심훈 시의 개작 양상과 ‘정본’ 확정의 문제 (The issue of Shim Hoon's revision of the poems and confirmation of the ‘original’)

초록

본고는 심훈 시의 개작 양상을 검토하여 ‘정본’ 확정과 관련된 사항들에 대해 논의하고자 했다. 친필원고 『심훈시가집 제1집:1919-1932』를 중심으로 각 시편들의 개작 여부를 검토하기 위해 현재까지 밝혀진 기 발표작의 존재를 확인함과 동시에 ‘시가집’에 수록된 작품이 후에 다른 매체에 발표된 작품들을 정리하였다. 그 결과 개작 여부를 확인할 수 있는 심훈의 시는 총 43편임을 제시했다. 총 43편의 개작시를 대상으로 심훈의 시 개작에 드러나는 특징을 세 가지 차원에서 논의했다. 첫째, 제목의 수정이 이루어진 시편들이 상당수 존재한다는 점, 둘째 행과 연 단위의 삭제 및 수정을 통해 율격의 확보와 형식적 간결함을 추구했다는 점, 그리고 셋째 전면적인 개작을 통해 거의 ‘새로운’ 작품으로 다시 쓴 작품이 존재한다는 점 등이 그것이다.
심훈이 개작한 시편들에 대한 검토는 ‘정본’ 확정과 관련된 복잡한 사항들을 포함한다. 이 문제는 기 발표작을 ‘시가집’에 수록한 작품에서보다 ‘시가집’에만 수록되어 있던 작품을 후에 공식적인 매체에 발표하면서 개작이 이루어진 작품들과 관련된 사항들이다. 특히 시인의 다른 글쓰기인 소설이나 수필에 삽입되면서 개작이 이루어진 경우가 그렇다. 「조선은 술을 먹인다」와 「고루의 삼경」이 대표적이다. 한 시인이 자신의 시를 다른 글쓰기에 삽입-인용하면서 수정한 경우, 특히 문학작품 속에서 이루어진 경우라면 그것은 그 자체로 작품의 맥락과 배치 속에 존재하는 ‘다른 시’로 보아야 할 것이다. 이러한 전제를 고려하면서 본고는 2편의 시의 개작은 시인의 시 자체의 완성도를 꾀하기 위한 최종 개작 작품으로 판단했다. 이는 ‘정본’은 확고부동한 어떤 것이 아니라 더 ‘좋은 작품’으로 만들어 가는 것이라는 관점을 반영한 것이기도 하다.
본고는 심훈 시 개작 양상에 대한 논의 과정을 통해 그간에 심훈 시의 ‘정본’으로 간주되었던 ‘전집’들에서 범하고 있는 제목의 오류를 바로잡았으며, 별개의 작품으로 여겨지던 작품을 개작 관계에 있는 작품이라고 규명하였다. 그 결과 현시점에서 심훈 시의 전체 편수는 총 89편이라고 확정하여 제시하였다. 본고의 논의와 문제제기 내용들이 심훈 시 텍스트 비평에 대한 연구를 활성화할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This paper reviewed the aspects of Shim Hoon's revision of the poem and discussed the issues related to the confirmation of the ‘original’. In order to review the revision aspect, his collection of poems, The First Collection of Shim Hoon Poetry: 1919-1932, was focused on the existence of works that had already been published and the works that had been republished later on. As a result, Shim Hoon's poems, which can be confirmed whether the revision is made, were 43 poems. A total of 43 revisionary poems were discussed in three dimensions, revealing the characteristics of Shim Hoon's revisions. The first is that there are many poems with revised titles, the second is that they pursued the securing of rhythm and formal simplicity through bold deletion and revision of lines and stanzas, and the third is that they are almost 'new' through a complete revision.
Shim Hoon's review of the revised poems involves complexities related to the confirmation of the ‘original’. These issues are related to the works in the The First Collection of Shim Hoon Poetry, which were later revised when they were published again in the official media. In particular, this is the case in which the revision was made by inserting his poems into novels or essays that correspond to the poet's other writings. The works in this case are highly likely to have been adapted in the context and arrangement of the text. However, as a result of the review, it was confirmed that the poet's final revision was made in order to improve the completeness of the poem itself rather than the influence of the text. In addition, these works are actually works that are published for the first time on an official page, given that the The First Collection of Shim Hoon Poetry is an unpublished text. Therefore, based on this, I suggested that the Shim Hoon's final revised work should be used as the ‘original’.
Through the process of discussing the aspect of revision Shim Hoon's poem, this paper corrects the title error in the previous ‘collections’, which were considered the ‘original’ of Sim Hoon's poem, also revealed that each work that was considered to be a different work was a revision of one work. As a result, at the present time, the total number of poems of Shim Hoon was confirmed and presented as a total of 89. It is hoped that the issues raised in this paper will serve as an opportunity to revitalize research on text criticism of Shim Hoon Poetry.
