양주 대모산성의 조사성과와 변천양상 (Excavation results and it’s aspect of change of the Yangju Daemosanseong fortress)

초록

본 글의 목적은 양주 대모산성 발굴조사 성과를 검토하고, 발굴조사 결과와 더불어 사료 및 기 연구성과를 종합적으로 검토하여 시간의 흐름에 따른 양주 대모산성의 변천양상에 대해 초보적으로 추론해 보는 데 있다.
양주 대모산성의 시작은 신라의 한강유역 진출과정과 연동됨에 따라 먼저 사료를 기초하여 신라의 한강유역 진출 과정과 주치소 변화 양상을 살펴본 후 양주 대모산성의 현황 및 발굴조사 성과에 대해 검토하였다. 더불어 잔존하는 성곽 구조물과 발굴조사 자료가 통일신라시대에 집중되어 있지만 사료, 기 연구성과 등을 비교ㆍ검토하여 양주 대모산성의 시대별 변천양상을 대략적으로 살펴보았다.
사료의 검토를 통해 대모산성은 6세기 후반에서 7세기 초반 무렵부터 신라에 의해 축성과 운영된 것으로 보인다. 6세기 한강유역 진출, 7세기 통일전쟁과 나당전쟁, 8세기 이후 발해와 긴장관계 및 북방개척 과정에서 한강 이북지역은 신라에게 있어 전략적 요충지로 오랜 기간 동안 인식되었다. 따라서 신라는 양주분지 일대와 한강 이북지역을 확보하기 위한 군사적 기반을 구축하고자 대모산성을 축성한 것으로 판단된다.
발굴조사 성과를 검토한 결과, 현재 우리에게 보여지는 성곽 구조물의 대부분이 폐성 당시 모습으로 대모산성 내 초기 성곽의 원형을 규명하기에 한계가 있었다. 다만 11차 발굴조사에서 확인된 치성의 대지조성토 내 매납된 유개합을 근거로 2차 성벽과 2차 치성의 수축 시점을 가늠해 볼 수 있었다.

영어초록

The purpose of this article is to review the results of the excavation of the Yangju Daemosanseong fortress and to make a preliminary inference about the aspect of change of the Yangju Daemosanseong fortress over time by comprehensively reviewing the results of the excavation, historical materials, and previous research.
As the beginning of Daemosanseong Fortress in Yangju is linked to the process of Silla's entry into the Han River basin, we first examined the process of Silla's entry into the Han River basin and the changes in the governing office based on historical materials, and then reviewed the current status of Daemosanseong Fortress in Yangju and the results of excavations. In addition, although the remaining castle structures and excavation data are concentrated in the Unified Silla Period, the researchers compared and reviewed the historical sources and the results of previous research to outline the changes of Daemosanseong in Yangju over time.
Through the review of historical documents, it seems that Daemosanseong Fortress was built and operated by Silla from the late 6th to early 7th century. The area north of the Han River has long been recognised as a strategic point for Silla, with its entry into the Han River basin in the 6th century, the unifications war and the Na-Tang War in the 7th century, and the Balhae and tensions and northern expansion since the 8th century. Therefore, it is believed that Silla built Daemosanseong to establish a military base to secure the Yangju basin and the area north of the Han River.
A review of the excavation results reveals that most of the castle structures we see today are abandoned fortresses, which limits our ability to identify the original form of the early castle within Daemosanseong. However, based on the bowl with cover embedded in the site formation layer of the guard platforms identified in the 11th excavation, it was possible to determine the timing of the renovation and reconstruction of the secondary reinforced fortress walls and the contraction of the secondary guard platforms.
