중도식 주거 문화권의 주거지와 취락 (The Dwelling Sites and Settlement of Chungdo-style Cultural Area)

초록

본 논문은 중도식 주거 문화권의 기초 분석 단위인 개별 주거와 주거군을 이해하기 위해 작성되었는데, 특히 한성기 백제 취락을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 개별 주거에 대한 연구는 취사, 저장, 작업 공간 등 개별 주거 내 활동영역에 대해서 살펴보았는데, 취사 시설이 주거 내 북동쪽에 집중되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 저장 공간의 위치는 주거의 평면 형태와, 취사 시설의 형태, 위치에 따라 일정한 경향성을 보여주지 않지만, 출입부를 제외한 후벽과 서장벽, 동장벽 등 실내의 외곽 공간이 활용되었다. 마지막으로 철기 생산과 같은 작업은 출입부에 가까운 주거 중앙부가 주로 활용되었다.
다음으로 주거군에 대해서 살펴보았는데, 우선 학계 여러 연구자들의 사례 연구를 통해서 주거군이 단위 취락의 하위 개념임을 재확인하였다. 주거군은 일반적으로 공간적 결집 양상으로 파악되지만, 주거군 차원의 취사, 생산, 관리, 소비 행위 등이 전제되어야 한다. 또한 공간적 결집이 주거의 근접성만으로 파악할 경우에는 자의적인 판단이 개입될 소지가 있기 때문에 중도식 주거 분포권의 취락에서 관찰되는 구상유구와 목책을 주거군 단위의 구획 시설로 이해하여 주거지의 공간적 결집 양상과 함께 주거군을 추출하는데 활용하였다.
한성기 백제 취락은 도성을 정점으로 아래에 위계에 따라 편제되었으며, 이와 연동되어 주거군의 양상에서도 차이가 관찰된다. 즉 위계가 높은 취락에서는 기능을 달리하는 주거군들이 포함되어 있는데, 가장 상위의 주거군에서는 철기와 토기 생산에 관여하고 있으며, 하위 주거군에서는 농경의 비중이 높고 각 주거군 간의 기능 차이가 크지 않다.
한편 철기 생산과 관련하여 백제 중앙에서 가까운 지역일수록 읍락 중심촌 이상의 거점 취락에서만 철기 생산이 확인되고 비교적 높은 신분 계층이 철기 생산에 관여하고 있음을 확인하였다. 이와는 달리 원삼국시대 취락과 백제 중앙에서 멀리 떨어진 영서 지역과 임진강 유역에서는 철기 생산이 거점 취락에 독점되지 않으며, 또한 상위 계층에 독점되어 있지 않다. 이는 백제 국가의 형성 이후 백제 중앙의 지배력이 미치는 범위 내에서 철기 생산이 전략적으로 관리, 통제되었음을 의미한다.

영어초록

This paper aimed to understand the separate dwelling site and a group of settlement as a standard unit of analysis of the Chungdo-style dwelling cultural area, especially around the settlement in the Hansung Period of the Baekje Kingdom. This study of the separate dwelling focused on the working areas in the separate dwelling, such as cooking, storage, space of task, and we could find that the arrangements for cooking were gathered in the northern of the dwelling. And the location of storage space depended on the plane form of dwelling, the form of arrangements for cooking and its location, but utilizing the outskirts of the house interior, involving the back, west, east surface of wall, except of the door. Finally, the task, such as ironware production, was conducted in the center of dwelling, nearby door.
This study also explored the group of settlement, and could reaffirm that through the various of case study by many scholars, the term of a group of settlement is a subordinate concept of dwelling site. A group of settlement is understanded generally as the aspect of spatial concentration, but cooking, production, management, consuming practice should be premised in the level of group of settlement. Moreover, since it would make an arbitrary decision if the spatial concentration is only understanded by spatial proximity, gusangyugu and mokchaek, which could be found in the Chungdo-style area of distribution, were utilized to extract the group of settlement with the aspect of spatial concentration of dwelling, understanding them as the facilities of division.
The settlement in the Hansung Period of the Baekje Kingdom represented a maldistribution through hierarchy, from below, around the castle town. The high rank of settlement included the group of settlement that had different function, while the production of ironware and pottery was conducted in the highest rank of group of settlement, in the low rank of it agriculture was of great importance and not much different in their function.
For the production of ironware, in the area that was nearby center of Baekje production of ironware was conducted in the only center town, and the relatively high class was engaged in it. In contrast, the settlement in the Proto-Three Kingdoms period and the distant from center of Baekje, such as Yeongseo region and Im-jin River Basin was not exclusive to ironware production and also did not be monopolized by high class. This suggest that after the formation of Baekje kingdom the ironware production was strategically managed and controlled within the limit of power of the Baekje dynasty.
