상향식 오순절 운동에 대한 변증 (Demonstration of the Upward Pentecostal Movement)

초록

오순절 운동에 대한 해석과 접근 방식에는 다양함이 존재한다. 필자는 본 논문에서 오순절 운동에 대한 해석을 라틴아메리카라는 고유한 컨텍스트를 중심으로 선교와 문화적인 관점 속에서 연구했다. 이 논문을 통해서 상향식 오순절 운동이라는 새로운 개념을 도입함과 동시에 이 개념을 해방신학과 함께 비교하면서 논증했다.
상황신학의 대표적 주자로 해방신학을 꼽을 수 있다. 선교신학자뿐만 아니라 신학의 영역에 있는 모든 학자들도 해방신학의 가치와 이론을 인정한다. 특별히 해방신학은 전통 신학과 비교해서 이론보다는 실천에 우위를 둔다고 볼 수 있다. 필자는 본 논문을 통해서 오순절 성령 운동이 해방신학과 대비해서 볼 때, 라틴아메리카에서 진정한 상황신학은 바로 오순절 성령 운동임을 논증한다. 그리고 이것을 필자는 ‘상향식 오순절 운동’이라 명한다. 그리고 이 상향식 오순절 운동에 대비해서 필자는 해방신학을 ‘하향식 해방신학’이라 칭한다. 왜냐하면 라틴아메리카 민중들이 무엇을 통해서 진정으로 해방과 자유를 느꼈는가? 질문해 보면 그 답을 알 수 있기 때문이다. 해방신학은 대중들이 이해하고 실천하기에는 너무나 어렵고 상황이 그것을 허락하지 아니했다. 이에 반해 오순절 성령 운동은 그렇지 않았다. 라틴아메리카에서 오순절 성령 운동은 그들의 삶 속에서 함께 했다. 이들은 기쁨을 누리고, 기적을 체험하고, 방언으로 기도하며, 그들이 오순절신학은 알지 못해도 오순절 성령 운동 속에서 진정한 자유를 누렸다. 이 오순절 운동이야말로 그들을 라틴아메리카에서 발생한 독특한 상황 속에 있는 억압으로부터, 고통으로부터 자유하게 하고 해방하게 하는 진정한 해방신학이 되었다.
상향식 오순절 운동의 출발점은 대중이라는 아래 계층에서 시작된 것에 반해 하향식 해방 운동의 신학적 근거는 지식인, 상위 계층에서 이루어졌다. 상향식 오순절 운동의 중심은 예수 그리스도이신 데 반해 하향식 해방 운동의 중심에 인간이 있다. 더 나아가서 상향식 오순절 운동은 성령에 의해서 아래에서 위로 올라가는 구도를 가진 반면에 하향식 해방 운동은 사제로부터 즉 위에서 아래로 내려오는 형태를 가졌다. 이러한 두 부류의 해방신학이 라틴아메리카의 교회와 사회에 끼친 영향은 다르게 나타났다. 교회 성장 관점에서 보면 상향식 오순절 운동은 교회 성장에 지대한 영향을 끼친 반면에 해방신학은 그렇지 못했다. 반면에 사회 정의, 평화의 관점에서 보면 해방신학은 라틴아메리카 민주화에 많은 영향을 끼친 반면 오순절 운동은 개인주의와 기복 신앙을 가속화시켰다.
본 논문은 이러한 양면성을 인정하면서 라틴아메리카 개신교회들이 건강한 교회로 성장하며, 하나님 나라를 이루어 가는 데 있어서 중요한 요소가 무엇인지를 함께 고민한다. 특별히 필자는 그 고민에 대한 대답으로 복음주의적 에큐메니칼 성령 운동을 제안한다. 또한 필자는 더 나아가 존 맥케이가 주장한 성숙한 성령 운동과 함께, 그리스도가 중심이 된 신학, 신앙이 지역 사회의 사회적 필요를 채워 주며 좋은 이웃이 되는 온전한 상황화를 주장한다. 상향식 오순절 운동이 성숙한 성령 운동과 함께 온전한 상황화를 추구하면 해방신학과 오순절 성령 운동이 가졌던 단점을 극복하고 건강한 교회를 이루어 가게 되는 것이다.

영어초록

Diversity exists in analysis and approaching method of the Pentecostal Movement. In this thesis, the writer studied the analysis of the Pentecostal Movement in missiological and cultural viewpoint, centering in unique context of Latin America. Through this thesis, the writer also introduced the new term “Upward Pentecostal Movement”, in addition to proving and comparing this term with theology of liberation.
Theology of liberation can be pointed out as the representative of contextual theology. Not only missiological theologist but also the scholars in the area of theology acknowledge the value and the theory of Theology of Liberation. Especially, Theology of Liberation puts predominance in practice than theory, compared to the traditional theology. The writer proves in this thesis that through a side-by-side comparison of Pentecostal Spiritual Movement and the Theology of Liberation, the true contextual theology of Latin America is Pentecostal Spiritual Movement. The writer names this as “Upward Pentecostal Movement”. The writer, furthermore, names the Theology of Liberation as “Downward Theology of Liberation”, since the answer is given by inquiring “With what Latin American people experienced the true liberation and freedom?” Theology of Liberation was challenging for public to comprehend and to practice, and the condition did not permit. In contrast, Pentecostal Spiritual movement was not the same. Pentecostal Spiritual Movement of Latin America existed together in their lives. They delighted, experienced miracles, prayed in other tongues, and experienced the true freedom in Pentecostal Spiritual movement, regardless of their lack of understanding in Pentecostal theology. This Pentecostal Movement became the true theology of liberation which liberates them from the oppression and anguish that surged from peculiar condition of Latin America.
In contrast to the fact that Upward Pentecostal Movement started from populace, which is the lower rank of the society, the theological evidence of Downward Theology of Liberation was achieved in the higher rank. While the center of Upward Pentecostal Theology is Jesus, that of Downward Theology of Liberation is human being. Furthermore, Upward Pentecostal Movement possess the structure that arises by the Holy Spirit, while Downward Theology of Liberation possess the from that descends from the priest. The influence of these two classes of theology of liberation to church and society of Latin America resulted differently. In the aspect of the church growth, Upward Spiritual Movement influenced greatly in the church growth, while the Theology of Liberation did not. However, in the aspect of peace, theology of liberation influenced greatly to the democratization of Latin America, while Pentecostal Movement accelerated egotism and Prosperity.
This thesis ponders what is the crucial element for both the development of Reformed church of Latin America as flourishing church and the fulfillment of God’s World, with still acknowledging those twofoldness. Especially, the writer proposes Evangelistic Ecumenical Spiritual movement as an answer for that consideration. John McKay insists upon the fact that mature Spiritual movement, in addition to Christ-centered theology and belief both fill the social necessity of local society and perfect contextualization of being good neighbor. When Upward Pentecostal Movement pursue the mature Spiritual movement and perfect contextualization, theology of liberation and Pentecostal Spiritual movement can overcome their defects and fulfill the form of flourishing church.
