윤동주 시의 ‘부끄러움’과 ‘보편지향성’ －제도적 형식 앞에서의 시적(詩的) 윤리 (The 'Shame' and 'Universalism-Orientation' of Poems by Yoon, Dong-Ju －The Poetic Ethics in Front of the Institutional Form)

초록

윤동주 시에 나타나는 ‘부끄러움’과 ‘보편지향성’은 그가 현실과 직접적인 관계를 맺으면서 모색했던 시적 윤리의 구체적 결정(結晶)이다. 특히 그의 시에 나타나는 부끄러움은 기존에 반복적으로 활용되어온 ‘부끄러움–성찰’이라는 평면적인 구조로는 온전히 파악될 수 없다. 그의 시에 나타나는 부끄러움은 피해자가 동시대의 피해자들을 보며 느끼게 되는 감정이다. 가해자가 느껴야 할 부끄러움을 오히려 피해자가 고백하는 형국이기에 우리는 관습적으로 이해해온 윤동주 시의 부끄러움을 또 다른 관점에서 접근해볼 필요가 있다.
이러한 맥락에서 그의 시에서 부끄러움이 본격적으로 나타나는 시기가 정확히 전시체제로의 체제 개편이 이루어진 시기(1937년 중일전쟁 이후)와 일치한다는 점은 주목된다. 윤동주 시에 나타나는 부끄러움은 국가 권력에 의해 폭압적으로 파괴되는 생명(삶)의 반응적 감정이었다. 이는 단순히 스스로의 결점을 마주하는 개인적 성찰의 개념을 넘어, 파괴되는 생(生) 앞에서 피해자가 느끼는 존재론적 감정이었다. 그는 이러한 감정인 부끄러움을 통해 우리의 ‘삶-생명’이 언어적·형식적 제도에 의해 철저하게 분절되고 파괴되고 있음을 드러내고자 했다.
여기서 더 나아가 그는 대문자 제도의 질서와 국가적 형식을 무화시키고자 했다. 바로 그 언어적 대응이 그의 시에 나타나는 보편지향성이다. 윤동주는 끊임없이 생명을 시화(詩化)함으로써, 제도나 언어가 분절하고 해체할 수 없는 생명의 의미를 확보하려 했다. 즉 국가가 언어·합리·측량·기호·법 등의 언어적 제도를 통해 생명을 ‘표준화’ 할 때, 그는 질서와 가치를 무화시키는 생명의 ‘보편화’ 작업으로 체제의 질서에 대응했다. 이 과정에서 그의 시에는 감정이라는 비합리적인 영역의 능력이 적극적으로 활용되고, 생명을 향한 보편적 사랑이 나타난다. 이러한 맥락에서 윤동주 시에 나타나는 ‘부끄러움’과 ‘존재적 보편(생명)을 향한 지향성’은 강력한 국가적 폭력 앞에서 주체가 행할 수 있는 언어적·윤리적 대응이었다.

영어초록

The 'shame' and 'universalism-orientation' shown in the poems by Yoon, Dong-Ju are the concrete crystal of poetic ethics that he sought for in the direct relation with the reality. Especially, the shame shown in his poems cannot be fully understood in the flat structure of 'shame-introspection' that used to be repetitively used. The shame shown in his poems is the emotion felt by victims when seeing the victims of the same age. As the shame that should be felt by assailants is confessed by victims, it would be necessary to approach the shame in the poems by Yoon, Dong-Ju that used to be understood conventionally, in the different perspective.
Under this context, we should pay attention to the fact that the period when the shame was fully shown in his poems accurately accords with the period(after the Sino-Japanese War in 1937) of system reform to the war basis. The shame shown in the poems by Yoon, Dong-Ju was the reactive emotion of life(living) which was forcibly destroyed by the state power. Exceeding the concept of personal introspection simply facing one's own flaws, it was the ontological emotion felt by victims in front of the destroyed life. Through this emotion of shame, he aimed to reveal that our 'living-life' was thoroughly segmentalized and destroyed by the linguistic/formative system.
Furthermore, he aimed to eliminate the order of capital system and national form. The linguistic action is the universalism- orientation shown in his poems. By continuously treating life poetically, Yoon, Dong-Ju aimed to secure the meanings of life that could not be segmentalized or dismantled by system or language. In other words, when the state 'standardized' the life through the linguistic system such as language/rationality/ measurement/symbol/law, he responded to the order of system with the 'universalization' of life that could eliminate the order and value. In this process, his poems actively use the ability of irrational area such as emotion, and the universal love for life is shown. Under this context, the 'shame' and 'ontological universalism(life)-orientation' shown in the poems by Yoon, Dong-Ju were the linguistic/ethical action that could be performed by a subject in front of strong national violence.
