초록

이 글은 ‘동맹’의 프레임이 대한민국의 ‘갈등하는 (국민)국가성’을 어떻게 억압ㆍ은폐하고 치환ㆍ전이하게 되었는지를 설명하고자 했다. ‘동맹’의 프레임은 1949년 3월에 제기된 태평양동맹 결성의 움직임 속에서 배태되었다. 태평양동맹은 그 실패와 좌절을 예비한 채 대한민국의 지배엘리트들에 의해 반복적으로 연기/수행됨으로써 (동)아시아 및 대한민국을 전 세계적인 냉전질서의 일부로 편입시키고자 하는 행위주체(agent)의 적극적인 의지를 보여주었다. 대서양동맹의 아시아판으로서 이 태평양동맹의 실현되지 않은 ‘가상’적 효력은 대한민국의 반공블록화를 목표로, 공산주의와의 대결과 투쟁의 사상전의 일부로서 제창된 ‘일민’주의 및 ‘일민’주의문학과 동시적으로 대한민국을 반공국가화하는 데 일조하게 된다.
이승만에 의해 1949년 4월에 본격적으로 제기된 ‘일민’주의는 민주주의와 공산주의간의 대결과 투쟁이라는 사상전의 성격을 띠고 대한민국의 국가이념으로서 명시되었다. ‘일민’주의의 이 전투적 민주주의성에 힘입어 대한민국은 민주주의의 보루로서 위치 변환될 수 있었으며, 이 과정에서 ‘일민’주의문학이 그 모습을 드러내게 된다. ‘타공’을 목표로 한 이 일민’주의문학은 대한민국을 반공블록화하고자 했던 태평양‘동맹’의 프레임과 상호 길항하며 대한민국을 반공－타공－멸공의 증대된 적대성이 일상화된 반공국가로서 정위시키게 된다. 이런 점에서 반공국가로서 대한민국의 위상은 태평양‘동맹’의 프레임과 별개로 존재했던 것이 아니라 이 태평양‘동맹’의 프레임을 관통하여 이루어진 사회역사적 산물이었음을 이 글은 밝히고 있다.

영어초록

This study sought to explain how the confederation framework suppressed and concealed Korea’s conflicting (nation) nationality and replaced and transformed it. The confederation framework was conceived in the Pacific confederation movement proposed in March 1949. The Pacific confederation, along with its looming failure and frustration, was practiced/performed by South Korea’s elites, thus showing the positive determination of the agent to incorporate (East) Asia and South Korea into the world cold war order. The unrealized hypothetical effect of this Pacific confederation as the Asian version of the Atlantic confederation aimed to turn South Korea into an anti-communist bloc, contributing to turning the country into an anti-communist nation along with the one-nation thought proclaimed as a part of warfare of thought involving confrontation and struggle with communism as well as one-nation-oriented literature.
The one-nation thought proposed by Rhee Syngman in April 1949 pursued a thought warfare of confrontation and struggle between democracy and communism, thus proclaiming itself as the national ideology of South Korea. South Korea, with the backing of the combative democracy of one-nation thought, could transform itself into a stronghold of democracy, and in this process, the one-nation-oriented literature appeared. The one-nation-oriented literature, which targeted the overthrow of communism, competed with the framework of the Pacific confederation that sought to turn South Korea into a communist bloc, positioned South Korea as an anti-communist nation with expanded hostility of anti-communism, overthrow of communism and destruction of communism. In this respect, the profile of South Korea as an anti-communist nation, existed not separately from the Pacific confederation framework, but a social and historical product of more than such a framework.
