번역과 문화의 상관성 -드라마 <奥様は魔女> 제목을 중심으로- (A Study of translation and culture : The Case of drama into Korean and Japanese titles)

초록

本論文は、米ドラマ<Bewitched>が日本では<奥様は魔女>というタイトルで、韓国では<anenun yosurzyangi(妻は魔術使い)>として翻訳された過程を考察したものである。結果、次のようなことが分かった。一つは、米ドラマ<Bewitched>が日本に放映される際に使用した<奥様は魔女>は、ドラマ全体の内容が把握できるタイトルを選ぶ、日本語話者の言語への考え方が内包されている。同時にドラマ <Bewitched> より以前に上映した同じ内容の <I MARRIED A WITCH> の日本語タイトルがほかでもない<奥様は魔女>で、これを <Bewitched> の翻訳に使用したのである。二つは、米ドラマ <Bewitched>を日本語に翻訳した<奥様は魔女>は、このドラマの影響を受け、「魔女」という単語の意味及びイメージの変化をもたらしている。その反面、米ドラマ <Bewitched> を韓国語タイトルに翻訳する際には「mabobe goelin(魔法にかかって)」ではなく、日本語<奥様は魔女>を持ってきたことが分かる。しかし否定的イメージの「魔女」はそのまま受け入れることなく、「魔法使い」という韓国語に置き換えられ <anenun yosurzyangi> として翻訳されたことが分かる。このように韓日両国は言語受容において明確な差異を表している。三つは、原作品『キッチン』に表現されている「奥様は魔女」は、翻訳本『kichin』では「buinun manyeo(奥様は魔女)」となっている。これは単純な言語置換にすぎない。なぜかというと翻訳者が日本の<奥様は魔女>はもちろん、韓国の <anenunyosuruzyangi> についての情報を知らなかったゆえに起った誤謬と考えられるからである。要するに、翻訳者は ‘原語文化’ ばかりではなく ‘翻訳語文化’ について分からなかったり、ある一方の文化について欠如していたりすれば、その翻訳は言葉の単純置き換えになってしまうといえよう。

영어초록

This paper is dealing with how to translate from the title of American soap drama <Bewitched> into Korean and Japanese titles. Whereas the Korean title is <My wife is a Magician>, Japanese one is <My wife is a Witch>. This paper is also looking out some mistakes in translating work of “Kitchen.” The results are followings: First, the reason why the translated into title <My wife is a Witch> in Japan, is related to the culture and language practices in which Japanese try to find out whole idea of drama from the title. Another reason is that the Japanese title <My wife is a Witch> originally comes from the American film <I Married a Witch>. Because both American film and drama had common contents and contexts, the Japanese translated titles were reflected the similarity between two; Second, the reason why the translated in title <My wife is a Magician> in Korea, has two reasons. One is that the translated came not from American title directly, but from Japanese title indirectly. Another is that the translated came from the intention to neutralize the negative aspect and word of “Witch” in the Korean culture; Third, in the translating work of “Kitchen” from Japanese in Korean, <My wife is a Witch> is translated in to <My wife is a Witch>. It should be translated into <My wife is a Magician>. This paper figures out that this kind of mistakes comes from neglecting know to two cultures, Korean and Japan. In other words, the good translating work should be count on both cultures simultaneously.
