<손 없는 색시>의 문학치료적 가능성 탐색 (The use of the story of “Girl with no hands” in the literature therapy)

초록

본고는 <손 없는 색시> 11편을 대상으로 작품의 서사내용을 분석한 다음, <손 없는 색시>가 문학치료적 관점에서는 어떻게 해석될 수 있으며, 어떤 사람들에게 어떠한 문학치료적 효용을 줄 수 있을지 고찰해 보았다.
먼저 <손 없는 색시>의 서사내용은 7개의 단락으로 정리하였다. 1)전실 딸이 일정한 나이에 이르자, 계모는 전실 딸을 집에서 쫓아내려고 한다. 2) 전실 딸이 손이 잘린 채 집에서 쫓겨난다. 3)전실 딸이 나무에 올라가 과일을 먹다가 혹은 마당에 있는 콩을 먹다가 장차 남편 혹은 시아버지가 될 남성과 만난다. 4)전실 딸이 결혼을 한다. 5)남편의 출타 중 전실 딸이 아이와 함께 시댁에서 축출 혹은 시댁을 떠나게 된다. 6)전실 딸의 잘려진 손이 물과의 관련에 의해 재생된다. 7)전실 딸이 스스로 자식과 살아갈 방도를 구하고, 이후 아내와 자식을 찾아 나선 남편과 행복한 재결합을 이루게 된다.
다음으로 <손 없는 색시>의 서사내용을 문학치료적 관점으로 해석하였다. 전실 딸이 일정 나이에 이르렀다는 것은, 자녀서사영역에 머물러 있던 전실 딸이 남녀서사영역으로 이동할 수 있는 나이가 되었다는 것을 의미한다. 전실 딸이 어린 상태에서 계모가 영입된 경우 계모는 여성으로 성장한 전실 딸에게 아내의 자리를 빼앗길지 모른다는 심리적 불안감을 느끼게 되며, 전실 딸이 여성으로 성장한 상태에서 계모가 영입된 경우 남편과 전실 딸의 심리적으로 밀착된 관계는 계모에게 불안감과 질투심을 유발하게 된다. 계모는 불안의 근원인 전실 딸을 제거하려 하는데, 이 설화에서 ‘손의 절단’이란 전실 딸과 아버지 사이의 밀착되었던 심리적 관계가 단절되었음을 뜻한다. 아버지를 애정대상으로 삼아 남녀서사영역이나 부부서사영역으로 이동하려던 딸은 손이 절단되면서 능동적인 존재로의 전환이 좌절되고, 새로운 남성과 만나 결혼한 후에도 여전히 자녀서사영역에 머물러있다. 이후 계모의 계략으로 아이와 함께 시댁에서 축출되면서 전실 딸은 아이를 스스로 양육해야 될 상황에 처하게 되고, 물에 빠진 아이를 구하려고 손을 뻗는 순간 손은 재생된다. ‘손의 재생’은 전실 딸이 수동적인 태도에서 능동적인 태도로의 전환을 이루었다는 것이며, 전실 딸에게 자신의 애정을 온전히 쏟을 수 있는 새로운 애정대상이 마련되었음을 의미한다. 전실 딸은 자녀서사영역에서 부모서사영역으로 이동을 해 스스로의 힘으로 아이를 양육하고, 남편을 만나 행복한 가족상봉을 이루게 된다. 이제 두 사람의 결합은 전실 딸이 독립된 인격체이자 한 아이의 어머니로 거듭난 상태에서 능동적으로 이루어진다. 즉 부모서사영역을 거친 전실 딸이 부부서사영역으로 이동하여 남편과의 성공적인 부부관계를 이루면서, <손 없는 색시>는 마무리된다.
마지막으로 <손 없는 색시>가 문학치료적 효용을 줄 수 있는 대상은 전실 딸의 입장에 서 있는 사람들과 계모의 입장에 서 있는 사람들이며, 전실 딸의 입장에 서 있는 사람들에게 <손 없는 색시>는 아버지의 애정대상(상대)은 계모이며, 딸이 어머니의 자리를 대신하는 것은 불가능하다는 것을 이야기해줄 수 있다. 즉 전실 딸이 아버지와의 관계에서 위치해야 될 곳은 남녀서사영역이 아니라, 자녀서사영역임을 이야기해줄 수 있다. 또한 계모의 입장에 서 있는 사람들에게 그녀가 위치해야 될 곳은 남편의 애정대상이 딸이냐 나냐를 따지는 남녀서사영역이 아니라, 부모서사영역이라는 것을 이야기해줄 수 있다. 즉 계모에게 전실 딸이란 남편의 애정을 다투는 연적戀敵이 아니라 자신의 자식이라는 것을 강조해 줄 수 있다.

영어초록

This study analyzed the content of narration in the eleven folk-tales of “Girl with no hands”, and how this story could be used for the literature therapy.
First of all, the stories of “Girl with no hands” made up of seven different sequences such as 1) the step-mother tried to kick the step- daughter out of the house when she reached a certain age; 2) the step-daughter was kicked out of the house without her hands since her hands is cut off by her step mother; 3) when the step-daughter tried to pick a fruit and eat from the tree, she met the guy; 4) the step-daughter got married, 5) the step-daughter who was protected by her husband was purged from the house with her child by the family of her husband; 6) the step-daughter regained her hands because of the special event which was related with water; 7) the step-daughter found the way to make a living and then, she rejoined together with her husband and live happily ever after.
Second, the author analyzed how the story of “Girl with no hands” could be used from the perspective of literature therapy. The meaning of the step-daughter reaches a certain age of point could be viewed as the step-daughter was in the realm of son and daughter epic before, but she moved to the realm of man and woman epic now. The step-mother tried to server the relations between her step-daughter and her husband and the event of cutting her step-daughter’s hands in this story represented that the psychological attachment between daughter and father has been cut off. As a result, her love toward her father which is based on the realm of man and woman epic and realm of husband and wife epic failed to make her to be an independent person. Then, the step-daughter met a new guy and he became the role of her father. However, her husband was absent, she has a child and because of the problem with a letter, she was purged from the house with her child by the family of her husband. When she tried to drink water because she was thirsty, she let her child fall into water. She tried to rescue her child so she stretched out and regained her hands. This means that she moved to the realm of father and mother epic from the realm of son and daughter epic as she displayed the motherhood by saving her child. After that, the step-daughter rejoined with her husband who was looking for his wife and child and lived happily ever after. The step-daughter, who was in the stage of realm of father and mother epic, now moved to the realm of husband and wife epic and the story was ended with the successful husband and wife relationship.
The third, the story of “Girl with no hands” in the literature therapy could be applied for the people who are in the situation of the step-daughter or the people who are in the situation of step-mother. The person who was in the situation of the step-daughter meant the person who was still under the protection of her father, but soon she was ready for become an independent person. This person was in the realm of son and daughter epic instead of the realm of man and woman epic. For the person who was in the situation of the step-mother should realize that she was in the realm of father and mother epic instead of the realm of husband and wife epic where she tried to figure whether her husband liked her or her step-daughter more
