현재의 나에게 ‘철학함’의 의미는 무엇인가 - 칸트와 모종삼의 철학을 생각하며 (What does it mean by ‘my dong philosophy at the present time'? : thinking through Mou Zongsan and Kant)

초록

The purpose of this paper is to present some problematics related to the questions of the universality of philosophy, of the nature of oriental philosophy, of the nature of dong philosophy etc. in order to answer to the question of what it does mean by ‘my doing philosophy at the present time.' My reflection on these problematics is made out of thinking through Mou Zongsan and Kant whose works I recently read, even though those problematics have been formed since I started studying philosophy more than two decades ago. The reason to choose them is because I think that they respectively established philosophy as a science and doing Oriental philosophy as a systematic theoretical inquiry as Western philosophy, and they, believing in the priority of practice over theory and in the concept of philosophy as a humanities, still suggested doing philosophy essentially as a theoretical job. Both Mou and Kant are committed to the historical view of philosophy as the outcome of doing philosophy. According to it, philosophy is just an universal ideal which can be realized only through unending efforts to answer to the concrete problematics we are faced with. This view of philosophy can be usually misunderstood as suggesting two extreme positions which say that ‘doing philosophy can be excercise only through practices rather than reading philosophy books’ or that ‘philosophy should be like a science rather than a humanities or vice versa.' Against these extreme claims, I conclude that my doing philosophy is nothing but reading philosophy books critically which includes both the concept of philosophy as a science and the concept of philosophy as a humanities. My concept of doing philosophy well matches with Kant' and Mou' doing philosophy.
