젠더-계급 상호성을 통해 본 신빈곤층 십대여성의 젠더 역할 연구 (Research for Gender Role of Girls in New Family Poverty through Gender-Class Perspective)

초록

한국사회에서 외환위기 이후 급속도로 진행되고 있는 신자유주의 흐름은 이전의물적/규범적 토대를 변화시키는 요인이 되고 있다. 그리고 이 과정에서 새롭게 등장하고 있는 신빈곤층 내의 젠더 역할에 대한 설명은 이 계급의 물적/문화적 조건과의 관계 속에서 설명될 필요가 있다고 보여진다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 계급적 차이를 젠더분석에 도입하여 설명을 하기 위해 '젠더 보상체계'라는 개념을 사용하여 신빈곤층 범주의 젠더 역할을 탐구하였다.
신빈곤층이 기반하고 있는 신자유주의 개별 노동자 모델 그리고 개인주의화와 전망상실이 결합한 비유예문화는 이 범주의 젠더 작동을 기존의 전통적인 방식과 다르게 만드는 토대로 볼 수 있다.
이러한 물적/문화적 배경을 기반으로 한 신빈곤층 가족은 성역할에 기반 한 가족중심주의가 가족 구성원들에게 물적/규범적 보상으로 작동하기 어려운 상황에 놓이고있다. 남성들은 성별분업에 기반한 공적 자본의 대리인 기능을 상실해 가고 있고 여성들의 모성은 가족 이외의 다른 관계와 일자리들 사이에서 상황적, 선택적 역할로 이동되고 있다. 이러한 가족을 배경으로 한 신빈곤층 십대여성은 자본과의 관계에서 위계화 되고 있는 남성의 현실에 대한 간파와 함께 남성을 매개로 하지 않은 자본과 자신사이의 직접적 관계를 설정해 나가기 시작한다. 또한 변화하고 있는 고용시장, 학력의의미가 이들의 비유예/비훈육적 문화와 결합하면서 신빈곤층 십대들에게 성산업은 이전과는 다른 방식의 의미를 갖기 시작 하는데, 이는 성산업과 비성산업 사이에 뚜렷한구분과 명확한 위계가 설정되어야 할 필요성을 흐리게 만드는 조건이 되고 있다.

영어초록

The stream of neo-liberalism has brought much change in the Korean society since 1990s, among which new poverty is one of the most prominent characteristics. This research aims to examine the gender roles of teenaged girls in new family poverty from the intersectional perspective of gender and class. The new poverty is anchored in an individualized labour supply model, an individualistic culture and market-consumerism. The individualized labour supply model has made big entrance of women and youth toward the labour market. In this process, a lot of women have experienced a collision between family-centrism based on gender division of the labour and other ways of life. They have deconstructed the model of femininity by taking over the role of male-breadwinner and yet constructed a direct relationship with society and capitalism. Accordingly, the new family poverty contributed to the deconstruction of family wage system at work and the division of gender roles in the home. Men cannot play the traditional role of breadwinner any longer and women are necessarily to gain jobs, from which teenaged girls are socialized according to the de-gendered roles. Due to instability of new family poverty, adolescent girls cannot receive proper care within their family. That is why they find another network of peer groups outside through internet and more than often they are linked with sexual industry. This meets with the demands of men who want to buy the body and femininity of young girls.
Through such exchanges, the girls can make money without any mediation with their parents. Neo-liberalism highlights that the class status of individuals is the most important capital and individual competition is based on one's class status naturally given. The individualistic culture of neo-liberalism has made culture visionless. It is difficult for underclass people to have prospects or hope for the future in the era of neo-liberalism. Education lost its function of class mobility. In this context, the meanings of sexual industry and the exchange of body have changed. Girls in low-income families do not have motivation of discipline by a double standard norm for sexuality. The culture of 'non-delay' and 'non-discipline' of new poverty teenaged girls is remaking a system of meanings about the double norm of sexuality between men and women. In sum, the teenaged girls have showed the following attitudes to gender roles. First, they gain direct access to society without men's mediation. Second, they make a new system of meanings about the sexual dichotomy of women. Under the condition of the unstable labour market, distinctions between sexual industry and non-sexual industry have been obscure. In accordance with it, they have lost the motivation to be disciplined.
