초록

본고에서 논의하고자 하는 일기는 조선 중기 사대부들이 기록으로 남긴 개인 일기이다. 조선 중기 사대부들의 일기문학을 이해하기 위해서는 이들이 쓴 일기를 통해 기록정신을 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 그러므로 필자는 조선 중기 사대부들이 쓴 일기를 통해 그들의 기록정신을 구명하였다. 이를 위해 기록물로서의 일기의 의의와 기술태도에 초점을 맞추어 기록물로서의 일기의 의의에서는 시대의 증언과 진솔한 자기고백, 기술태도에서는 춘추필법의 계승과 정확한 기록 순으로 살펴보았다. 본고에서 논의한 사항들을 종합하여 결론으로 삼으면 다음과 같다.
시대의 증언은 전쟁의 참상이나 현실사회의 부조리 등을 기록자가 직접 보거나 체험을 통해 기록으로 남기고 있는데, 이러한 기록들은 듣고 기록한 기록물들과는 사실성이나 진실성 등에서 그 차원이 다르다. 특히 조선 중기 사대부들은 전쟁일기를 통해 전쟁의 참상을 증언하고 있는데, 이는 다른 여타의 일기에서는 보기 힘든 그 시대의 증언이라 하겠다. 그런바 시대의 증언에서 기록물로서의 일기의 의의와 함께 조선 중기 사대부들의 기록정신을 엿볼 수 있다.
진솔한 자기고백은 주로 일상생활에서 겪었던 일들을 통해 표출되고 있다. 이 같은 진솔한 자기고백의 기록 자세에서 기록물로서의 일기의 의의와 함께 조선 중기 사대부들의 기록정신의 일면을 엿볼 수 있다. 특히 조선 중기 사대부 가운데 유희춘의 『미암일기』를 주목할 필요가 있다. 유희춘은 『미암일기』를 통해 한 점의 거짓도 없이 진솔 되게 자신을 고백하고 있는바, 그는 체면이나 격식을 따지는 당시의 사대부들과는 격이 다른 인물이었다. 조선 중기 사대부 중 일기에 적나라하게 자기 자신을 고백한 가장 대표적인 사대부는 유희춘이다.
춘추필법의 계승은 주로 역사적 사실이나 정치적 사건 등을 기술할 때 나타난다. 보고 들은 역사적 사실이나 정치적 사건 등에 대하여 가식 없는 역사기술과 함께 진실을 구명하고자 하는 조선 중기 사대부들의 기술태도, 이는 춘추필법의 기록정신을 계승한 것이다. 특히 유희춘의 『미암일기』는 그런 점에서 높이 평가된다.
정확한 기록은 보고 들은 공적 사실이나 사적 사실, 체험 등에서 엿볼 수 있다. 이 같은 정확한 기록을 통해 조선 중기 사대부들의 기술태도와 기록정신의 일면을 감지할 수 있다. 특히 유희춘의 『미암일기』는 기록의 철저성과 정확성 등에서 그 가치가 높이 평가된다. 조선 중기 사대부 가운데 정확한 기록을 일기에 남긴 대표적 인물은 유희춘이다.
이상의 논의를 통해 일기를 통해본 조선 중기 사대부들의 기록정신을 파악할 수 있었다. 이는 조선 중기 사대부들의 일기문학과 조선시대의 일기문학을 이해하는데도 도움이 되는바 의의가 있다.

영어초록

The diaries that will be discussed in this paper are the personal diaries written by the nobility in the middle era of Joseon. To understand the literary works of the nobility in the middle era of Joseon, it is necessary to look into their writing spirit revealed in their diaries. Therefore, this study cleared up their writing spirit by looking into the diaries written by the nobility in the era. In order for this, focusing on the importance of diaries as records and their writing attitude, the study first looked into testimony of the era and sincere self-confession to clarify the importance of diaries as records, and then, succession of confusion way of criticism and accurate recording to see their writing attitude. The results of the issues discussed in this study are as follows.
As for the testimony of the era, the authors were recording the terrible scenes of wars or irrationalities of the !society they had directly seen or experienced, and those records reveals far differences in its reality and honesty from other records written from reported information. Especially the nobility of the middle era of Joseon are testifying the miseries of wars, and those are considered as the testimonies of the era that are hardly found from any other diaries. From this, together with the importance of diaries as records, we can get a sense of the writing spirit of the nobility in the middle era of Joseon.
The sincere self-confessions are displayed through their experiences in everyday life. From their writing attitudes of sincere self-confession, it could be observed that the importance of the diaries as records and the aspects of the writing spirit of the nobility. In this sense, 『Miamilgi』by Yoo, Hui-Chun is one of the works we need to pay attention amongst the diaries written by the nobility in the middle era of Joseon. Yoo, Hui-Chun, through 『Miamilgi』, is confessing himself without any dishonesty, and he was different from other noblemen who respect honors and formality. He is the one who most frankly confessed himself in his diary amongst the nobility in the middle era of Joseon.
The succession of the confusion way of criticism could be observed when writing about historical phenomena or political affairs. The writting attitude of the nobility in the middle era or Joseon seeking for the truth together with honest recordings about the historical phenomena and political affairs they had seen and heard shows their succession of writing spirit of the confusion way of criticism. Especially, 『Miamilgi』by Yoo, Hui Chun is highly esteemed in that sense.
Accurate recording could be examined through the public facts and personal facts and experiences. Through the accurate recordings, the study could observe one side of writing attitude and writing spirit of the nobility in the middle era of Joseon. Especially, 『Miamilgi』 by Yoo, Hui-Chun is highly esteemed in its thoroughness and accuracy. He was the one who left most accurate recordings in personal diary amongst the nobility of that era.
From above arguments, the study could examine writing spirit of the nobility in the middle era of Joseon revealed on their diaries. This work has a great significance in that it could be helpful in understanding not only the diary literatures of the nobility in the middle era of Joseon but also the diary literature of the entire Joseon era.
