중일전쟁 시기 화중 점령지 대일합작 선전극단 연구― 원동극단을 중심으로 (A Study on Propaganda Theater Troupe Cooperating with Japan in the Occupied Areas of Huazhong China during the Sino-Japanese War: Focusing on Yuandong Theater Troupe)

초록

경성제국대학 부속도서관의 중국 백화체 문학도서 컬렉션에는 수기로 작성된 『원동극단극본집』이 소장되어 있다. 중일전쟁 시기 화중 점령지에서 활동한 원동극단의 극본집으로 9편의 극작이 수록된 극본집이다. 원동극단은 당시 화중 점령지의 維新政府와 大民會, 汪精衛 정부에 이르기까지 대일협력정권과 조직의 이데올로기를 전파하는 선전극단이었다. 지금까지 중문학계는 대일협력 문학작품에 주목하지 않았으며 관련 연구는 금기시되다시피 했다. 하지만 원동극단 같은 대일협력 선전극단 연구는 중일전쟁 시기 중국 역사와 문학의 전체상을 파악할 때 회피할 수 없는 하나의 고리이다. 이에 대한 연구는 당시 중국문학의 성취에 대한 연구와 함께 수행되어야 한다.
원동극단은 화중 점령지의 농촌 지역을 순회하며 반공과 신중국 건설의 당위성을 주로 선전하였다. 배우들은 중국인이었으나 부단장을 역임한 鄧英은 일본인이었다. 극단은 차를 타고 이동하다가 트럭의 짐칸을 무대로 조악한 단막극을 공연했다. 극중 인물과 플롯은 단순하고 단선적이었으며 오로지 이데올로기 선전이라는 목적을 수행할 뿐 예술적 완성도와 성취는 고려되지 않았다.
『원동극단극본집』은 또한 백화체 문학도서 컬렉션을 수집한 장본인 가라시마 다케시의 식민 말기 행적을 대변하는 유일한 컬렉션의 도서이기도 했다. 가라시마는 ‘反封建, 反軍閥, 反帝國’이라는 중국현대문학의 중요한 주제를 여실히 파악한 연구자였다. 하지만 다른 한편 조선의 백성을 전쟁에 동원하는 데 앞장선 제국대학의 교수이자 조선의 연극인들을 통제하기 위한 단체 조선연극문화협회의 회장이기도 했다. 그는 식민자의 지배 이데올로기를 전파하는 역할 역시 충실히 수행한 장본인이었던 것이다.

The collection of Chinese vernacular literary books in the library affiliated with Keijo Imperial University(京城帝國大學) contains a handwritten collection of Yuandong Theater plays(遠東劇團劇本集). This is a play collection of 9 plays by the Yuandong Theater Troupe that was active in the occupied territory of China during the Sino-Japanese War. Yuandong Theater Troupe was a propaganda troupe that spread the ideology of the Japan cooperation regime and organization all the way to the Weixin Government(維新政府), the Damin Council(大民會), and Wang Jingwei(汪精衛) government in the occupied territory of China at the time. Until now, Chinese literature research field has not paid attention to literary works related to Japan cooperation, and related research has been almost taboo. However, research on propaganda theaters that cooperated with Japan, such as the Yuandong Theater Troupe, is a link that cannot be avoided when understanding the overall picture of Chinese history and literature during the Sino-Japanese War. Research on this should be conducted along with research on the achievements of Chinese literature at that time.
Yuandong Theater Troupe toured rural areas in occupied China and mainly promoted anti-communism and the legitimacy of building a new China. The actors were Chinese, but Deng Ying(鄧英), who served as vice director, was Japanese. The troupe traveled by car and performed a crude one-act play on the stage of the truck's luggage compartment. The characters and plot in the play were simple and linear, and only served the purpose of ideological propaganda, and artistic perfection and achievement were not taken into consideration.
Yuandong Theater Troupe Scripts was also the only book in the collection that represented the activities of Karashima Takeshi(辛島驍), the person who collected The collection of Chinese vernacular literary books, in the late colonial period. Karashima was a researcher who clearly understood the important themes of modern Chinese literature, such as ‘anti-feudal(反封建), anti-warlord(反軍閥), anti-imperialism(反帝國)’. However, on the other hand, he was a professor at Imperial University who took the lead in mobilizing the people of Koreans for war, and was also the president of the Joseon Theater Culture Association(朝鮮演劇文化協會), an organization to control Joseon's theater artists. He was also the one who faithfully performed the role of spreading the colonizer's ruling ideology.
