    초록

    Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is in the process of promoting ‘Fine Coloring My School’ project, in which users directly participate in the design of the school color environment improvements. The Purpose of this study is to verify the value of the children’s participation design usability in the improvement of school environmental coloring by investigating and analyzing the children’s personal color preference that children apply to the school interior space and the satisfaction of space color environment in the participation design process. The research process can be divided into three stages. The first stage is a survey about the school interior space color environment satisfaction and school color design plan; the second is the education and participation design workshop for the children’s participation activities; the third is the construction color analysis through post occupied evaluation after use. The questionnaire was statistically analyzed using ANOVA and T-test, and Korea Standard Color Analysis (KSCA) was used for color analysis. The results are as follows. First, users of elementary school preferred the high-value and low-saturation colors such as mint and sky blue. Also the use frequency of B,Y color series was high in participation design activity through workshop; secondly, it is found the personal preferred color saturation is related to the space applying color preference and the satisfaction of the spatial color environment; thridly, after improving the color environment, the increase of color environment satisfaction level of women was significantly higher than that of men; finally, it was found that the higher user's satisfaction with request was, the higher was the satisfaction in the spatial color environment. The finding supports the claim that the color environment plan through participatory design is meaningful activity to improve user’s satisfaction. To create better spatial color environment and satisfaction level, education on space and color should precede and encourage active involvement of participatory design activities such as education and design workshops. Future studies on objective and clear measurements of active participation of users in participatory design are expected.
