초록

이 논문은 노자영의 소설 <반항>을 중심으로 1920년대 대중적 글쓰기의 의미를 고찰하고자 한다. 노자영의 대중적 글쓰기는 근대적 학교 제도가 생기고 이로 인해 출현한 학생 계층을 주 대상으로 삼아 새로운 청년 세대의 감성과 문제의식을 공유하는 청춘의 대중적 현상을 촉진했다는 의미를 담고 있다.
<반항>은 영육일치 연애의 옹호와 연애 없는 결혼 생활의 무의미함, 그리고 이혼의 자유를 주요 서사로 삼고 있다. 영육일치의 연애 논리에 따르면, 정신적 이해가 없는 상태에서의 육체관계는 매음에 불과하며 두 남녀가 서로 영육이 일치하여 사랑할 때만이 정조를 지키는 것이 된다. <반항>은 이러한 새로운 정조관에 입각하여, 여성이 남성에게 당당하게 이혼을 요구하고 성적 자기 결정권을 주장한다. 즉 <반항>에서 남성 중심의 정조관을 비판하고 여성의 성적 자기결정권을 대변하는 것은 기존의 사회적 제도나 도덕, 가치관에 도전하여, 스스로를 근대적 주체로 만들어 가는 과정과 맞물린다. 이러한 사적인 자유의 토대위에 육체와 정신을 포괄하여 성적인 자유가 긍정된다. 이러한 과정을 소설은 미적 낭만성의 추구와 멜로드라마적 형식으로 구현하고 있다. 특히 여주인공이 구질서를 대변하는 남편을 죽이고 프랑스 남부에서 새로운 사랑의 터전을 잡는다는 결말 구조는 소망에 대한 낭만적 성취로 독자의 심리적 기대를 상상적으로 보상해 준다. 그런 점에서 <반항>은 서구적 근대를 낭만적 감수성으로 동경하는 감성과 감각의 지향을 아무런 제어 장치 없이 드러내는 ‘낭만적’ 계몽을 보여주며, 20년대 청춘기의 대중 독자층의 욕구와 교류하고 있다.
요컨대 <반항>에서 사랑은 여성의 성적 자기 결정권, 이혼의 자유를 표명함으로써 남성 중심적 성체제에 맞서는 가운데 근대적 주체의 자유상을 구축하는 매개체가 된다. 그러나 모든 것들이 심지어 자기가 믿고 있고 추구하는 것까지도 서로 모순되기 때문에 끊임없이 생동한다는 낭만적 아이러니Irony를 이해하고 수용하는 단계에까지는 이르지 못했다.

영어초록

This paper tries to study the popular writing and its meaning in 1920, centering of Noh, Ja Young’s novel, ‘Antagonism’. Noh, Ja – Young’s popularly writing refers to the meaning of having prompted the popular phenomenon of youth that shares the new youth emotion and the consciousness of problem an object of student class who appeared from the modern school system.
‘Antagonism’ has the spirit – flesh uniformity love and loveless marriage’s insignificance, and the divorcing freedom as its main description. According to the love principle of spirit – flesh uniformity, spiritual understanding – absent intercourse is nothing but prostitution, and only when both man and woman in a spirit – flesh uniformity loving each other, then is when they keep the chastity. ‘Antagonism’, based on this new chastity concept, fairly allows woman demand his husband the divorce, and claim to her own decisive power of sexuality. Namely, criticizing the man – centered chastity concept and speaking for woman’s own decisive power of sexuality in ‘Antagonism’ challenge the existing social system or ethic, sense of value, and go in gear with the process of making herself as the modern subjective. Based on such a private freedom, the sexual freedom, including the flesh and spirit, is affirmative. The novel embodies such a process as romantic searching and melodramatic form. Specially, the conclusive frame of a heroine murdering her husband, representing the old order, and taking her new loving place in the south of France, solves the leader’s psychological compensation in imagination as the romantic achievement. In that aspect, ‘Antagonism’ shows the ‘romantic’ enlightenment that displays the emotion longing for the occidental modernity as romantic sensibility, and the emotional tendency without any controlling installment, and interchanges the youth popular leading class’ desire in the twenties.
In resume, the love in ‘Antagonism’ becomes a mean constructing the modern subjective freedom against the man – centered sexual system, by demonstrating the modern subjective freedom. However, it could not reach to the comprehensive level of romantic irony,in that everything, including even what she believes and looks for, is inconsistent with each another, of which is persistently animated.
