<새털옷신랑>형 설화에 나타난 부부분리와 재결합의 의미 (A Study on Parting and Reunion of Couple in Folk Tale of Stories)

초록

This paper aims to reinterpret a deep meaning of folk tale of <SaetulosSinrang> stories and to examine the process of parting and reunion of couples. The study is basically different from existing research by seeking for meaning of folktale through conjugal relations. According to previous research in <SaetulosSinrang>, couples were separated because of external factors like a king in this folktale, and a women is a foresight exist and holy.
However, this study suggest that change in attitudes of spouses such as husband’s regression is also important because it leads to couple’s separation. Also, wife’s attitudes are changed by her situations. For example, in the beginning of marriage she appeared to be weak in aspects like appetite and temptation, and in the middle of marriage life she was represented as a wife, who complained about her husband’s regression. The man also showed various characters. Before marriage, he was very active and then became reserved and dependent on his wife. But he has grown up as much as he rescued her from a king.
This paper also discusses process of overcoming of couple’s crisis in this folk tale. Couples overcame their crisis by solving couples’s problems together. This folk tale emphasizes that if couples wanted to solve their problems, they should try to help each other while respecting spouse’s autonomy. Finally, this folk tale explains that the marriage involved not only sweet life, but also responsibility. Particularly, under equal condition and with mutual cooperation, they could make a good relationship and successful maintain a marital life.
