타로(Tarot) 메이저 아르카나와 음양(陰陽) ․ 삼원(三元)의 상관성 고찰 (A Study on Correlations of Tarot Major Arcana, Yin-Yang, and Tri-Origins)

초록

원형(原型, Archetypes)은 세부적인 면에서 개인 간에 차이가 날 수 있지만 시대와 문화, 유전, 지역 등을 초월하는 보편성을 갖고 있다는 점에 착안하여 타로(Tarot)의 대(大)비밀 카드인 메이저 아르카나(Major Arcana)의 상징 의미와 동아시아의 보편적 인식체계이자 우주자연관인 음양(陰陽)과 천지인(天地人)삼원(三元)과의 상관성에 관해 고찰해보았다.
인간이 만든 상징(象徵, Symbols) 중에는 언어로 완전히 담아낼 수는 없는 정신적 세계의 깊은내면적 힘을 드러내는 상징체계가 있는데, 그 중 하나로 타로가 꼽힌다. 본 논문에서 고찰한 메이저 아르카나의 상징 의미와 음양과 천지인삼원과의 상관성은 다음과 같이 대략 정리할 수 있다.
마법사(1)은 음양의 무한한 상호순환작용, 여성 대사제(2)는 태양신과 달신의 결합과 태모, 여성 황제(3)는 하나의 음과 하나의 양의 배합(一陰一陽之配合), 황제(4)는 양의 남성적 활력과생산력, 대사제(5)는 삼위일체로서 천지인삼원, 연인들(6)은 천지인삼원과 남녀 간의 완전한 결합, 전차(7)는 삼각형의 안정된 구도이자 음양의 균형, 힘(8)은 음양의 대대적(待對的) 의미, 은둔자(9)는 음양의 상보적(相補的) 의미와 상대성, 운명의 수레바퀴(10)는 음양인 4원소 힘의 통합, 정의(11)는 음양의 상보적 균형의 중요성, 매달린 사람(12)은 음양 간의 승화와 전환, 죽음(13) 은 한 번 음이 되고 한 번 양이 되는 도(一陰一陽之謂道), 절제(14)는 음양 간의 균형적 배합, 악마(15)는 대사제(5)와 대비되는 삼원, 탑(16)은 대승(大乘)의 돈오(頓悟)와 삼원 및 10천간과12지지, 별(17) ․ 달(18) ․ 태양(19)은 음양의 정수(精髓)와 정(精)·기(氣)·신(神) 관계, 심판(20) 은 음양의 순환성․ 영속성과 천지인삼원, 광대(0)는 카발라와 유불도의 우주론인 ‘아인소프―공․ 무극, 케텔―태극’과 상응, 세계(21)는 ‘태극(1) →음양(2) →사상(4) →팔괘(8) →만물’이라는 주역의 우주론적 세계관과 상응 등이다.

영어초록

Even though the archetypes could be different in detail depending on each individual, they have the universality transcending the time, culture, heredity, and region. Based on this idea, this study considered the correlations of symbolic meanings of Major Arcana as the great secret card of Tarot, and Yin-Yang, and tri-origins of heaven, earth, and man as the universal recognition system and view of the universe and nature in East Asia.
The symbols created by human beings include the symbol system revealing the internal power deep inside the psychological world that could not be fully expressed into language, and one of them is Tarot. The correlations of symbolic meanings of Major Arcana, Yin-Yang, and tri-origins of heaven, earth, and man could be briefly summarized as follows.
The Magician(1) is the infinite mutual circulation of Yin-Yang. The High Priestess(2) is the union of sun god and moon god, and pregnant woman. The Empress(3) is the mixture of an Yin and an Yang. The Emperor(4) is the masculine energy and productivity.
The Hierophant(5) is the tri-origins of heaven, earth, and man as the Trinity. The Lovers(6) are the complete combination between man and woman. The Chariot(7) is the stable structure of triangle, and the balance of Yin-Yang. Strength(8) is the inter-contradictory meaning of Yin-Yang. The Hermit(9) is the complementary meaning and relativity. Wheel of Fortune(10) is the integrated power of four elements as Yin-Yang. Justice(11) is the importance of complementary balance. The Hanged Man(12) is the sublimation and conversion between Yin and Yang. Death(13) is the truth in which it becomes Yin and Yang one time each. Temperance(14) is the balanced mix between Yin and Yang. The Devil(15) is the tri-origins contrasting to the archpriest(5).
The Tower(16) is the sudden enlightenment and tri-origins of maha-yana, ten calendar signs, and 12-year cycle. The Star(17) ․ Moon(18) ․ Sun(19) are the relations of the essence of Yin-Yang, body, mind, and spirit. Judgement(20) is the circulation and permanence of Yin-Yang, and tri-origins of heaven, earth, and man. The Fool(0) corresponds with ‘ain soph-nothing/chaos, Ketel-Taiji’ as a cosmology of Kabbalah, and Confucianism/Buddhism/Taoism. The World(21) corresponds with the cosmological world view of Zhouyi as ‘Taiji(1) → Yin-Yang(2) →thought(4) →eight trigrams for divination(8) →all things’.
