朝鮮 後期 <瑤池宴圖>의 成立과 流行 (Establishment and Prevalence of Yojiyeondo (瑤池宴圖) in the Late Joseon Period)

초록

본고에서는 성리학적 세계관이 지배하였던 조선 후기에 신선, 도교 사상을 기반으로 한 <瑤池宴圖>가 상하 모든 계층에서 폭넓게 애호되었던 사실에 주목하여 그것의 성립과 유행을 문화적 맥락과 시대적 상황의 관점에서 고찰해보았다. 본고에서는 우선 전제 논의로서 중국에 서의 西王母 관련 도상의 성립과 변천을 살펴보았다. 서왕모는 초기의 半人半獸적 怪神의 모습에서 漢代의 畵像石에 이르러서는 신선사상과 음양오행론에 의해 우주론적으로 합리화된 생명의 女仙 형상으로 변모 하였다. 다시 唐代에 이르러 서왕모는 가장 인기 있는 도교의 여선으 로 숭배되었는데 元, 明代에는 群仙과 결합하여 강력한 吉祥의 취지를 지닌 神仙圖인 <八仙過海圖>ㆍ<群仙慶壽蟠桃會> 등의 주인공으로 坐定 하였음을 확인할 수 있었다. 다음으로 조선 도교라는 문화적 맥락에서 서왕모에 대한 인식과 그로 인한 도상의 성립 과정을 살펴보았는데 논구의 결과 생명의 여신 서왕모에 대한 한국에서의 인식은 한대 신선사상의 영향을 받은 樂浪시대로부터 비롯되어 고구려, 신라, 고려시대까지 이르렀고 조선시대에는 후기에 민간도교가 흥기하고 문학, 예술상 學唐風의 유행으로 서왕모에 대한 관심과 신앙이 광범하게 유포되었다.
끝으로 조선 후기라는 시대적 상황의 관점에서 <요지연도>의 성행을 살펴보았는데 조선 후기에는 小中華 의식이 생기고 자주적 문화의식이 성장하면서 眞景山水의 畵風이 생겨나고 풍속화가 그려진다. 여기에서 불로장생, 부귀영화 등 본능적 욕망을 추구하는 신선, 도교사상이 유행 할 여지를 갖게 된다. 결국 교조적인 성리학이 쇠퇴하고 새로운 사조와 신앙운동들이 전개되는 가운데 도교의 吉祥畵인 <요지연도>가 지배계층과 민중 모두로부터 환영을 받으며 성립, 유행하게 된 것임을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

This study noted that Yojiyeondo based on Taoist immortals and Taoism thought was widely favored by all classes in the late Joseon period when the world view of Sung Confucianism was rampant, and examined its formation and fashion from the cultural context and the perspective of periodical situation.
This study examined the establishment and evolution of Xiwangmu related iconography in China as a preliminary discussion. Xiwangmu was transformed into the female immortal form of life rationalized by Taoist immortals and Yin‐ Yang and Five Elements theory in Han‐Dynasty Pictorial Stone Carvings from the early shape of half human‐half beast god. Again back at those days, Xiwangmu was worshiped as the female immortal of the Taoism which was most popular, and in Won‐Ming era, it was confirmed that it was the main character of eightimmortals crossing the sea painting, Gunseongyeongsubandohoe, paintings of Taoist Immortals with strong auspicious meaning which combines with Gunseon in Won‐Ming area. Next, this study investigated the recognition of Xiwangmu in the cultural context of Joseon Taoism and the process of the establishment of iconography in accordance, and in the results of thorough discussion, the perception in Korea about the goddess of life, Xiwangmu came from Nakrang era, influenced by Taoist immortals in Han era, to Koguryeo‐ Shilla‐Koryeo era, and in the late Joseon era, Taoism in folks was promoted, and interest and faith in Xiwangmu spread widely in the fashion of Hakdangpung in literature and art. Sinocentrism Lastly, this study explored the prevalence of Yojiyeondo in terms of the situation of late Joseon, and in late Joseon, as there was a little Sinocentrism and self‐conscious cultural consciousness grew, a style of actual‐view landscape was created and genre painting was painted. Here, there was space for popularity of Taoist immortals – Taoism ideology, which pursues instinctive desires such as perpetual youth and longevity wealth and prosperity. In the end, with the decline of the dogmatic Sung Confucianism, and the development of new foundations and faith movements, it can be seen that Taoism's auspicious painting, Yojiyeondo, was welcomed by both the ruling class and the folks and became popular.
