초록

신라인들은(특정 계층의 일부) 승생기(乘生氣)를 할 수 있는 곳을 잡고 활용할 수 있는 역량을 이미 갖추고 있었다. 천년 고도의 중심인 경주 월성은 양택지로서 지기가 결혈된 최고의 터로 확인된 것은 그 증좌 중의 하나이다. 아울러 당시 동궁과 월지유적내의 중심건물과, 신라최대, 최고의 사찰에 손색없는 황룡사 및 분황사는 문지, 탑, 금당지, 강당지등 중심 건물은 생기가 있는 곳에 맞추어 건물을 배치한 것으로 나타났다.
특히 경주 월성은 건물뿐만 아니라, 입구 즉 가장 중심이 되는 성문 세 곳은 모두 맥선을 따라 길을 내고 문을 내었다. 이는 지금도 지기를 인식할 수 있는 자들은 음택 소점과 함께 아래에서 소점지로 오르내리는 맥선을 따라 길을 내는 것과 일맥상통하는 것이다.
흔히 이러한 지기를 인식하고 널리 사용했던 시기는 통일신라 말경에 그 기원을 두기도 한다. 아마 지기는 이 시기에 비교적 널리 인식되고 정보를 알고 있는 층에서 이를 적극 적용할려는 의도가 있었을 가능성이 높다는 점은 여러 정황으로 인정된다.
그렇지만 특정한 계층이나 극히 일부 특정인들은 이러한 지기의 인식을 내려 물려받았음을 월성과 동궁과 월지, 황룡사지와 같은 유적을 통하여 알 수 있었다. 그 중심 건물지의 배치는 모두 지기가 결혈된 곳에 배치되고 있음은 놀라운 사실이다. 이는 이러한 지기가 한반도에서 적어도 신라 중기나 초기이전부터 전수되고, 활용되어 왔음을 증명하는 것이다.
필자는 지기를 8종으로 분류한다. 이들은 2종씩 반드시 음양의 짝을 이루어 결혈한다. 이 8종은 음양으로 나눈 것이므로 실제로는 4종이라고 볼 수 있다. 한 가지의 지기는 음양의 두 종류의 기운으로 이루고 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 지기의 존재가 정확하게 인식되고 널리 활용될 수 있다면 보다 밝고, 훌륭한 삶을 영위할 수 있게 될 것이다.

ABSTRACT

Early back in the Shilla Kingdom, the people (of special class) were able to find and utilize the location where vital energy of earth could be gained. One of such evidences would be that Wolseong, the center of one thousand-year old capital city of Gyeongju, turned out to be the best location in which positive earthen energy is joined together. Besides, it was also made clear that Donggung or the palace of the crown prince, central buildings in Wolji relics as well as main buildings of Hwangyong Temple and Bunhwang Temple, to be duly called as the best and oldest temples of the Shilla period, including the sites of gates, pagodas, golden hall and lecture hall are all arranged in the direction oriented toward the vital energy of earth.
It is particularly noteworthy that not only the buildings but also 3 castle gates, the main entrances, in Gyeongju Wolseong are all installed in the manner that they run and open along the favorable line, which has something to do with the way those who are able to sense the earthen energy often make a road along the favorable line that goes up and down upto the desired location with negative earthen energy.
The end of the Unified Shilla Kingdom is usually regarded to be the probable time when people began recognizing and utilizing the earthen energy. There are many highly presumptive evidences witnessing that the earthen energy was recognized relatively widely in that period and those who owned such information had strong intents to actively apply it.
From the relics of Wolseong, the palace of the crown prince and the site of Hwangyong Temple, however, we can surely confirm that the special class or certain exclusively limited people in that time must have inherited recognition of the earthen energy. It really is wonder to find that the main buildings are all centered around the spot where the earthen energy is joined together, giving a testimony to the fact that the earthen energy had been transmitted and utilized latest from the mid or early beginning of the Shilla Kingdom period across the Korean peninsular.
The author of this paper classifies the vital energy of earth in 8 kinds. They form a pair each with Yin and Yang, making a total of 4 pairs all together. In fact, one vital energy of earth is constituted by two kinds of energy, that is Yin and Yang. It would be possible for people to live a better life if the existence of earthen energy could be exactly recognized and widely applied.
