Potential Hazards of Heavy Metals and Other Substances Contained in Permanent Tattoo Colorant

초록

This study analyzed scientific reports and articles from well-known journals, related reviews and research publications in PubMed and Google Scholar from 1990 to 2024, and compiled the available research literature using Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed databases. Keywords such as Permanent tattoo dyes, Metallic pigments, Solvents, Additives, Heavy metal hazards were used in the search for publications. As permanent tattoos become more common, millions of people around the world are receiving permanent tattoos. permanent tattoo colorant consists of metallic pigments that have the potential to cause allergic contact dermatitis. As permanent tattoos have grown in popularity around the world over the past few decades, many people are taking the risk and getting permanent tattoos. Permanent tattooing is characterized by using multiple needles to insert exogenous pigment into the dermal layer. Colorants are made by piercing the skin with needles of a specific shape and thickness, soaking the colorant and depositing it into the dermis. Colorants (pigments or dyes) often contain impurities that can cause side effects. permanent tattoo colorant is known to remain on the skin for a lifetime. It is also true that the chemicals used in permanent colorants can stay in the body for long periods of time, which increases the long-term risk of introducing harmful ingredients into the body. permanent tattoos and pigments contain a variety of substances, the main and decomposed components of which may cause health risks and unwanted side effects on the skin. permanent tattoos are performed for a variety of reasons, including and sometimes to hide scars. However, permanent tattoo colorant contains heavy metals that are potentially toxic. Heavy metals can accumulate in the body with prolonged exposure. Most of them, including Pb, Cd, Hg, As and Sb, are carcinogenic, allergenic, neurotoxic, teratogenic and mutagenic, causing hair loss and other cosmetic problems. Despite numerous studies around the world to determine safe levels of heavy metals, most consumers do not have sufficient knowledge about the risks involved. This paper addresses the risks of solvents and additives contained in permanent tattoos. improves understanding of the harmful effects of heavy metals on the human body when receiving permanent tattoos. This paper focuses on issues related to this practice.
