高句麗 城郭 築城術의 擴散에 대한 豫備的 檢討 (A Preliminary Review on the Diffusion of the military architecture of Goguryeo)

초록

본고에서는 최근 발굴된 중국내 고구려 성곽의 주요 유구를 바탕으로 고구려 축성술의 확산에 대한 예비적검토를 시도하였다. 다시 말해 성내 시설물인 다각형 건물지, 원형 석축 집수시설, 성벽 시설물인 성문 및 성벽 통과식 배수시설, 계단식 기단부 치성, 치성과 각루의 구분과 전개, 용도의 기원 문제 등을 살펴보았다. 여기에는 최근 보고문의 한계를 보완하고자 기존 발굴보고서가 간행된 국내성과 환도산성, 석대자산성 등을 비교 · 분석 자료로 활용하였다.
국내성과 환도산성은 고구려의 수도라는 위상에 걸맞게 명실상부한 “최고의 축성술”을 보여주고 있다. 그동안 막연히 “최고의 축성술”이라는 생각을 가져왔을 뿐 실제 어떠한 성곽의 입지와 환경, 현황과 구조, 시설물 등이 당대 최고의 기술력을 보여주는지 구체적으로 접근하지는 못한 것이 사실이다. 하지만 본 연구를 통해 고구려성곽의 성벽 축성술 만이 아니라, 계단식 기단부 치성, 돌출부를 짧게 내민 세장방형의 각루, 성문 및 성벽 통과식 배수시설, 문지 좌우편 적대 설치 등 국내성과 환도산성에서 가장 전형적인 원형 모델(prototype model)을 보이며 주변 지역의 성곽 건설에 기준이 되었다는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.
먼저 성내 시설물인 다각형 건물지는 집안 환도산성 궁전지의 倂置現狀이 용인 할미산성에서도 확인되고있다. 원형 석축 집수시설은 심양 석대자산성에서 부속 건물지와 담장시설 등이 가장 완벽한 상태로 발굴되었으며 청주 부모산성과 거제 폐왕성, 남해 대국산성도 원형 석축 집수시설이 확산되는 것으로 파악된다. 또한 국내성 서벽과 환도산성 남벽의 성문 및 성벽 통과식 배수시설은 대형 괴석(석재)을 개석으로 사용하며 출수구 상면도 동일하게 대형 석재를 덮고 있다. 이런 양상은 국내성은 물론 환도산성, 자안산성, 석대자산성등에서도 관찰되는 고구려 특유의 우수 방지 시설이었다고 하겠다. 계단식 기단부 치성은 국내성 동북벽 치성에서 보이고 심양 석대자산성에서 구조적인 완성을 이룬 후 도문 성자산산성으로 전개되는 것으로 여겨진다. 또 사직선 기단부 치성은 등탑 연주성을 정점으로 후대에 인천 계양산성 등에서 그 구조적인 유사성이 확인되고 있다. 문지 좌우의 적대 설치도 국내성 북벽 서문을 시작으로 환인 고검지산성 북문지, 심양 석대자산성 북문지와 서문지 등 다수의 사례가 보고 되었다. 한편 국내성 서남각루는 4면 벽체의 독특한 구조로 角樓 의 원형이 되었다고 추정되며 이후 금산 백령산성 북 치성과 하남 이성산성 동남회절부의 1 · 2차 치성 등에도영향을 준 것으로 여겨진다. 기존에 치성이라는 막연한 명칭보다는 각루로 지칭하는 것이 합리적이지 않을까한다.
이처럼 고구려 중앙의 국내성과 환도산성의 축성술이 이후 지방의 거점성 및 백제와 신라지역에도 확산되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 즉 4세기 국내성, 5세기 환도산성의 중앙 축성 양식이 지방 거점성을 건설하는데 원형 모델이 되었으며 이는 축성법이나 각종 시설물의 구조에 그대로 반영되는 현상으로 나타나고 있다. 물론백제나 신라지역에서도 유사한 양상들이 간취되고 있다. 추후 고구려 성곽의 발굴 자료가 증가한다면 보다정치한 확산 과정을 규명할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영어초록

This study used major remaining relic structures that have been excavated so far as basic materials to figure out central and local fortress construction methods, characteristics of structure and influential relationship and exchange among the three nations of Goguryeo, Bakeje and Shilla (“The Three Nations”). That is, building methods of fortress walls, pentagon-shape building sites in the fortress, stair-type pedestal part of a fortress with the convex-form of walls for defense (“Chiseong”), fortress gate, drainage structure passing through the fortress walls, circular water collection facility made of stones, differences and development between Chiseong and vigilance tower on the corner of a fortress (“Gakru”), and their origins of uses. To complement the limitations of the recent reports, this study also utilized the analysis materials regarding Wunu Fortress, Guknae Fortress, Wandou Fortress, and Shitaizi Fortress through comparison.
As located in a capital city of Goguryeo Kingdom, Guknae Fortress and Wandou Fortress showed “the best fortress construction techniques”, which deserve the worthy of the names. It was true that we could not access them specifically and how they demonstrated “the best fortress construction techniques” in terms of location and environment, current state and structure, and facilities of the fortress, though we assumed that they must have done so.
Through this study, it was confirmed that the most typical prototype models were found in Guknae Fortress and Wandou Fortress as well as the building techniuqe of fortress walls of Goguryeo’s fortresses, such as stair-type of pedestal part of a Chiseong, fine-square shaped Gakru with short protrution, drainage structure passing through the fortress walls and gates, defense pedestal (“Jeokdae”) installed on the gate tower. They became the standards for building fortresses around the neighbor regions.
That is, stair-type pedestal part of Chiseongs were found in the east and north walls of the fortress in Guknae Fortress, achieved structural completion in Shitaizi Fortress in Shenyang. They assumed to have been developed to Chenzishan Fortress in Tumen. As for the oblique-lined pedestal part of Chiseong, Yanzhou Fortress in Junfang demonstrated the most complete example and it had structural similarities with Gyeyang Fortress in Incheon of later times. As for the installation of Jeokdae at both left and right sides on the gate tower, many cases were reported, including the west gate of the north wall of Guknae Fortress, north gate site of Gaojiandi Fortress in Huanyin, north gate site and west gate site of Shitaizi Fortress in Shenyang. Southwest Gakru in Guknae Fortress has unique structure of 4-wall sides, which became the prototype of Gakru. It had influence on the north Chiseong of Baekryong Fortress in Geumsan, 1st and 2nd Chiseongs in the south-eastward diffracted part in the Yiseong Fortress in Hanam, etc. It is judged that Gakru is more reasonable term than Chiseong. The drainage facility passing through the west wall of Guknae Fortress and the gate of the south wall of Wandou Fortress used giant-sized stones as the roof stones. Also, giant stone was covered for the water collection facility in the same way. They were the unique rain leakage protection system of Goguryeo Kingdom and they were observed in Wandou Fortress, Zian Fortress, Shitaizi Fortress as well as in Guknae Fortress.
In this way, the fortress construction techniques in central regions such as Guknae Fortress and Wandou Fortress were reflected in the key fortresses in the local regions.
Guknae Fortress in the 4th century and Wandou Fortress in the 5th century became the prototype model for building a key fortress in local regions, which were reflected in building techniques and the structure of various facilities as they were. More detailed comparison and reviews are expected to be carried out in later times with increased materials.
