초록

본고는 시인 이영순이 전쟁 중에 낸 시집『연희고지(延禧高地)』와『지령(地靈)』실린 시들에 나타난 ‘숭고’를 중심으로 고찰해 보았다.
먼저 시집『연희고지(延禧高地)』에 실린 단편 자유시들에서 이영순 시인은 세상에서의 삶을 뜬구름 같이 여기며 조국을 위해 공산주의자들과 싸우다가 죽겠다고 다짐한다. 그리고 군인의 길을 팔자요 운명으로 여기며 전장에서 죽는 것은 삶의 한계를 넘어 영원한 생명으로 부활하려는 길임을 보여 준다. 장편 서사시「연희고지(延禧高地)」는 연희고지를 중심으로 벌어지는 서울 탈환작전의 체험을 형상화하고 있다. 치열한 전투 현장에서 죽음의 공포를 초월하여 조국의 자유를 되찾기 위해 싸우는 화자의 자세는 ‘숭고’를 느끼게 한다.
시집『지령(地靈)』에 실린 단편 자유시들은 옛 전쟁터에 가서 전투 상황과 전사한 이들을 회상하며 인간 존재의 나약함과 유한성에 슬픔을 느낀다. 그러나 죽음을 초월하여 조국의 명예와 자유 또는 정의의 이념을 실천하려는 이성의 노력은 그러한 불쾌의 감정으로부터 벗어나 쾌의 감정을 갖게 한다. 그리고 시인이 군인이 되어 전쟁터에 나가 죽음의 공포와 맞서 싸우려하는 자세는 ‘숭고의 이성’에서 비롯된 것이다.
장편 서사시『지령(地靈)』에서는 ‘하갈우리’ 전투의 체험을 시로써 형상화하고 있다. 이 시에서 이영순 시인은 전쟁에 대한 허무와 회의를 보여 주며 ‘사랑과 평화’라는 새로운 이념을 제시한다. 이러한 특징은 시집『연희고지(延禧高地)』에서 공산주의를 물리침으로써 민족의 생명을 지켜야 한다는 것과 차이를 보인다. 즉 시집『연희고지(延禧高地)』에서는 공산주의자들의 파괴적인 공격이 초월의 대상이라면 시집『지령(地靈)』에서는 동족 사이에 이념의 대결로 발발한 전쟁 자체가 초월의 대상이다.

This paper was designed to investigate 'the sublime' that appears in poems from the poetic works『Yeonhuigoji (延禧高地; Yeonhui Heights)』and『Jiryeong (地靈; Directives)』written by poetress Lee Young Soon during the Korean War.
In short free poems printed in the collection of poems『Yeonhuigoji (延禧高地; Yeonhui Heights)』, poetress Lee Young Soon vows to fight against communists for the country, considering that the life is but a transient dream and shows that to die on the battlefield is a way towards resurrection to eternal life beyond the limits of the life, accepting the fate of a soldier. The long epic poetry『Yeonhuigoji (延禧高地; Yeonhui Heights)』visualizes the experience of a military operation to recapture Seoul on the Yeonhui Heights. The narrator's attitudes to fight for the freedom of the country beyond the fear of death in the battlefield make us feel 'the sublime'.
In short free poems printed in the collection of poems『Jiryeong (地靈; Directives)』, she feels sorrow on the frailty and finitude of human existence, recollecting battle conditions and the war dead. However, the efforts of reason to practice the freedom and honor of the country or the philosophy of justice get us to have feelings of pleasure, away from such unpleasant feelings. Her attitudes to try to fight against the fear of death as a soldier in the battlefield result from the 'reason of ‘the sublime'.
The long epic poetry『Jiryeong (地靈; Directives)』visualizes the experience of ‘Hagaru-ri’ battle as a poem. In this poetry, the poetress Lee Young Soon shows nihility and scepticism on the war and presents the new ideas of ‘love and peace’. These features in this poetry has a differentiation from those of the collection of poems『Yeonhuigoji (延禧高地; Yeonhui Heights)』indicating that the life of the nation shall be kept by beating off the communist's attacks. That is, devastating attack from the communists is the subject of transcendence as for the poetry『Yeonhuigoji (延禧高地; Yeonhui Heights)』, whereas the fratricidal and ideological war itself that broke out is the transcendental subject in the poetry『Jiryeong (地靈; Directives)』.
