초록

오늘, 우리에게 산수시조는 무엇인가? 산수시조를 통해서 우리가 시대 및 동시대 인간들과 시도하고 있는 대화는 무엇인가? 아니, 산수시조 속에는 그와 관련된 문제의식이 존재하는가? 존재한다면, 그것은 무엇인가?
산수시조는 인간과 자연과의 조화로운 삶을 노래하는 시조라고 할 수 있다. 그것은 작은 규모의 경제의 실천이다.
조선시대 산수시조는 산림경제의 소산이요, 임원경제의 소산이다. 즉 크게 보아 산수시조는 건축문화의 산물이요, 주거문화의 산물이다. 따라서 우리는 산수시조를 원림문화 또는 건축문화, 주거문화의 큰 틀 속에서 바라볼 필요가 있다.
조선시대 원림은 그 기저에 「소(小)의 미학」이 바탕하고 있다. 즉, 「작은 것이 아름답다」는 미학이 원림의 밑바탕에 깔려 있는 근본 이념이라고 할 수 있다.
요즘 우리는 작은 것으로부터 혁명을 꿈꾸는 시대에 살고 있다. 역사학계에서 이른바 미시사는 작은 것 혹은 일상적 현상으로부터 커다란 연관관계나 본질적인 구조를 발견하고자 한다. 미시세계를 통해 거시세계를 바꾸어 가려는 나노기술은 정보기술, 생명공학기술, 환경에너지기술 등의 핵심적인 기술로서 우리 삶의 여러 분야에 활용되고 있다. 이러한 미시사나 나노과학은 하나의 모래알에서 세계를 발견하거나 하나의 물방울로부터 대양을 보고자 한다.
그렇다면 우리는 산수시조에서 발견되는 이같은 「작은 것이 아름답다」는 미학을 통해 시조나 시학적 관심을 넘어서 이를 학제간의 열린 대화로 발전시켜 나갈 수 있지 않을까?
우리는 「작은 것이 아름답다」는 미적 원리를 매개로 하여 공학과 철학, 예술과 문학 사이의 학제간 소통을 시도하여 새로운 인문학적 담론을 생산할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. 건축은 미학을 매개로 하여 철학과 만나 그것이 보다 인문적으로 이해되어질 수 있는 가능성을 열고, 철학은 미학을 매개로 하여 공학 혹은 자연과학과 소통의 폭을 넓힐 수 있다. 그리고 문학과 예술은 미학을 매개로 건축과 소통함으로써 그것을 살아있는 지식으로 만들 수 있는 길을 발견할 수 있다.

What is Korean landscape verses to us today? What kind of conversation are we trying to make with other human beings in different or same periods through Korean landscape verses? Or, is there a related critical mind in Korean landscape verses? If so, what is that?
Korean landscape verses are verses singing harmonious life of human beings with nature. It can be considered as a realization of a small economy.
Korean landscape verses of Joseon Dynasty period are the products of forest economy and garden economy. In a wider view, Korean landscape verses are the outcome of architectural culture and residential culture. Therefore, we need to look at Korean landscape verses in a large frame of plantation culture or architectural culture and residential culture.
'The aesthetics of smallness' lies in the basis of Joseon plantation. In other words, 'small things are beautiful,' is the basic concept of the plantation.
We are living in a world dreaming of innovations of small things. In the academic world of history, the history of micros is trying to find enlarged relations or essential structures from small things or day's happenings. Nano technology, trying to change macro world with micro world, is the core technology is used in various fields of our lives including information technology, biotechnology and environmental energy technology. The micro history and the nano science is trying to find a world from one grain of sand or to see an ocean from one waterdrop.
Then, wouldn't it be possible that the aesthetics of 'small things are beautiful,' seen in Korean landscape verses can lead us to open discussions between different educational systems without being limited to poetic interests?
We expect the aesthetic principle of 'small things are beautiful' to create new literary discussions as a medium for trying the communications between different educational systems of engineering and philosophy and art and literature. The architecture may open the possibility of being understood literally by being incorporated in philosophy with a medium of aesthetics, and philosophy will widen the communication with engineering or earth science with a medium of aesthetics. Literature and art will find a way to make themselves alive knowledge by communicating with architecture with a medium of aesthetics.
