초록

So far, the numeral-quantitative nouns and numeral-unit-dependent
ones of ]eju dialect have been used because they have been closely
related to real life. For this reason, sorretirres it is necessary for us to
know them in order to survey our old reference books. But the study
of the numeral-quantitative nouns and numeral-unit-dependent ones of
Ieiu dialect have been little done. Therefore, the purpose of this study
is to survey the numeral-quantitative nouns and nwneral-unitdependent
ones of Ieju dialect that are being forgotten in the vocabulary
theory field and extend the number of the numeral-quantitative nouns
and numeral-unit-dependent ones of ]eju dialect.
To examine the numeral-quantitative nouns and numeral-unitdependent
ones of ]eju dialect, more than 15 old reference books are
surveyed and checked on the spot with the help of 5 reporters, And
more than 00 theses are used as a basic material. By doing this,
nurreral-quantitative nouns and numeral-unit-dependent ones are
intended to be viewed.
Norreral-quantitative nouns and numeral-unit-dependent ones of ]eju
dialect are worked out on their meaning and usage being classified into
'area, weight, quantity, number, time, etc.' category according to their
meaning and quality.
:\umeral nouns and nurreral-unit-dependent ones, nurreralquantitative
adverbs are not classified yet so well according to their
meaning and quality.
IvIETER law and POUND one have been used thanks to the enaction
of WEIGlITS and MEASURES. So the satisfactory numeral
-quantitative nouns and numeral-unit-dependent ones of Ieju dialect are
gradually disappearing. It is necessary for us to gather the
numeral-quantitative nouns and numeral-unit-dependent ones of jeju
dialect that are being forgotten as soon as possible by means of
surveying old reference books and on-the-spot research
Vocabulary rreaning number and quantity of things include long
period of linguistic habit with the unique way of life of our nation.
Hence, it is not right for us to try to use only Western words which
are needed for them because of pursuing scientialization,
industrialization, knowledgeablization, and infonnationalization on
account of much effect on Western way of thinking and life.
Most of all, vocabulary expressing munber and quantity of jeju
dialect are reflecting well the way of life of people in Ieiu island As a
result, it is necessary for us to make an effort to inquire and keep
well the essence of numeral-quantitative nouns and nurneralunit-
dependent ones system of Ieiu dialect.
