신석기시대 영남-서북큐슈 해안지역 교류에 관한 검토 - 어로구의 양상을 중심으로 - (A Study on the trade between Yeongnam and Northwestern Kyushu coastal regions: based on the aspect of fishing tools)

초록

영남-서북큐슈 해안지역의 교류는 대한해협을 중심으로 이루어져 왔으며, 해안지역이라는 특성상 어로민들 간의 교류로 이해된다. 따라서 본고에서는 동일한 해협 그리고 어로라는 공통적 생업을 공유하는 양안지역의 특징에 따라 어로구를 중심으로 교류에 관해 살펴보고자 한다.
영남-서북큐슈 해안지역 어로구의 종류는 작살류와 조침류로 대별된다. 작살은 재질에 따라 석제와 골제, 사용방 식에 따라 고정식과 분리식이 있으며 세부적으로 더 구분이 가능하다. 조침류는 결합식, 단식, 역T자형으로 나눌 수 있다. 이들 어로구들은 양안지역의 양상에 따라 상사성이 높은 어로구(타제작살류·회전식작살·역T자형조침), 상이 성이 높은 어로구(석거조합형작살·결합식조침), 조성이 다른 어로구(마제석창형작살·골제편기형작살·단식조침)로 분류된다. 각 어로구들을 볼 때 큰 틀에서는 양안지역이 유사하지만, 세부적으로는 다른 부분이 많다. 이는 두 지역에 서 도구에 관한 공통된 인식은 있으나, 도구자체의 직접적인 교환·교역 그리고 전파보다는 정보와 개념의 공유 속에 서 선택적으로 수용된 결과로 볼 수 있다.
영남-서북큐슈 해안지역 어로구의 시간적 양상은 3단계로 구분할 수 있다. 1기 단계에 영남지역은 기본적인 타제 석기 전통에 동해안지역의 영향으로 마제석기류 및 골제작살이 유행한다. 서북큐슈지역은 타제석기류의 어로구만 확 인되고 있어 마찬가지로 타제석기 전통이 강한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 2기 단계는 영남지역에 초기농경의 전파로 인해 생 업다양화가 나타나며, 작살류 및 조침류의 어로구가 동삼동과 욕지도 같은 특정유적에서만 확인된다. 또한 1기 단계 와 달리 마제석창형작살이 사라지게 되고, 기존의 타제석창형작살이 얇아지는 등 어로도구에서 일부 변화가 나타난 다. 서북큐슈지역은 1기 단계에 이어 타제석기류의 어로구가 지속적으로 사용된다. 그러나 어로구의 출토범위가 넓 어지며, 1기 단계에는 보이지 않던 석거조합형과 결합식조침, 그리고 영남지역에서는 아직 확실한 예가 없는 단식조침이 사용되기 시작한다. 3기 단계 영남지역은 집단이동성 증가, 취락해체, 도구간략화라는 한반도 남부전체 사회상 에 따라 어로의 양상도 상당히 쇠퇴한다. 하지만 서북큐슈지역은 영남지역과 반대로 어로구가 출토되는 유적의 범위 가 가장 넓으며, 전체 어로구의 수량도 극적인 증가를 나타낸다. 이와 더불어 이 시기에 석거조합형작살과 서북큐슈 형 결합식조침으로 대표되는 소위 ‘서북큐슈형 어로문화’가 완성된다.
영남-서북큐슈 해안지역은 1기 단계 양안지역이 모두 서로 활발한 교류관계를 보이며, 교류의 루트도 다원적인 것 으로 생각된다. 2기 단계에는 교류의 루트가 단선화되는 양상을 나타내며, 어로가 강화되는 동삼동 및 욕지도와 같은 특정지역을 중심으로 이루어진다. 3기 단계는 영남지역에서 큐슈로의 도항은 거의 일어나지 않으나 큐슈지역에서 영 남지역으로의 도항은 빈번히 일어 나게 된다. 이러한 양상들은 두 지역의 환경적 또는 문화적 상황, 그리고 주변지역 과의 관계 등이 다르기 때문에 나타나게 되는 것으로, 전체 문화의 변화상과 연동하는 것으로 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

The trade between Yeongnam and Northwestern Kyushu coastal regions (YNKR) had occurred around the Korea Straits and could be understood as an exchange between fishermen of the two regions in the nature of costal regions. In this study, I examine the trade based on fishing tools in accordance with the characteristics of the two regions sharing the common lifestyle and fisheries.
The kinds of fishing tools can be divided into harpoons and fish hooks. The harpoons can be divided into stone and bone types depending on raw materials, and stationary and separable types on using method, having subdivisions. The fish hooks can be divided into composite, singular, and opposite T-shaped types. These tools are categorized into three based on the aspect to the two regions: high similarity, high difference, and different composition. The fishing tools from the both regions are similar in broader perspective but they are also very different in details at the same time, as a result of selective acceptance of shared information within common concept as tools, rather than trade and exchange of actual tools.
The chronology of YNKR fishing tools has three phases. In the I phase, the Yeongnam region is dominated by ground stone artifacts and bone harpoons by influence of the East Sea region and tradition of common knapped stone artifacts. In terms of Northwestern Kyushu region, only knapped fishing tools has been found for the I phase, so it is assumed that the knapped stone artifacts tradition is popular in that region.
In the II phase, the diversification of subsistance is conspicuous related to propagation of the early agriculture in the Yeongnam region, and harpoons and hooks are only found from certain sites such as Dongsam-dong and Yokji-do. Unlike the Iphase, the ground stone spear shaped harpoons disappear, and knapped stone spear shaped harpoons become thinner. When it comes to the Northwestern Kyushu region, knapped stone fishing tools has been continuously used in broaden area. In addition, obsidian module harpoon, composite hook, and singular hook are started to be used. The III phase in Yeongnam region, the aspect of fisheries considerably declines according to the social aspect of south of Korean Peninsula such as increased mobility, demolition of villages, and simplification of tools. On the other hand, Northwestern Kyushu region has the largest range of sites as well as shows a dramatic increase in the number of fishing tools. In addition, so-called ‘Northwestern Kyushu fishing culture’ represented by the combination of obsidian module harpoon and composite fish hook is completed.
In summary, there is active trade between YNKR, and the routes are multilinear in the I phase. In the II phase, the route becomes unilinear, and it is centered around specific areas such as Dongsam-dong and Yokji-do, which strengthen fisheries. In the III phase, there are few voyages from Yeongnam to Kyushe, while the opposite route is busy. These aspects appear to be related to overall cultural transition, according to the environmental and cultural situation of the two regions, in addition to the relationship with adjacent regions.
