This thesis works on 186 lists of gifts which Yeon Jae Song Byeongseon(淵齋 宋秉璿) and his son, Ji Jae Song Cheolheon(止齋 宋哲憲), received, and focuses on the receivers and the givers, the form and sentence expression of gifts’ list, and their contents and receiving time of presents. The author is going to finish the thesis as summarizing the body.

1. Yeon Jae received 158 presents which are much more than Ji Jae's. Among 144 givers, there are 66 disciples, 6 relatives and 68 people who don’t know the relation. Yeon Jae had taken disciples from the age of 38 until he died for his country. The disciples lived from coast to coast, especially in Jeollanam-do.

2. Beside a letter, the list of gifts written on attached sheet was put in an envelope, and delivered to the receiver. Therefore, the important part of the gifts' list is the contents and quantity of gifts, and the word of ‘giving a present’. Sometimes, however, a form of the list of gifts was clearly stated at the end of letter, or through adding the word of ‘giving a present’ to other expressions the giver showed his own sincerity.

3. The frequency of receiving times of gifts was centered on the months which fell on Chuseok or Seol. The case of Yeon Jae, the frequency of receiving times increased after 60 years old. It is hard to find too expensive, or luxurious presents. Writing materials like paper, a writing brush, an ink-stick, etc., which were used by scholars and household goods like candles were used as gift items. Marine products were centered in articles of food, and especially an octopus, a codfish, green laver and a sciaenoid fish were favored mainly as gifts.

Gifts are selected on the relationship between the giver and the receiver, the financial state of the giver, and the preference and necessity of the receiver. Unless the gifts are bribes, they delivers a feeling of gratitudes to the receiver, which is pleasing to both parties. However, we are generally concerned about how appropriate levels of the gifts we present are. Assuming that the gifts' list the Yeon Jae family received is reasonable those days, modern people could find a significant solution in the very humbleness.
