신석기시대 남부내륙지역 취락 연구 (Research on the Settlements of the Southern Inland Areas in the Neolithic Period)

초록

신석기시대 취락에 대해서는 근년 조사 증가에 의해 연구가 진전되어 왔으나, 아직 취락 전체를 파악할수 있는 유적은 적은 편이다. 따라서 연구도 중국·일본의 예를 모델로 하여 우리나라 신석기시대 취락을 파악하고자 하는 경향과 우리나라 유적에서 나타나는 유구의 조합으로 취락을 해석하고자 하는 경향이 있다. 따라서 본문에서는 남부내륙지역의 취락유적을 살펴본 다음, 취락구조를 잘 알 수 있는 중국의 姜寨유적과 비교 검토해 남부내륙지역의 취락유적 특징에 대해 살펴보았다.
이번 분석 결과를 토대로 보면, 적어도 남부내륙지역의 취락유적에서는 강채유적과는 달리, 광장이나공적인 시설 등은 확인되지 않았으며 주거 배치에 있어서도 취락 내부의 규제나 규칙 등은 확인할 수없었다. 그리고 취락을 구성하는 사회조직에 있어서는 각 주거에 노지가 존재하는 것으로 의·식·주의한 단위를 이루고 있으나, 기초단위로 그룹화할 수 있는 예는 찾아볼 수 없다. 그러나 중기 송죽리·상촌리유적, 후기의 상촌리·봉계리유적에서는 10기 내외의 주거로 구성된 주거군이 형성되어 있는 것을확인할 수 있다. 따라서 남부내륙지역의 취락은 시기에 관계없이 주거가 기초가 되어 주거군을 이루며그 주거군이 취락을 형성하고 있으며 취락 내부의 강한 규제는 없었던 것으로 판단된다. 그리고 일부유적에서는 토기요와 석축유구의 존재로 보아 생활공간과 생산공간 또는 의례공간으로 분리 배치가 확인되었다. 그러나 후기~말기 취락에서는 유적 범위 확장과 석축유구의 증가, 수혈유구와 야외노지 등의 부속유구 군집화 등으로 보아 중기보다는 취락 내부의 공동체 결속력이나 규제가 어느 정도 존재했을 것으로 파악된다. 또 지좌리유적과 평거동유적과 같이 근거리에 성격이 다른 두 취락의 존재로 전업집단의 출현도 엿볼 수 있었다. 그러나 전업집단의 출현 문제는 한 취락 내에서의 분화인지 두 취락의존재인지에 대해서는 단언할 수 없다.

영어초록

Recently studies on the residential sites of the Neolithic Period have increased in number but it is also true that there are only a limited number of examples in which the residential sites can be examined from a holistic perspective. Therefore, this work mainly focuses on the residential sites of the southern inland area. Comparisons are made with the Jiangzhai (姜寨) site in China in order to analyse the features of these southern inland residential sites of Korea.
Based on the results of the study, it can be said that public areas such as a central plaza, which has been identified at sites such as Jiangzhai, have yet to be uncovered. In addition, it has been difficult to identify the existence of any rules or conditions that would have governed the layout of the residential sites. In terms of social organization, each dwelling may have served the needs for food, clothing and shelter, but it is difficult to find clusters of this basic unit.
However, more than ten sites have been found to feature dwelling clusters, including Songjunk-ri (松竹里) and Sangchon-ri (上村里) for the middle period and Sangchon-ri (上村里) and Bongye-ri (鳳溪里) for the later period.
Therefore, it can be said that the dwelling formed the basic unit of residence regardless of period, and residential sites consisted of clusters of these basic units. In addition, strict conditions regarding residential layout appear to have been absent.
The presence of pottery kilns and stone tool production features at some of the sites suggests that the spatial division of sites into areas for residence and areas for production or ritual ceremony may have occurred. In the later period, cohesion within the community appears to have been existed to a certain extent, given the expanded scale of the sites, the increased number of stone structures, and the clustering of auxiliarly features. Given the presence of two different sites — Jijwa-ri (智佐里) and Pyeongeo-dong (平居洞) — that were closely located, it is possible that specialized production sites may have appeared. It is unclear though whether the specialized production sites had branched off from preexisting residence sites or if they represented an entirely different residential site.
