초록

본 연구는 19세기 후반에서 20세기 전반에 제작된 《소상팔경도》 가운데, 전근대 시기에는 보이지 않던 새로운 유형 《소상팔경화조영모도》를 중심으로 살펴본 것이다. 《소상팔경화조영모도》 는 산수화의 주제로 오래 사랑받아 온 소상팔경과 함께 화조, 영모, 어해, 고사인물, 까치호랑이등의 다양한 화목을 한 화면에 그린 작품이다. 理想景인 소상팔경과 장수, 부귀영화, 출세, 부부화합, 多男, 벽사진경 등 인간의 보편적 염원인 길상·벽사의 상징적 제재들을 혼용하여 시각화 하였다.
근대시기 《소상팔경화조영모도》는 소상팔경도의 전통형식에서 벗어난 독창적인 화면을 조형한 작품이다. 작가는 상상력을 동원하여 다양한 소재들을 혼용하고, 그들이 지닌 다양한 상징 의미를 한 화면에 중첩시켰다. 작품은 소상팔경이라는 이상적 공간 속에 수요자의 다양한 염원과욕구를 충족시키고 있다.
작품들은 화면 상단에 공통적으로 소상팔경을 화제로 적었다. 이를 통해 감상자가 이 작품이 ‘소상팔경도’라는 것을 바로 알 수 있도록 했다. 소상팔경은 중국에서 고려로 유입된 이래, 왕실과 문인사대부들에게 아름다운 경관이자 충렬을 상징하는 관념공간으로 인식되고 향유되었다. 그러나 조선후기 이후로는 소상팔경은 시조, 판소리, 가사, 잡가 등의 시가와 고전소설 등을통해 대중화되고, 서민층까지 향유할 수 있는 瀟湘文化로 확산되었다. 이들에게 소상팔경은 풍류를 즐길 수 있는 유흥공간이기도 하고, 소설의 주인공처럼 구원을 받을 수 있는 공간이기도 했다. 또한 누구에게는 꿈에서나 가 볼 수 있는 곳이었고, 죽어서라도 한번 가보고 싶은 곳이기도 했다.
이상에서 살펴본 근대기 《소상팔경화조영모도》는 장수, 부귀영화, 다산, 출세 등 인간의 세속적 염원을 시각화 한 그림으로 일종의 길상화이다. 또한 서민들에게는 결코 녹녹치 않았던 근대라는 시기를 극복하는 하나의 주술 장치인 벽사화이기도 했다.

This study focuses on a new type of Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers that was not visible during the pre-modern period among the “Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers” produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. “Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers” is a work depicting various harmony such as a painting of flowers and birds, feather, fishhae, ancient characters, and magpie tigers on one screen, along with the Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers, which has long been loved as the theme of landscape painting. The ideal landscape, the “Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers”, and the symbolic elements of good fortune and fortune, which are universal human wishes, such as longevity, wealth, success, marital harmony, fertility, and fortune telling, were visualized.
Modern period “Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers” is a work that forms a unique screen that deviates from the traditional form of "Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers". The artist used his imagination to mix various materials and superimposed their various symbolic meanings on one screen. The work satisfies the various desires and desires of consumers in the ideal space of Eight views of Xiao-Xiang Rivers.
