지젝의 기독교 비평연구: ‘사신(死神)’신학에서 ‘초혼(招魂)’신학으로 (A Critical Review of Zizek’s Christianity: From the Death of God Theology to the Invocation of God Theology)

초록

이 논문은 슬라보이 지젝의 기독교 비평 연구를 통해 실천 신학의 또 다른 유형을 모색하고 유물론적 신학의 현대적 의미를 찾아보는데 있다. 세계적인 철학자요, 문화비평가, 실천 이론가이면서 스스로 유물론적 신학자로 자처하는 지젝은 다양한 저술활동을 통해 신 죽음의 신학을 유물론적 관점에서 재해석하며 자본주의와 신자유주의의 물결 속에 새로운 혁명의 신학으로 ‘이웃’의 신학을 제시한다. 그가 강조하는 급진적 실천신학의 진원은 헤겔과 쉘링이 제시한 신의 자아응축을 통한 변증법적 사유와 함께 케노시스의 사신 신학으로 연결될 수 있다. 또한 그는 그리스도의 십자가 사건을 ‘진리-사건’으로 규정하며 완벽한 신의 죽음으로 탄생되는 유물론적 성령개념을 강조한다. 지젝은 정통적인 신 개념을 뒤틀어 자신이 고안한 ‘실재계’의 균열 지점으로 이동시킴으로서 연약하고 불완전한 신의 개념 속에서 새로운 구원의 가능성이 탄생됨을 제시한다. 이 글에서 다루고자 하는 주된 신학적 논지는 지젝이 어떠한 개념 체계를 바탕으로 정통신학과 유물론적 신학을 병렬시키며 자신의 고유한 신 개념과 그리스도의 죽음 해석을 ‘신학화’ 시켜 나가는지 살펴보는데 있다. 또한 지젝의 유물론적 신학을 ‘사신신학’ 혹은 ‘신 죽음’ 신학과 대화해 봄으로서 신학적 유사점과 차이점을 비교 분석한다. 이와 함께 그가 강조하는 신의 죽음으로 탄생되는 ‘성령’ 개념이 어떻게 그가 주장하는 새로운 혁명의 주체인 ‘이웃’의 개념과 만나 실천 신학의 초월적 기표를 형성하게 되는지 살펴봄으로서 지젝이 강조하는 신학적 함축성과 한국적 상황에서 급진적 실천 신학의 가능성을 재고해 보고자 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to ultimately explore the possibility of another type of ‘doing theology’ by examining Zizek’s practice of a material theology, and to understand his theological implications for a contemporary theological discourse. For Zizek, G. W. F. Hegel is most important thinker in formulating Zizek style of philosophical argument, specifically, the basic three-part structure of the ‘negation of negation’ which is pervasive in Zizek’s writings. Zizek basically employs the concept tool from Lancan’s language-the Imagine, Symbolic, and Real order to reconstruct his own theological concept of the death of God. For Zizek, the Real represents the evasive remainder that the symbolic order can never ‘catch’ and contain in its attempt to ground the social reality. The ideological fantasy that underlies our social reality is a necessarily failed attempt simultaneously to contain and to evade the traumatic antagonism of the Real. Zizek draws between the structure of the dialectics and the underlying logic of the concept of the Real in order to eliminate the fantasy of the ‘big Other.’Zizek develops his theory of subjectivity in relation to the notions of ‘divine madness,’ ‘death drive,’ ‘ex-timacy,’ ‘vanishing mediator,’ ‘nothingness,’ and Schilling’s concept of ‘God’s self-renouncement. The issue of God’s subjectivity is discussed with the theology of kenosis drawing out the parallels between Zizek’s theological perspective and those of the most important theologians of the twentieth century: Thomas J.J. Altizer and J. Motmann. Zizek’s interpretation on Christ and cross-event comes to be a decisive shift to create a material pneumatology-that is the Holy Spirit as sociality and communitarian revolutionary acts-and paradoxical ethical teachings. Zizek argues with the fascination of ‘subverting’ an existing social order or ideological order and a turn to the question of how a social order is founded in the first place. Zizek’s theology focuses on the ‘material messianism’ by practicing the ‘politics of refusal’ which allows him to envision a new form of collectivity that would non-identically repeat the ‘Holy Spirit’ that flowed out of the death of God on the cross. However, Zizek’s theology is in a process of creative transition from the death of God theology towards the theology of invocation that calls out the spirit of God among the revolutionary movement of the unplugged but spirit-filled community of the ‘neighbor.’
