초록

이 연구에서는 목판木板에 나타나는 정보들을 확인하고 향후 문헌 연구 방법의보완으로서 목판 정보의 구축 필요성을 제시하였다. 그 동안 문헌 연구에서는 인출印出된 이후의 서책書冊에 반영된 정보만이 주로 다루어졌는데, 이는 연구자들이 직접 목판을 살필 수 있는 접근성이 제한되어 있었기 때문이다. 실제 목판을 조사할 수 있는 경험이 축적된 인력은 소수이며 따라서 목판의 정보는 면밀히 파악될 수 없었다. 그리고 서책을 통해서는 파악하지 못하는 다양한 정보가 목판에 반영되어 있다는 사실을 알고 있으면서도 메타정보로서의 중요성은 부각되지 못하였다. 목판에는 서책을 통해 파악할 수 있는 저자著者, 간기刊記 등의 정보와 판면版面에 수록된 광곽匡郭, 판심版心, 어미魚尾 등의 정보 이외에도 규격, 마구리, 묵서墨書, 상감象嵌 등에서 파악할 수 있는 여러 정보들이 수록되어 있다.
이 연구에서는 전국에 산재한 목판을 전수조사하고 DB화를 위한 기초자료의 확보를 위해 한국국학진흥원에서 실시하고 있는 전국목판조사사업의 일환으로 2013년에 진행된 대전 충남지역 목판 조사 사업-남간정사 소장 목판 조사를 통해 드러난 목판 정보를 주요 대상으로 하였다. 전수 조사를 통해 확인된 남간정사 소장 목판은 소장 정보가 알려진『송자대전宋子大全』4,484판 이외에도 18세기초에 판각된『정서분류程書分類』403판과『소학집주小學集註』1판,『원주원씨세보原 州元氏世譜』1판 등 4종, 총 4,889판이다.
남간정사 목판은 방대한 분량에 걸맞은 다양한 목판 정보들이 확인된다. 권차卷 次와 장차張次가 동일한 목판, 다수의 파기 목판, 상감 등이 확인되며 이를 통해간행 정보를 비롯한 내용의 수정 이유와 과정을 알 수 있는 목판만이 지니는중요한 정보를 보여주고 있다. 또한 두주頭註의 형태, 권별 규격의 급격한 차이등을 통해 판각 장소에 대한 정보를 파악할 수 있다. 그리고 마구리와 판면에기록된 묵서墨書에 판각처와 각수명이 기록되어 있으며, 판면에 인출되지 않는각수刻手의 이름으로 추정되는 음각陰刻 명문銘文도 다수 확인되었다. 특히 판면에양각陽刻된 담간인擔刊人과 관련한 내용은 인출이 되어야 함에도 불구하고 실제서적에서는 나타나지 않는 특이한 점도 발견되었다.
향후 이 연구를 바탕으로 서지書誌 중심으로 이루어졌던 목판 연구의 외연을넓히는데 기여하고, 특히 한글 문헌의 간행과 판본板本 비교의 정밀한 고찰에도일조할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영어초록

This study aims to identify information on woodblocks (木板) and suggest the importance of establishing woodblock information as a supplementary method for literature review in the future.
Up until now, literature reviews have mainly dealt with information reflected in printed (印出) books (書冊), because access to examine woodblocks in person has been limited to researchers. In fact, it has been difficult to examine woodblock information closely because few researchers have sufficient experience in investigating them. Although we are aware that various pieces of information, which cannot be identified from printed books, are included in woodblocks, their importance as meta-information has not been highlighted. Woodblocks include not only information identified from printed books such as author name (著者), publication records (刊記), or records on the woodblock surface (版面) such as a black outline (匡郭), center fold (版心), and fish tail (魚尾), which indicate the book name and page number, but also various other pieces of information identified from di mensions, wood butt ends, ink writings (墨書), and bog-wood (象嵌).
This study examined the woodblock information revealed by the Woodblock Research Project in Daejun and South Chungcheong Province: Investigation of Woodblocks in Namgan Jeongsa, which was conducted in 2013 as part of the Korean Studies Institute’s Nationwide Woodblock Research Project to examine all woodblocks across the country and establish basic references for a database. The investigation identified a total of four types of books and 4, 889 woodblocks collected in Namgan Jeongsa: 4, 484 woodblocks of Songjadaejeon, which is believed to be kept in Namgan Jeongsa, 403 of Jeongseobullyu (程書分類), which was engraved in the early 18th century, 1 of Sohakjipju (小學集註), and 1 of Wonjuwonssisebo (原州元氏世譜). Various pieces of woodblock information are identified from woodblocks in Namgan Jeongsa commensurate with its vast collection. Woodblocks with identical volume order (卷次) and page order (張次), multiple discarded (破棄) woodblocks, and bog-wood (象嵌) have been found, revealing important information that allows us to know not only why and how revisions were made but also their publication (刊行) information. In addition, the type of headnote (頭註) and drastic differences in dimensions across volumes allow us to identify where the woodblocks were engraved. Ink writings (墨書) on wood butt ends or the woodblock surface record the place of the woodblock’s engraving and the engraver’s name. This study identified multiple intaglio (陰刻) inscriptions (銘文), which are believed to indicate the names of engravers(刻手) that were not printed on pages. More notably, it was of particular interest that relief (陽刻) publisher (擔刊人) inscriptions on the woodblock surface, which should have been printed, were not in dicated in printed books.
In the future, this study is expected to contribute to expanding the scope of woodblock studies, which have been mainly oriented toward printed books (書誌) and closely comparing printed Korean language publications and woodblock versions (板本), which have not been sorted out so far.
