초록

최근 한국에서 논의되고 있는 지역사회 미술교육은 공교육에서 미술교육의 부실과 위축을 극복하고 실기와 기능 전수의 전통적 미술교육 개념을 넘어 미술교육의 확장을 가져올 수 있는 새로운 패러다임으로 간주된다. 국가차원에서 실행되고 있는 문화예술교육정책과 교육과정에서는 지역사회와 연계된 미술교육의 프로그램이 개발되고 학습자의 미술교과서에 교수 학습방법으로 제시되고 있으나, 실제 중학교 학생들에게 지역사회 미술교육에 대한 이해와 반응을 조사한 결과 그다지 동기부여가 되고 있지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 정황에 비추어 보아, 지역사회 미술교육을 국가적 차원에서 강조하는 차원에서 벗어나 학습자나 지역시민들이 모두 공감하고 참여할 수 있는 단계로의 전환이 필요하다고 본다. 이 연구에서는 지역사회 미술교육이 문화예술교육정책의 관점에서 어떻게 실행되고 있는지, 교육과정 속에서 나타나고 있는 현상들을 파악하고 분석한다. 또한 지역의 공공문화기반 시설 중의 하나인 박물관․미술관에서 지역사회와 연계된 프로그램들의 현황을 살펴보고 문제점을 진단하고자 한다.

영어초록

Community-based art education in Korea today is considered as a new art education paradigm in overcoming the earlier weakness of school art education which had been focused on studio-oriented and technique- oriented art education. Even though various governments through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Ministry of Education tried to assist community-based art education to develop a culture and art education policy and the national curriculum, middle school students have not any motivation and interest in visual art education for engaging in their own communities, based on data from survey research on students. Since most art classes related to communities were provided not as regular art classes but as after school activities, only a small percentage of students could participate in these art programs. Therefore, this study proposes that it is time to promote the current stage of community-based art education to a stage in which students and people in communities actively can participate. This study firstly examines the theoretical background of community-based art education and various art programs and cases in order to reconsider current community-based art education in Korea. The literature on John Dewey’s education theory is reconsidered focusing on students’ experiences, processes, and themes. Second, this study discusses how culture and art education policy activated a partnership between art education and communities. Third, this study investigates the current situation of teaching and learning methods of community-based art education which have appeared in art textbooks. Various teaching and learning methods of community-based art education are also analyzed in order to uncover problems with current art education related to communities. Finally, this study examines the programs of community-based art education in Korean museums which are one of many significant cultural and educational institutions. It is a key element that community based art education needs to have partnerships with various cultural organizations and human and educational resources in society.
