초록

이 연구는 한국 장애인문학의 형성과 전개 과정에서 생산된 장애인문학 담론의 성격을 고찰하는 데 목적을 둔다. 장애인문학이 본격적으로 태동한 시기는 1980년대 후반이다. 이 시기 장애인문학의 등장을 가속화한 주요한 요인은 1980년대 활발하게 전개된 장애인 운동과 대중적 문학장에서 장애인문학의 흥행을 들 수 있다. 이러한 흐름 속에서 1990년 방귀희를 중심으로 한국장애인문인협회가 창립되고 1991년 장애인문학 전문 문예지 『솟대문학』가 창간됨으로써 장애인 문인들이 활동할 수 있는 기반이 구축되었다. 이를 통해 장애인문학은 본격적인 문학 장르로 부상하였으며, 문단 지형의 변동과 장애 인식의 전환을 촉구하는 문학 운동의 구심점이 되었다. 특히 『솟대문학』은 장애인문학의 개념과 역할, 의의, 전망을 비롯한 장애인문학 담론을 활발하게 생산하고 유통하는 매체로 기능하면서 장애인문학이 장애인의 현실과 사회적 부조리를 타개하는 정치성을 지녀야 함을 강조했다. 아울러 한국문학사의 전통 속에 장애인문학을 아로새기는 작업을 적극적으로 수행하면서 장애가 우리 사회의 구조적 문제를 반영하고 있음을 드러내고자 했다. 이러한 과정을 통해 장애인문학은 한국문학의 타자적 위치에서 탈피해 문학의 보편성과 역사성, 정치성을 획득할 수 있었다.

영어초록

This study aimed to examine the formation process of Korean literature for the disabled and the discourse on literature for the disabled that developed in that process. Literature for the disabled was born in earnest in the late 1980s. The major factors that accelerated the emergence of literature for the disabled during this period were, first, the flow of various movements for the disabled that were actively developed in Korean society in the 1980s. Second, the popularity of literature for people with disabilities in popular literature in the 1980s. Subsequently, in 1990, the Korean Association of Disabled Writers was founded with Bang Gwi-hee at the center, thereby establishing a force for disabled writers. In 1991, the publication of Sotdae Literature, a literary magazine specializing in literature for people with disabilities, secured the media basis for literature for people with disabilities. As a result, disabled literature has become a full-fledged literary genre and the focal point of a literary movement that calls for changes in the literary landscape and enhanced awareness of disabilities.
In particular, Sotdae Literature functions as a medium to actively produce and distribute discourses on literature for the disabled, including its concept, role, significance, and prospects. It also emphasized that literature for the disabled must have political practicality to overcome the reality and social injustice of the disabled. In addition, while actively carrying out the task of engraving literature on the disabled within the tradition of Korean literary history, we sought to reveal that the issue of disability in literature for the disabled is a reflection of structural problems in society, through which literature for the disabled can break away from the position of others in Korean literature and acquire universality and historicity.
