巍巖 李柬의 未發說에 대한 精神醫學的 解析 -Freud와 Jung의 이론을 중심으로- (A Psychiatric Interpretation on the 'Theory of Arousal before the Mind' of Oiam Yi Gan -Focusing on the theories of Freud and Jung-)

초록

성리학의 미발에 대한 연구는 많은 성과를 이루었다. 그러나 대부분의 연구가 성리학적 틀 안에서 이루어져서 그 한계점을 보여주고 있는 것이 현실이다. 그래서 본 논문은 성리학적 틀 밖의 새로운 틀 즉, 정신의학적 패러다임을 사용하여 미발에 대한 재해석을 하려는 것이 목적이다. 이러한 연구는 미발에 대한 보다 넓고 깊은 이해의 장을 여는데 도움이 될 것으로 생각하기 때문이다.
그래서 우선 정신의학적으로 미발을 어떻게 규정할 수 있는지를 생물학적, 인지적, 역동적, 콤플렉스 관점으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 그 결과 크게 미발을 무의식으로, 이발을 의식으로 대비해 볼 수 있음을 알았다.
그리고 외암은 미발론에 있어서 기존의 성리학자와는 다른 독창적인 이론을 전개하였는데, 그는 미발을 부중저미발과 대본저미발로 구분을 한다. 전자의 부중저미발은 氣拘欲蔽하는 것으로 범인들의 마음을 나타내는데, 이는 프로이드의 무의식과 융의 개인 무의식에 해당하는 것으로 볼 수 있고, 후자의 대본저미발은 성인 마음으로 기질의 제약을 받지 않고 본성 그대로를 발현하는 것으로 프로이드의 무의식의 의식화 그리고 융의 자기실현 혹은 개성화와 비교될 수 있음을 살펴보았다. 또 기질은 미발과 이발을 통하여 항상 본성에 영향을 준다고 하는 관점은 프로이드와 융 무의식의 역동성과 같은 이치임을 살펴보았다.
결론에서는 심리학과 비교하여 성리학의 강점과 약점에 대해서 살펴보는 것으로 하였다.

영어초록

The studies on 'before the mind is aroused' in Neo-Confucianism have made substantial outcomes. However, most of studies are established within the frame of Neo-Confucianism that it displays certain limitations. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to undertake the re-interpretation on 'before the mind is aroused' by using the new frame outside of the Neo-Confucianism frame, namely, the psychiatric paradigm. This study is considered as to be of help in opening up the broader and deeper understanding on 'before the mind is aroused'.
Therefore, the issue of how to define 'before the mind is aroused' in psychiatric aspect is divided into biological, cognitive, dynamic and complex points of view. As a result, 'before the mind is aroused' can largely be analyzed with unconsciousness while 'after arousal' is analyzed with consciousness.
And, in the theory of arousal before the mind, Oiam undertook independent theory that is different from other Neo-Confucianism scholars. He classified 'before the mind is aroused' with the shallow meaning of 'before the mind is aroused' and the profound meaning of 'before the mind is aroused'. The former, shallow meaning of 'before the mind is aroused', is to bind by the temperament and conceal by the desire that is displayed in the mind of ordinary people which is applicable to the unconsciousness of Freud and the individual unconsciousness of Jung while the later, profound meaning of 'before the mind is aroused', is the manifestation of the true nature in adult mind without the restriction of temperament that can be compared to the conscious change of unconsciousness by Freud and the self-realization or personification of Jung. Also, the point of view that the temperament would influence on true nature through 'before the mind is aroused' and after arousal as the same principle of dynamics of unconsciousness of Freud and Jung.
In conclusion, it compares with the psychology to take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of Neo-Confucianism.
